About This Club

Discussion about Australian Olympic Sport Welcome!
  1. What's new in this club
  2. It was fun having them in Chandler and ultimately trials is about qualifying, so slower pool isn’t a bad thing for those who qualified. The people it hurts is those who just missed the QT
  3. I was expecting Perez/Ebden to be selected in mixed doubles, as at Roland Garros a few weeks back they were ranked no1 seed but lost in the third round. Maybe they will be selected later on Storm hunters injury was unfortunate
  4. I wasnt aware of Storm Hunters injury oh,well, there goes my outside chance of a doubles medal
  5. Tennis Selection Men’s Singles Alex Di Minaur, Alexei Popyrin, Chris O’Connell, Rinky Hijikata Woman’s Singles Ajila Tomljanovic Men’s Doubles Matthew Ebden & John Perrs Alexei Popyrin & Alex Di Minaur Woman’s Doubles Ellen Perez & Daria Saville No mixed doubles it appears Cant really expect much in terms of medals as it’s clay which we are crap at
  6. That’s probably a just as good replacement, I just hope we go better than the solitary bronze in Tokyo, they are much better than that
  7. SOPAC is nearly 30 years old but its still a fantastic pool. it was designed based on those parameters from that article. Definitely wouldve been a better option than Chandler.
  8. I’m guessing they should’ve held the trials at SOPAC then? Which is newer Even the southport pool seemed to be faster but its outdoors so that wouldn’t suit trials, but those times in April were crazy considering no one was tapered
  9. Surfing Sally Fitzgibbons on standby for Tyler Wright https://www.nine.com.au/sport/olympics/paris-2024-surfing-tyler-wright-sally-fitzgibbons-ryan-callinan-20240627-p5jpe2.html
  10. Nice explanation here https://www.physioinqmcmahonspoint.com.au/blog/swimming-pool-technology-fast-pools-v-slow-pools#:~:text=First of all%2C a fast, resistance that slows swimmers down. Chandler Pool is an old pool that does have depth changes. its not ideal and shouldnt be used where every 100 of a second mattered in qualifying
  11. Is there an actual such thing as slow pools and fast pools? Like I know in the velodrome that’s a thing but in swimming? That would be interesting.
  12. There is part of me that believes we swam in a very slow pool (women’s 200 free was really the only event faster than expected, maybe Kaylee 2IM) and weren’t fully rested, so maybe we’ll improve heaps in Paris. There’s also part of me that thinks I might be delusional. Surely none of the sprint free boys would risk not being tapered in such a close field. However, that did kind of happen in Fukuoka so who knows. It would be so funny if all our swimmers who said “oh I’m really not happy with that time” and acted all sullen at trials all just went massive PBs in Paris. Like an orchestrated trolling.
  13. Most of the men at trials didn't seem rested enough. Temple only recently went 50 low and there is no reason he cannot replicate in Paris. The double taper with Trials/Worlds/Olympics has been in place since 2019 and it seems like it has worked in Australia's favour. Ive got no doubt that Australia will step up again in Paris! I just hope Europe and Asia do as well to keep the Americans at bay
  14. This is true but Temple looked terrible at trials, he’ll have a double with the 100 fly and Kaylee will have a double with the 2IM. Chinese team will be fully fresh. Would say outside chance of gold at best
  15. Our mixed medley team looks strong and on times, its very close to US Kaylee Sam Temple MOC If MOC is in touch when she jumps in,its game on.
  16. Haha I thought Fukuoka trials were decent but then USA had way better trials. But then it just all came together for us. Almost everything fell our way and I don’t think that’ll happen again
  17. I’m hoping for it but I’ll be shocked if Kaylee wins all 3. She is the solid favourite in the 200 back but the other 2 are toss ups at best
  18. And I think there is inevitably going to be a disappointing result for us, such as mcintosh surprising Titmus or no gold in the w100free. I guarantee at every Olympics in swimming there has been at least 1 massive disappointment for us, such as w4x200 relay in Tokyo. At least there is no way we could do as bad as rio or London, and thank god for that 😂😂
  19. I think with Kaylee it’s probably smart heading in to assume that she doesn't win least 1 of her backstroke events to smith, probably 100. If she just goes on to successfully defend both that would honestly be crazy as with Aus only a few swimmers have ever done that. At this games she could become our greatest ever swimmer if she wins all 3 events
  20. I love this but it also seems very optimistic. Dressel and Smith are the only events that aren’t heavy favourites that you’ve given gold to. M800 free, M100 back, M200 back, Men’s medley, W200 fly, W200 breast, W200 back, W200IM and mixed medley are all possibilities. I find it hard to believe they’ll convert 0 of those
  21. Based on my predictions for Swimming,Ive got the US at 8 Gold. W 100m Backstroke -Regan Smith. This is 50/50 and could well go to Kaylee.Ive only got Smith ahead as she just broke the WR M 100m Butterfly -Caeleb Dressel Dressel for the Gold, but this event is stacked with 5-6 guys around the same time. W 800m Butterfly -Gretchen Walsh This one is solid for the USA who could easily go 1-2 W 800m/1500m Freestyle Katie Ledecky -Nothing more to be said M 1500m Freestyle -Bobby Finke Without Hafanoui ,Finke is the favourite here M 4x 100m Freestyle USA will take down the WR here.Heavy favourites W 4 x 100m Medley Relay USA Women's have 3 of the WR holders in this (Smith,King and Walsh) USA Men's Breastroke is currently worse than Australia and they will likely struggle against the Chinese in the Medley Relay GB look too good for Mens 4 x 200m Free relay.
  22. Ah yes Dressel didn’t even qualify for 100 free what was I thinking 😂. But I did have him on my mind considering those 3 gold he won in Tokyo that I think the US will likely not defend. 100m free as you mentioned, 50m free which is assumed to be between McEvoy and proud, and then 100m butterfly, which will be his best chance but no guarantee with the likes of Grousset and milak then there’s also the 400im which Kalisz won in Tokyo but surely Marchand will be the strong favourite over foster. Also Finke wouldn’t be a lock in the 800 so that’s around 4 golds that I could see them not defending, whereas for us I’ve got 3 (w50), woman’s medley and Zsc but 2 very strong replacements in 4x200f and 200im. It really opens the door
  23. Swimming is the only discipline I’m well versed in so I’ll give my “contenders”. I’m being somewhat generous with these tbh. 24. Australia Medal Predictions plus outside medal contenders. I've taken into account recent performances including World Championships, Olympic trials etc. Its the Olympics and it will be a case of win some and lose some, but hopefully the average will end up around my estimation.
