:GBR/:ENG bow out of the Nations Cup in the semi finals with a 2-0 loss to :GER.

The loss to Estonia yesterday ultimately cost them dearly so they ended up facing Germany in the semi-finals rather than the final. In an added galling twist, :SLO - who we defeated yesterday - will contest the final after they managed to overcome :EST.

Hate to say it, but don't think the Bello brothers will have a spot in the draw for Paris.

Fucks sake, this is something we didn't need. We've already missed out on qualifying in other sports we qualified in in Tokyo, we could've done with qualifying in a couple sports we didn't qualify for in Tokyo. Even this now doesn't even seem likely as we now need a minor miracle from the Bello brothers in the last 3 events to qualify in this. So disappointing as I have tickets for 2 men's beach volleyball games in Paris and would've liked to see the Bello brothers compete in front of the Eiffel Tower.

One of the many disappointments of the Paris qualifying window was the Bello brother's missing out on a spot in the beach volleyball. They'd been showing some good form and were increasingly able to hold their own with some of the best teams in the world.

Hopefully we'll see them in LA in '28 and the first step on that journey is this week's European championships where they are seeded 18th and have been drawn against:

:ESP Herrera / Gavira 15th Seed (World Ranking 17)

:ITA Marchetto / Windisch No.2 Seed (World Ranking 75)

:AUT Schnetzer / Kindl (World Ranking N/A - scratch pairing)

Looks like the top 3 in the group qualify for the knock out rounds.

Bello Brothers have completed their pool matches and have shown pretty form in their 3 matches.

Opening against :ESP Herrera / Gavira, they were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a 21-23 / 26-24 / 17-15 result. They bounced back today with wins over :ITA Marchetto / Windisch (21-10 / 21-12) and :AUT Schnetzer / Kindl (21-15 / 21-16)

They currently top the pool although :ITA v :ESP match is still to finish.

Herrera/Gavira  :ESP finished top of the pool, with the Bello Brothers second, meaning they progress to the knock out round.

The next match is against Rotar/Gauthier-Rat :FRA tomorrow.

Unfortunately, it came too late for Paris, but the Bello brothers won the Elite 16 event in Rio this weekend. I could be wrong, but I think that is there first tournament win at the Elite16 level and with it, they have broken into the world's top 20.

This should set them up to have a great start to 2025 gaining them direct entry to the Elite 16 level events without having to go through qualifying.

After a great end to 2024, I was hoping that the Bello brothers would be able to push on this year. The early indications were pretty positive.

In the first Elite16 event of the year in :MEX Quintana Roo in late March, they finished in 9th place, and that was followed by a 19th place finish at the event in :BRA Saquarema in April. This helped propel them into the top 10 in world rankings.

They haven't competed together since because Javier picked up a knee injury. Hopefully he will be back to full fitness to allow the pair to make an impact at the European Championships at the end of this month.

In Dusseldorf, the Bello brothers are the 6th seeds and have been drawn in Pool F against :NED Boermans / de Groot, :SUI Haussener / Friedli and :GER Ehlers / Wickler.

Assuming it follows the same pattern as previous years, they will need to finish in the top 3 of their group in order to progress. If they can top the group, they would advance directly to the round of 16. If they finish 2nd or 3rd in the group, they would go to the round of 24.

Bello Brothers lost in the Round of 16 at the European Championships.

The 6th Seeds came through their first pool match 21-19 / 21-19 against :GER Ehlers / Wickler before falling to a 21-15 / 21-14 defeat at the hands of :NED Boermans / de Groot.

In their Round of 24 knock-out match, they came through a tight match against :SUI Krattiger / Dillier 21-17 / 18-21 / 15-12.

In the Round of 16, their luck ran out emerging on the wrong side of a 21-17 / 17-21 / 15-13 result against :AUT Hammarberg / Berger.

A disappointing result but worth bearing in mind that this was the first time they had played together since March so not hugely surprising they weren't as match sharp as they would like.

    • That's so they can play in both venues in Canada.  Will mean that the UEFA Path A winner has to go from Toronto to Los Angeles and then up to Seattle.   Someone was bound to draw the short straw in that group since 4 of the matches are Central, but 2 are in Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, that's Algeria.
