:NOR Thomas Aasen Markeng will likely not compete in Nizhny Tagil this week. The reason is he forgot to renew his passport. His passport expires in May. However, to obtain a legal visa to Russia, your passport must not expire 6 months from entering the country. The Norwegian federation had sent out a message to all jumpers about this, but Markeng had apparently forgot to check his passport. He thought his visa was legal like everybody else's. He says no one can be blamed except himself. He will try to obtain a temporary passport so he can compete in Sunday's qualification.

And of course Russian bureaucracy has a centuries-old reputation for helpfulness and willingness to bend the rules.

Well, our problem is that we are so nice everyone wants to stay here.

Not a problem Russia has, so I’m told.
