  • Latest Posts around Totallympics

    • Watching the X games which is much bigger than any WC. The NZ Park and Pipe athletes in both Snowboard and Freestyle have made massive progress and have shaken the tree as such. We've found new sensations in Luca Harrington and Rocco Jamieson. Along with the imperious Zoi Sadowski Synnott who looked scary good and buried her competition when coming off a year long injury. Hopefully not too long till Nico Porteous is back. His understudies are holding their own in Fin Melville Ives and Luke Harrold in the Freeski HP. It's looking rather exciting when you know they have a full year to improve more and those athletes coming off long injuries.
    • We agree on the outcome. Now calling Loubineaud mid is a bit of a stretch, 12'44 and 6'07 tell he's definitely no slouch. But he won't be able to fight with Bergsma or Swings in a sprint.  He was on a downward trajectory in Bejing looking at his 5000 time, so judging his abilities on this mere race isn't really fair. I hope he'll try and change his tactics, which can only lead you so far, in next WC races. He needs to have a back-up plan (and use his teammate, Belloir or an other).
    • Honestly, I think Loubineaud is a mid-level skater, but so far he has been very lucky. In both victories he started in the very early laps and a breakaway of mediocre skaters arrived. Things you only see in the World Cup and never in competitions with major medals at stake. In the only serious mass start Loubineaud finished 14th, failing to keep up with the lead group in the last two laps.
    • 2nd  win of the season. No doubt the best year ever for French speed skating with a women's team building in the same time.    For Loubineaud these things will happen (like Contin) : 1. He'll draw attention to himself in French media. Which is good because at least there is a project. They don't talk about the sport at all, especially with no rink in France, which suffers from a "poor" image like "ah the Dutch sport, they win all the medals, they exist at Winter Games only because of it, too much medals distributed, it's unfair" (like we didn't boost our total thanks to biathlon and its inflated program). 2. With the Olympics around the corner those media will start to evoke a shot at a medal. 3. If he manages to be successful early in the Olympic season, the bubble will inflate.  4. He won't medal in Milan. The bubble will explode, people will laugh "ah ah all of this for that, typical French Lose mentality".   I hope he will. But World Cup and championships are two different beasts. No doubt the Italians will sort a plan out, the Dutch will have to cooperate and appoint a leader, Médard will work for Swings, etc. He won't have an easy way out and I fear he's got no chance if it ends in a massive sprint.

    • Yesterday Results:   Group III    VS  46-28, a well deserved win for  to continue their magical performance in this tournament, leading this group and qualifying to QF on top of the group to face  VS 25-26, another historical win for  , the game was very good and full of good action despite the fact that  already qualified before the game, the game was up in air till the last second when  left wing go for final shot but went wide.   VS  29-24, the home team   tried to end the tournament in good form after losing their chances to qualify (almost) since the preliminary group stage. the game was mainly for  from start till the end and they managed to finish 3 rd in Group III after 3 wins in the main round.  is very slow team and if the GK not in form they usually struggle in recent matches..     Group IV    VS  30-21,  tried to hold the last hope by beating  waiting either  or  not to win in order to qualify, of course their loss against  by 6 goals was a disaster for the nation who were heading the group till the previous game.  VS  24-31,  played another bad game ..actually very bad, started with the subs and score became 4 goal different to  even when the main team was on field we see  heading the game till almost the mid of second half when the experience played a main role to give  the win. side note: bad players with a good keeper would be a good team ..great players with bad keeper it's a bad team ..imagine if there is no keeper!!!!  VS  29-26, this game was a decider to whom will qualify as first and who will finish third between  and   (surprisingly 2nd was reserved for  before the game), the game start with very good performance from  who were heading by 4 goals till the end of first half when  managed to draw, till the mid of 2nd half the draw was there but last quarter of the match was for  who managed to qualify first in front of their home fans to face  in the quarter final.   QF matches:   28th of Jan    VS    VS     29th of Jan    VS  VS
