:ITA needs to overtake al least one between :UKR and :USA in women's sabre. I don't think that one between :ALG and :MEX will finish 17th.

It is still highly possible that Ukraine or Italy enters top-4 instead of the USA. Thus the USA will take American quota. Both european teams look much more motivated since US quota is almost sealed.

no. #1 seed :ITA lost to :UKR in the round of 16 in the team world cup in :GER Heidenheim! :yikes:

it won't change much, but that's what you get when your best player is totally out of shape (and it's quite some time...it starts to be worrying) and your no.2 player (who's won a bronze medal the day before) is not even on the squad

right now we're set for the quarterfinals:

:UKR vs :SUI

:JPN vs :AUT :yikes: biggest surprise of the day, knocked out :VEN in the round of 32

:HUN vs :KAZ (key match, with both teams currently tied at the 4th place in the OQR)

:FRA vs :CZE (another surprising team, they knocked out :KOR in the round of 16)

*if :KAZ lose, :JPN need to earn a lot of points to close down the distance between them and keep the pace to steal the Asian OQP in the last event, as :KAZ are going to drop our of the top 4 of the OQR)

I think :ITA just does not have enough motivation.

But at the same time - it was the best performance of :UKR in thie men`s epee qualification period. We lost to  :SUI in the QF at the priority minute only and were ahead with 11 seconds to the end. So the team proved that it is not as weak as it was several months ago. Of course it is too late to fight for Olympic quota. But with the return of Svichkar we can find our way to strengthen our raking position.

:FRA won bronze

__________________________

after Today's results, :ITA:FRA:JPN:HUN:EGY:VEN  are mathematically qualified to Paris 2024

:KAZ might still earn the 4th spot (especially if :HUN lose the GMM later Today), but it's highly unlikely

however, they still have a 26 point-margin over :KOR for the Asian spot

:VEN have no more chances to make the top 4 of the OQR, but they're safe as the best Panamerican team

:SUI have a 8-point margin over :CZE and a 15-point margin over :ESP (:GER are also not mathematically out yet, but basically their chances are only theoretical) for the European spot, provided :HUN keep their place in the Top 4 at the end of the final OQT

I hope that's not the case

being the top seed in Paris would make a good difference

good news for :ITA also in the women and men's Foil World Cup in :EGY Cairo

among the men, the final act is an all-Italian affair between Tommaso Marini and Edoardo Luperi

among the women, instead, it's a replay of the last tournament, with Martina Favaretto facing the Olympic Champion, :USA Lee Kiefer

Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
