:AUS Day 1 Preview

All in all, there is 4 gold medal chances for us on day 1 (3 in swimming 1 in cycling) and ambitiously I want us to win at least 3. It will be tough but very possible

Goal has been met!
Incredible first day for Australia!

Main disappointments were the diving choke and rugby sevens but grace brown delivered in the time trial, Titmus and woman’s 4x100 were class as always

Winnington solid silver, Short disappointing

Mens 4x100 relay is a great silver when there was no guarantee we would even medal. Im more happy about that time from Kyle. Chance for gold in 100free is on, also Titmus in the 800 considering that poor swim from katie

Outside of the medals, some solid team results such as Mens basketball with the massive win over the dangerous spain 92-80, Field hockey men begin with 1-0 win over argentina.

Day 2 :AUS Preview

After the crazy pace of the first day action, day 2 cools down a bit but the chances for medals still swiftly come in.

The 2 main gold and medal chances for Australia today come with Jess Fox in the K1 and Chloe Covell in the woman’s street skateboarding.
Jess will be the heavy favourite but will also be under pressure to deliver as flag bearer.

Chloe will be a chance but not the favourite.

Swimming is full of weak events for Australia today but woman’s 200free heats and semis will be intriguing. Even if there is no medal chances let’s hope for good Australian times

Main goal for today is for 1 gold, hopefully with Fox delivering, and I’ll be happy with a medal in skateboarding.

Day 2 Review

Main goal for today is for 1 gold, hopefully with Fox delivering, and I’ll be happy with a medal in skateboarding.

Whilst no medal in Skateboarding, the gold medal goal has been met once again with the incredible performance from Jess Fox, delivering in the K1

Swimming finals was quiet as expected but Giuliani was impressive and backed up a good heat swim to qualify into the 200m final 5th fastest.
Other swimming results were mixed, such as the diabolical performances of cooper and woodward.
Mollie and Titmus are primed for tomorrow in the 200

Qin finishing 7th in the 100breast means ZSC could have a chance in the 200, but we wait to see his form

Outside of swimming, some good team sport performances, such as the woman in the rugby who are looking strong with the 2 big wins.

Picklum out in round 2 in surfing which is a big disappointment, but Tyler Wright has looked good.

Chance for a medal in Equestrian Team Eventing is unfortunately gone as Mcnab had to pull out for the welfare of his horse, however Burton is currently sitting 3rd in the Individual rankings and is in the mix.

Overall a successful day 2

Australian Medal Count

Gold 4 Silver 2 Bronze 0

Day 3 Preview :AUS

Lots of action again on day 3 with the highlight of the day for Australia to come in the Woman’s 200M Free between Titmus and MOC. Let’s hope for massive times and an Australian 1 and 2.

Also in swimming today are the important heats of the men’s 800m free and Woman’s 100 back.

Along with the woman’s 200f final, 2 Bronze medal chances today with Ramsey in the 400IM and Chris Burton in the Equestrian Individual. Maybe also a small chance for Rousseau/Beddgood in the 10M synchro in diving

Final goal for today is 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. This is a very realistic outcome

    • One of my favorite songs from the early 2000s that I listened to on a cassette on my walkman
    • For me 20 medals will be good. And if more there are? Super. However, I prefer not to get my hopes up too much, so as not to be disappointed later.
    • If you're still taking suggestions, I tought the following:   Team Madison format.   17 teams of 2 "riders", randomly drawn. Teams can be named for famous "endurance" track cyclists. 4 intermediate "sprints", one after a voting block, in which the top 8 teams will score according to this formula: (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1). The order in which team score for a sprint are determined by the total number of "medals" won by both members of the team during the block. Ranking will be sorted according to the number of gold medals, then silver, then bronze. If there's two or more teams with same number of points, the medals of best individual performer of each team will be considered to break the tie. If the tie remains, then team's total points during the block will be used to break it. If the team fails to receive a single medal during each block, it will be considered to "lose lap" and 20 points will be substracted from their score. If the team fails to score at least 1 point during each block, it will be an automatic DNF for the team. If both members of the team get a medal from a single jury, it will be considered to "gain lap" and 20 points will be added to their score. A team can only win an additional lap per voting block. After the 4 intermediate, a "final" sprint will be recorded, in which points will be doubled (20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 & 2). Ranking for the final sprint will take into account the total medals won during the event.   What do you think?
    • I don't medal pick, per se... I assign probabilities/expected-values and total them up. So I don't have a gold medal estimate... but if you want one, divide those numbers by three and you'll be pretty close!   I imagine Norway, Italy and Netherlands and maybe Canada will probably skew a bit higher on golds, and US, Germany, and Sweden will skew a little lower... so maybe: Norway - 14 US - 11 Germany - 11 Italy - 11 Canada - 10 Austria - 8 Netherlands - 8 Japan - 7 Sweden - 6 France.- 6   I was surprised seeing Italy come in that high, I was figuring 22-23, but I guess they've been do well on the World Cups.
    • If you were to predict top- 10 for the number of gold medals, what would it look like?     For me, as an Italian, any result for Italy: +20 medals would be OK (if that will include 6-7 gold medals). The trauma of Turin 2006 is too great
    • Doesn't really help that two of the strongest countries in that particular sport are banned from the team event for well known reasons.
    • Just another reason why it's super dumb that the NOC max in freestyle skiing isn't 40.
