  • 2 weeks later...

Hi @Prashanth, @Prakash, @Roamingrover86, @Fly_like_a_don, @nitinsanker, @tirtha22, @sounak , @Indian Sports fan I have compiled points table based on Top 8 performance in each event where 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7 pts, 3rd gets 5, 4th gets 2.5, 5th gets 2,6th gets 1.5, 7th gets 1 and 8th gets 0.5 pts.

There is also number of participants per country in each event listed which is named 'Quota'. Qualified but non-participation is not included in Quota. 'Top 8' is the number of events a country finished in Top 8. Thus Conversion = Top 8 / Quota which implies Contingent quality.

I have also introduced a term called 'Normalized Points' which is Points / (Number of events in that sport). For example, if a country wins just 1 Gold in Archery, they will get 10 points but 10 points/ 5 events = 2 Normalized Points. This metric will be high for countries who earn points in multiple sports.

I have divided Aquatics events as 'Swimming', 'Water Polo' and 'Diving' otherwise 'Sport' can be defined as set of events governed by same federation

Salient Observations for India
1) India is 26th ranked in quotas earned and but 30th in Points and 28th in Normalized Points which means its a par performance by the contingent

2) We are 5th best nation in Shooting

3) In Asia, India is 4th in terms of quotas behind ( :CHN , :JPN , :KOR ) and 6th in terms of points ( :CHN , :JPN , :KOR , :UZB , :IRI )

Please give your opinions and feedback on this
