Do you think Spain will be able to qualify at least one fencer? We already missed London and Rio and it would be quite disappointing to miss the Olympics for 3rd time in a row, but European spots are really difficult to achieve without having a top team.

if all 4 top european teams qualify the whole package, then Carlos Llavador in men's Foil should be one of the individual qualifiers (at the moment, he and :GBR Kruse are surely the best fencers in our continent outside ITA, FRA, RUS and GER)...

then, there are a couple of big "if"...

Yulen Pereira has the chance to achieve the qualification in men's Epee, but here the contenders are so many and especially in this weapon it's everything so close that you can never be sure to end up on top of any tournament...

and finally, I wouldn't call the women's sabre specialists out before the end of the qualification race...if all the top European teams/fencers qualify earlier, then at the final tournament, one of them could grab an Olympic spot with a bit of luck...

at the same time, I don't see any chance for any team, even the men's epee (despite some good results in the recent past, there are too few places available and too many very good teams already ahead of them)...

here we go...first women's epee event of the year...and first Italian shameful disaster...:nopompom:

especially the 4 members of the team who are racing for the Olympic qualification...2 out in the preliminary stages, 2 out in the round of 64 of the main draw...:wall::spank:

p.s. and also my beloved reigning world champion Nathalie Moellhausen didn't do any better...she lost to an unknown Ukranian (Yuliya Svystil) also in the round of 64...

her Italian heritage probably did the damage...:facepalm:

I refuse to go on watching those bunch of *** of the Italian women's Epee team...:stop::redcard:

they are the real shame of our fencing!

I still have to realize how they could even get the results they got in the recent past, because those girls just can't fence...they are a disaster under any point of view, technical, tactical and mental...I'm so fu**in' disappointed with them (to say the least)...:wall::spank::thumbdown::hairpull:

no, they are playing for 5th-8th place (which combined with the other direct rivals' results might prove a disaster in any case, especially if Estonia finish ahead of us)...

but I watched the quarterfinal match against Poland and I got so angry because of how they lost (so badly) that I just wanted to express all of my disgust for that performance (and for the many underperforming results they are summin' up also in the individual events in the last 2 seasons)...

But come on, 'they just can't fence' for a team that's in the top-8 of the world I guess... :p

    • Hey guys, I contribute Skeleton articles for a new winter-sports focused website called "All things Snow".   I was wondering if any of you could please spare a few moments to read my latest article on the World Cup finale in Altenberg a few weeks ago.   Any feedback on length, content, or just general tips will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to implement them in my Olympic Skeleton recap pieces. Thanks!   https://allthingssnow.net/2026/01/19/pfeifer-and-wyatt-win-the-finale-meylemans-and-weston-seal-crystal-globes/

    • changes that go absolutely against the Italians (notoriously the top swimmers and not the best shooters in MP) 😭😭😭   now it's really time to axe MP from the Games 😈🥳
    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
