Unfortunately marathoner Jean-Baptiste Simukeka is no longer in the team. His entry has not been accepted the IAAF. The race where he achieved the standard was not in the list of qualifying races.

It has been a tough start for our Costa Rican athletes.

Andrey Amador seemed in bad shape and ended up as 54th in the men's road race. I had hoped for at least a top 30 finish.

Milagro Mena who got a place for the women's road race in the last moment was, as expected far from the front and abandoned the race.

In the swimming pool, the sole costa rican swimmer,  Marie Laura Meza participated in the women's 100m butterfly. Sadly she was rather far away from her national record, but her 37th place was afterall better than her 42nd from London.

The beach volley ladies also have had their first match against a strong Australian pair, who sadly won in 2 sets

Today it's judo time. Sadly Miguel Murillo is up against 2 times world champion, Shohei Uno from Japan.

The beach volley ladies will also play their second match, going up against the seeded dutch pair.
