Theisen-Eaton had a bit of a slow start in the 100m hurdles, but made up for it in the high jump.  She's currently in 5th place with 2151 points.  She was in 5th with 2105 at the WC last year, so doing a bit better so far.  Unfortunately, so are her competitors.  113 points from 1st, 91 from the podium.  She'll need to pick it up.

Rosie will be doing a degree of difficulty less than the Chinese, so unlessthey mess up, Rosie will not win gold :(

As we saw in London, even when the Chinese do mess up they still get medals.

I'll admit I don't know much about gymnastics, but in my mind, if you fall, you fail.  Just seems like the favourites do high degree of difficulty, and even if they fall they still end up on top.  I remember Shewfelt in Athens on the vault.  The Romanian guy falls on his 2nd, yet still beats Kyle because his difficulty was higher.  Who cares?  He fell?  Why doesn't everyone just do the hardest routine and land on their head then?  Oh right, it's gymnastics and certain countries will always win.  Same with figure skating (which admittedly, Canada sometimes benefits from (cough cough Chan)).  And don't get me started on the farce that is synchronized swimming.   Sorry, even Phelps and Bolt lose races sometimes.  The same three countries finishing 1-2-3 for over a decade is ridiculous.

That seems like a small enough margin to be able to catch up in 5 events though.

I don't even watch synchronized swimming anymore.  The results are fixed in advance.

Oh absolutely.  Her best events are coming up, while (judging by results from the 2015 WC) they are weaker for many ahead of her, except Ennis-Hill who holds a similar lead over Theisen-Eaton as last year.  The main take-away is that she didn't look comfortable in the first event, but did better in her 2nd.  That's good news.

    • Kudos to you bud, I don't think anyone was happy with the performance by Canada all tournament, but we all stayed on until the end. Take as much time as you need.
    • As new sports I would add cyclocross with the condition it needs to be contested on snow. I would add ice climbing in speed and lead events. I would add freeride ski and snowboard. For new events I would add team sprint events in speed skating, women's Nordic combined, mixed team ski cross, mixed team parallel giant slalom, women's team ski jumping and add longer distance ski mountaineering events.    If there was room on the schedule I would also expand curling to 12 teams in each event.   In total I would add around 20 events for a total of 136 events. Cyclocross-3 Ice climbing-4 Freeride-4 Speed skating-2 Ski jumping-1 Nordic combined-2 Mixed team ski cross-1 Mixed team parallel giant slalom-1 Ski mountaineering-2
    • Hey everyone , now that the Olympics are over just wanted to make an announcement that I'll be taking a break from posting on Totallympics for the most part, and watching sports. Mentally these games have broke me in so many ways, and I need time to reset. Not sure for how long, at least a week, but I'll be back for the Paralympics.   I thought taking time to reflect over the past week and a half, it would make Grondin's silver feel better, it didn't at all. I still think about it all the time and it hurts. Just upset, frustrated, and disappointed that he was a photo finish away from gold... again, and I'd trade half of our medals for the colour to be changed.    Not to mention Canada only won 21 medals, 5-7-9, which is our lowest total since Salt Lake City 2002 with less events, but whatever I got used to it half a week ago...
    • Otherwise the tournament has been excellent in ice hockey, and overall too. 😊
    • Overtime being 3-on-3 is such a bad rule, especially in a final.
    • NBC had a lovely special after the ceremony...even highlighted some non-USA athletes.  Perhaps a few Americans will know Klaebo's name now!  There was even a segment highlighting the Italian medallists, that this was a record year for them, too.   (Best of Milan Cortina, on Peacock, if you can access it.)
