Apologies, my lack of proof reading meant I said something I didn't intend. I meant to say that "that doesn't mean our athletes believe that their best chance of gold is the mixed relay".

I'm sure they believe that they can/should medal and I'm sure they believe that they have a decent chance of gold.

But MHS surely believes the same about his individual slot. The others maybe less so, but can they win without him? I'm not sure.

I guess I'm just not as convinced as you that them going all in on the mixed is statistically more likely. Prior to 2022, sure, I'd agree. But MHS is absolutely a serious gold medal contender. Arguably right now he's the favourite.

I certainly would not be classifying MHS as favourite as things stands so yes we do differ. I’m not confident he will deliver his best when it matters in the final. Just my gut feeling and his tendency to go too hard (a la 2023 world champs final) means I can’t have him to be fav. The men’s 400m this year is super open, so perhaps I’ll qualify my statement as I don’t think there is going to be a clear favourite come Paris.

I would LOVE to be wrong, I’ll be in the stadium shouting myself coarse for Matt or Charlie to take the title.

Out of curiousity, if you disagree with our top 4 being favs in the mixed relay, which squad do you have as beating us? If the US, what likely personnel does that involve?

The genuine disappointments/concerns are relatively few, albeit they are real and bad - KJT, Eilish, Men's relay, Jessie Knight, Maybe Jemma Reekie in terms of kick. I'm not sure 1, 2 and 4 are fixable, I'm sure 3 is, I'm sure 5 isn't, but not certain that matters.

1 and 2 are definitely fixable, albeit not guaranteed. Eilish clearly just needs more miles in her legs. Whether she can get it in time for Paris is very debateable but the problem is pretty easy. She was saying coming into Rome that she was surprised that she was ahead of schedule. She did 5k yesterday, which would on its own be 10th in Britain on time.

KJT is the same. You would hope that this was nothing more than an attempted cobweb blowing, so to speak. She realised that she wasn't at top form and if she did have a niggle, there's just no point in risking Paris even 1% for the Euros. Obv with the hept there is always the jeopardy of injury but certainly nothing to worry about right now.

Jemma's kick will be less important in the 800m unless both Keely and Mu are injured. Because one of them will be trying to grind the others down. The only time it would be a problem would be if everyone lets Moraa dictate the tempo. It probably still won't be enough for Jemma but I'm not sure there's much more she can do.

The relay is immediately fixable with something closer to a first team out - Azu and Hughes would be nailed on the first 2 legs. What the make up of the others is remains to be seen, but there's a perfectly likely possibility that none of the 4 in Rome will even be in the Paris squad.

Jessie just looks past her best. Hopefully she'll prove me wrong, but no disgrace if she is. It happens to us all sooner or later.

I mean, obviously some degree of guesswork, but let's take the 4th and 5th fastest US runners on SB right now.

For the women this year that's Aaliyah Butler (SB 49.79) and Isabella Whittaker (SB 50.17).

For the men, that's Christopher Bailey (SB 44.42) and Johnnie Blockburger (SB 44.51)

All 8 athletes (both ours and theirs) SB are also PB.

Our top 4 beats that team by about 0.15s on SB/PB.

The presence of Rai Benjamin and SML in the US list skews things slightly, as I strongly doubt either of them will be in the mixed.

But even still, that makes it the 3rd and 4th best US this year basically being the equal of our best. Their depth is terrifying.

I'm obviously oversimplifying because that doesn't take into account the fact that some people are better relay runners than others.

The US aside, a full strength Jamaican team on full PB form would beat us although that relies on them being on that form *and* choosing to do that mixed relay. I doubt they will. Bahamas the same.

GBR going with Harries - Ohoize - Davey - AHW in the 4x4, so fair to say they don't really care whether they medal here.

what a disappointment. So frustrating

Women's 4x100m is interesting - DAS - Henry - Hunt - Neita. Lots of change from the heats.

Asha Phillip was not very impressive in the heat so this is the right change. They should be winning gold here with a clean run

With a clean run, sure. But doing this has meant that all 4 legs are different from the heats (in terms of handoffs). Will be a good test of how well drilled they are to deal with that many changes.

I mean, they were fairly clear ahead of time that this was a development meet for the relays.

They have a chance, a good chance, to win a major title, with all individual events done and no one over worked, and they pass it up. Sorry, as a fan of GB athletics, its pretty pathetic to me to just mail it in with a much weaker team. Why is Charlie C being rested?! Alex has shown utterly no form over two individual races already at this champs, throwing him in the closing leg is going to do more harm than good

    • Additional Sports at Brisbane 2032   The final sports program for Brisbane 2032 can be reasonably expected in the first half of 2028, as occurred in 2024 when confirmation of the Los Angeles Olympics final sports program was announced.   Boxing While Boxing was “scheduled” from the next two summer Olympics, this sport is currently suspended from both LA2028 and Brisbane 2032 until a new governing body (World Boxing) can formally take over the management of the sport and run the competitions at the Games. At Paris 2024, the IOC itself ran the boxing competition as a one-off only. the previous boxing governing body (IBA) has been kicked out of the IOC family after an extended period of governance breaches. for LA2028, boxing may yet be added as a late includion. for Brisbane, I’m confident with the expected full approval by the IOC of World Boxing to govern the sport, Boxing will be re-instated at the Olympics and in 2032 is planned to take place at Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre.   T20 Cricket Cricket is a hot favourite to continue at Brisbane 2032 following it’s debut at LA2028.   77 countries play T20 Cricket world wide according to the latest ICC World Rankings.     Flag Football This sport is actually becoming very popular in Australia and also world wide.  There are 20 million players around the globe currently playing it.Flag    So, I think it has a better than even chance of being continued at Brisbane 2032.   Flag Football played in 100 countries, 20 million players world wide   Australia embracing the rise of Flag Football   Lacrosse This is another booming sport internationally.   Australia is ranked 4th in the world in both women’s and men’s Lacrosse. It’s another sport which has a good chance to continue at Brisbane 2032.   Lacrosse was played in the Olympics in 1904 and 1908. It was a also a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932 and 1948.    AFL Nines / Rugby League Nines Both AFL and Rugby League I believe will really struggle to win a spot at Brisbane 2032.   The days of “demonstration sports” is long gone from the Olympics and I can’t honestly see either making it on to the final Brisbane 2032 program.   Netball Fast5 With both women’s and men’s teams, I think that Netball Fast5 (women’s and men’s) has got a fair chance for inclusion in 2032.   Fast5 women’s world series competitions have been played since 2009 with men’s teams included since 2022.   Australian Men’s Team wins Netball Fast5 World Series and does viral dance   Incidentally, 50 countries currently play the regular Netball format with Australia ranked No. 1 in the world.   Baseball / Softball Both have been in and out of the Olympics over the years so much its hard to keep up.  They were recently dropped for Paris 2024 but included at LA2028.   It’s 50/50 if they will continue to Brisbane 2032.   Surfing and Sport Climbing Surfing and Sport Climbing will soon be formally added to Brisbane 2032 sports program with both having earned permanent sport status from LA2028 onwards.   3x3 Basketball 3x3 Basketball is already part of Brisbane’s sports program in 2032 and will be played at the Southbank Piazza.   Karate Following it’s debut at Tokyo 2020, Karate was dropped for the Paris 2024 and LA2028 and not looking good for Brisbane.   Breaking As we know, Breaking was dropped for LA2028 and I can’t see it being included at Brisbane 2032.   Permanent Status at Olympics   Once a sport is played at three consecutive Olympic Games, it becomes a permanent sport at the Olympic Games.   So from LA2028 onwards, the following sports will be permanent in future Olympic Games:   3x3 Basketball BMX Freestyle Skateboarding Sport Climbing Surfing
    • For that to happen, the IOC would first have to get agreement from international sporting federations, national olympic committtees and IOC members themselves to relax the current July/August Olympics hosting dates requirement and allow the Games to be held in the cooler months.     Many can be expected to oppose such a dates change as it be very disruptive to existing competitions.   When and if that such an IOC hosting rule change happens, it would certainly open the door from hot cpuntries like middle east nations such as  Saudi Arabia, Qatar or United Arab Emirates (Dubai) to host the Games say in cooler November-December.   We know that a Games in the oppressve July/August heat in the middle east would be impossible and deadly for athletes, officials and spectators.   So there’s a lot of hoops to jump through first before such a dates change can occur.  With Games in these New Norm days being awarded around 10 years or so ahead of the Games, that means there’s actually not a lot of time to get this through before 2026 comes around, which is the 10 year mark before a 2036 Summer Olympics.
