so, the penultimate round of the Regular Season is over

and now we already know 11 of the 16 teams that will play the Knockout Stage

3 of the qualified teams come from both :FIN and :SWE, 2 from :GER and 1 each from :AUT:CZE:SUI

these teams are:

1. :SWE Växjö Lakers
2. :GER Adler Mannheim
3. :FIN Lukko Rauma
4. :FIN Ilves Tampere
5. :SWE Färjestad Karlstad
6. :SUI Genève-Servette
7. :GER Red Bull Munich
8. :CZE Dynamo Pardubice
9. :SWE Skellefteå AIK
10. :GER ERC Ingolstadt
11. :AUT HC Innsbruck

the 6th and last round is scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday and will decide the remaining 5 teams qualified to the Knockout Stage

Don't miss!

and the first stint of round #6 already revealed 4 of the 5 teams that locked their qualification place in the standings

the newly qualified teams are:

12. :CZE Vìtkovice Ridera Ostrava

13. :SUI EHC Biel-Bienne

14. :SUI Rapperswil-Jona Lakers

15. :FIN Pelicans Lahti

so, :FIN and :SUI have now bettered their contingent in the knockout stage to 3 teams and :CZE have increased their teams to 2, with a chance later Today to make it 3 out of 3

the last spot for the knockout stage, in fact, will be decided this evening between :CZE Oceláři Třinec (playing vs :DEN Aalborg), :GBR Belfast Giants (playing vs :CZE Pardubice) and :FIN Tappara Tampere

the Finns have already played their 6 games and can only wait for the Czechs and the Britons' results, if the Giants win and/or Třinec earn at least 1 point, they are out

Třinec are in with a win, no matter what the Giants do. If they lose in OT, they can still make it through in case the Giants don't win their match in regulation by at least a 4-goal margin

the Giants have to win their match in regulation by at least a 4-goal margin and hope that Třinec lose their match (the goal margin would be useless if the Czechs lose in regulation)

CHL PLAYOFFS

ROUND OF 16 MATCH-UPS SET

Following a hectic end to the 2023/24 Champions Hockey League Regular Season, we now have our eight Round of 16 match-ups and a Playoff tree showing each team's path to the CHL Final early next year

First off, the shock of Game Day 6 - reigning CHL and Finnish champions Tappara Tampere finished best of the rest and will not be playing anymore pan-European hockey this season.

Adler Mannheim were crowned Regular Season winners, posting 16 points from five regulation wins and one OT loss which means they will face 16th-ranked Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in November.

Second place went to the Växjö Lakers who end the Regular Season as the only unbeaten team, but miss out on top spot due to tie-breakers.

The reigning SHL champions will face 15th-ranked ERC Ingolstadt in the Round of 16.

Finnish side Lukko Rauma secured third place with 15 points in six games.

The six-time CHL qualifiers and 2021 Finnish champions will face 14th-ranked HC Innsbruck in the very first Playoff round.

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
