No, for the YOG the IBU doesn’t have that unfortunate rule. They way it works for the YOG is:

1. The top 10 nations in the 2018/2019 World Cup ranking get 4 boys quotas and 4 girls quotas

2. A combined ranking was made for the other nations. The best 20 nations on that ranking get 3 boys quotas and 3 girls quotas (so by your performance in the IBU Cup, you actually earned Brazil YOG quotas :p)

For the regular qualification that’s it.

Now, if quotas get a rejected it works like this:

The next nation in that combined ranking (31, then 32, then 33, and so on) get 1 spot for each gender (assuming that both genders still have openings).

As it is right now, I know 6 girls spots and 5 boys spots need to be reallocated. So 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 would get 1 boy and 1 girl, and 36 would get 1 girl.

However, the IBU didn’t publish that combined ranking, so I don’t have any clue what countries would get the spots.

Which is all a little weird...I mean, there's an IBU Junior Cup nowadays, they don't give quotas but the seniors in the World Cup do?

But Iam happy to know my results were enough to earn quotes. It's just a shame we can't use them.

That's a fair system. At least more athletes will have an opportunity. It's a shame the same doesn't work for the Olympics.

Thanks for the explanation! ☺️

Yeah, I’m hoping against hope that the IBU reverses that policy for Beijing 2022. I’d love to see :BIH:BRA:MGL:DEN:CRO:ESP at the Olympics again.

Sweden declining all five women's quotas for 2014 was a present from heaven for the smaller nations...too bad the reallocation was turned into something pretty useless last time :(

According to my federation, no changes of criterias are expected from IBU for 2022 yet. Only from FIS. I really hope FIS doesn't make it as hard as IBU does.

Into to something completely useless. I understand the reasoning for it, but having 20 countries in the relays instead of 15 didn’t really make a huge impact.

Yes, the IOC is giving the FIS less quotas this time. Athletes of your caliber should be completely fine unless they do something really dramatic. You will probably need to be the best Brazilian though.

:bones:

I heard something about the nation needing to work together (all athletes) to get a quote instead of each athlete trying for themselves. Also, not all races will count anymore, just some specific ones (which includes WC and both senior and under23 WCh). But, nothing confirmed yet so I still can't make my plans.

Well it’s safe to say that the majority of this forum is cheering for you . We can help interrupt the qualification documents and such. Just be careful with the information @heywoodu gives you, he has a reputation for telling countries they’ve qualified for the Olympics when they haven’t apparently (also, never travel with him to Tonga. He’s a dead man the moment he gets off the airplane there ??). I and many users are always looking for athletes to support, so should you need something, feel free to say something on the forum :yes
