Wow we are similar. I am pursuing a degree in Mass Communications (Journalism focus) starting in the fall and would absolutely love working at LA28.

I am more interested in the broadcasting side but also do work with newspaper (online and print) reporting.

Awesome! Good luck! I'm two years into my degree (halfway done). I've had a blast so far. I've been able to cover some cool events like the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (sat front row). My tip: don't say no to anything. If any opportunity comes up, pounce on it. You never know what's going to happen.

You give the same exact advice I’d give to anyone else in communications, entertainment, or management.

We should have a Discord mixer at some point. I think that would be fun.

I was just discussing with my friends about trying to go to the Olympics in Paris since I'll be moving there for a bit this fall to study abroad. (probably still won't be there for Olympics though) but I was saying I honestly have very little desire to go to the olympics because I'd rather sit at home with 5 different screens so I can watch as many as events as possible (from the comfort of my own home) maybe I just don't like big crowds... but going to see 100m finals would be a dream.

Does anyone here plan on attending the LA 2028 games?

If time permits and I can get extended vacation time, I will be attending the LA games. I want to watch the track and field, swimming, soccer and badminton events.

That's a fair point. I think it's something I would love to do once or twice, but after that, I'll sit on the couch for 16 straight days and watch all the events, so I don't miss anything.

It's a long ways off, but I'd love to be there.  I've only been to 1 other Olympics (Salt Lake 2002) and that was to work, so it would be nice to be there strictly as a spectator.

Any guesses as to how much tickets will be? Also, any ideas on lodging? I think an Air BNB would be the best option, either near the Long Beach venues or near the shooting/equestrian venues.

  • 2 years later...

I've always been a fan of the Olympics, but it was only right before Paris that I started being turned on to the qualifications process.  (I caught the OQS for Sport Climbing.)  I'm looking forward to seeing who qualifies for LA28 and how.  Obviously we don't have to worry about quota positions because of the host nation spots, and I wonder if that will affect who attends other competitions in the off season.  I also realize that since we always have a large delegation, it is hard to keep track of all of our athletes!  (There's something to be said about being a smaller nation with fewer athletes, as it's possible to more closely follow each one!)  But I am looking forward to diving into new sports, seeing who our stellar athletes are, and seeing how they perform leading up to and into the games at LA28.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
