Is it true that the American born Charlotte Booth may be included in the GB team for Paris?

I don’t think there is much expectation even if she chose GB that she would make the team … unless she has recently improved.

Well we could be missing 3 or 4 first choice team members for Paris.

There are injury concerns across 3 of the squad, as far as I'm aware. As it stands I don't think she makes it, but sure, she potentially could be in the mix with more injury disruptions and/or definitive improvements. She has previously been open to competing for either USA or GBR. And clearly she isn't going to make the USA team so more opportunities with GB if that's the way she goes.

Men's Horizontal Bar:

The horizontal bar is now the weak link in the GB team. The only potential good news is that all of our guys are capable of better scores than they posted this weekend.

Team Scenarios:

 

I think we can all agree that barring injury, Joe Fraser and Jake Jarman are a lock-in for the team. Behind them, I don't see the selectors not taking Max Whitlock.

 

That leaves us with 4 athletes - Harry Hepworth, James Hall, Courtney Tulloch and Giarni Regini-Moran - fighting for the last 2 spots. Given Regini-Moran's injury issues, I think he is possibly in the weakest position at the moment - it would have been great to see him in action this weekend but it didn't happen. Hopefuly he will be fit and able to take to the field for British Championships next month. Harry Hepworth is probably in the strongest position given his recent good form and the prospect of getting into multiple individual finals - although it is slightly worrying that he only competed on 2 pieces of apparatus this weekend. 

 

Based on the scores this weekend - and Hepworth's floor score from Cottbus last week - the team scores would look something like this:

 

With Tulloch in the squad - 

 

255.783 probably isn't going to be enough to get on to the medal podium in Paris - that horizontal bar score looks like a real problem.

 

With Hall in the squad - 

 

With Hall in the squad, the score drops back by a point - although we get a big gain on floor along with marginal gain on horizontal bar, we drop bag on rings, vault and P-Bars.

 

So at the moment, I would think Tulloch may get the nod over Hall - but there's still plenty of time for that to change.

Is there no chance Max competes on floor for the team given he is a former Olympic champion if Giarnni isn't selected? I've always wondered why since Rio his programme has been limited to the Pommel when he is such a talented gymnast. Giarnni will take a spot on floor obviously if he makes the squad. It looks like GB will have a very competitive chance on floor, vault, pommel and p-bars, with the issues of rings and horizontal bar. Rings is limited if you take Tulloch/Harry but you're right we don't seem to have any specialists on H-bar.

I think Max cut the floor to prolong his career and prevent injury - there is less impact going through the body in pommel and P-bars so less likelihood of injury.

Having analysed the men's results, it is time to do the same for the women. 

 

Individual All-Around:

1.) Ondine Achampong - 55.600

2.) Alice Kinsella - 54.100

3.) Amelie Morgan - 52.950

4.) Georgia-Mae Fenton - 52.250

5.) Abigail Martin - 51.650

 

Everyone else scored less than 50.000 which is worrying  from a team perspective.

 

I think we all know that Jessica Gadirova was the lead singer in the band, but with her injury, someone had the opportunity to step to take the lead and Achampong seems to be the one to do it. Her score of 55.600 is in the ball-park of podium territory - it is higher than Gadirova scored when she took bronze in the '22 World Champs and would have been good enough for 4th in Antwerp.

 

Alice Kinsella remains consistently around the low 54s but her score is basically driven by beam - when she's on her game, she can score >13 but equally, she can score <12. Today was an example of the latter and it's never a comfortable experience watching her perform on the apparatus.

Floor is obviously where the absence of Gadirova is most keenly felt but we still have a world class floor athlete in the squad. Kinsella's 13.900 would have been enough to get into the individual final at both of the last World Champs - and it would have been close to a medal in Antwerp.

 

From a team perspective, we need a 2nd athlete who can get close to 14 - Achampong's floor is pretty weak.
