2024 Olympics - Day 8 (August 3)

Recommended Posts

I’ve watched all three Canadian men’s volleyball matches (and a couple of others), and 90% of the time it reminds me of what happened to our women’s volleyball team at VNL. No, I’m not going to stop talking about almost two months later…

No gold unfortunately, but I honestly don't remember two Canadians on a Summer podium.

For some-reason I thought we did it in trampoline once, but evidently not.

Only time I'm aware of is 1928 in the 100m for women thanks to Ethel Smith and Bobbie Rosenfeld of The Matchless Six

Canada should have had gold and bronze in 2012, but they gave the bronze to the Chinese girl who fell. It was stupid.

Cheryl Gibson and Becky Smith got silver and bronze in the 400 IM in Montreal 1976. I had to look up their names, but I remember seeing a double medal in Montreal.

At least we spoiled Serbia's chance to advance.

Serbia was out of the quarterfinals before the match even started, with Japan taking a set over US.

1.8 LOL.

I agree. There’s absolutely no way we’re winning over 28-29 (I believe that was his projection?), unless one or two of Warner/FAA medaled today and the women’s soccer advanced to the medal rounds.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
