There are many sports to remove, all of circus disicplines.

Breaking, first of all. But also skateboarding, extreme canoeing, artistic swimming where standings are fixed, bmx freestyle, kiteboarding.

Absolutely, classic rugby instead of 7. Stop surrogating sports. And reintroducing some serius classes of sailing, like star or finn.

That's not humanly possible...

De_Gambassi why not? Eigth team, with ENG-SCO-WAL can be only GBR. Direct elimination, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. First round before open ceremony (like football and other sports). Only 3 matches in 20 days. Not a problem.

Not really. Marginally perhaps.

Basically, I believe in three things when it comes to the olympic program :

- The so called gender equity policy screwed it, switching more competitive events for lesser competitive ones.

- Practicability should not be the main reason why events are olympic or not. Sports/disciplines/events should first and foremost deserve their sport due to their competitive strengths

- As far as possible, the number of each sport medals should be correlate to its relative importance. That's why I believe swimming should drop many events or why I'm ok with mixed events in sports with only a couple of events (like triathlon pe).

Do you really want to see a 3 rounds tournament ?

Besides, you would need the Unions to sign for it. And really, that's not going to happen. Summer tours are very important for the economy of the southern rugby nations, they are not going to willingly cancel them.

You'll end up with a 3 rounds tournament filled with with C-team players or youngsters. Even if it was possible, that's a pass from me.

Also, World Rugby is very much into seven as a way to publicize rugby around the world.

Let it go.

Summer tour are more important than olympic games? C'mon, it's a joke... if you don't like a 3 rounds tournament, is possible ti made 2 groups, 4 teams each one. The first can play final, the second bronze medal game. Are 4 matches, in 20 days. Not so easy, but is possible. TUE (before games)-MON-SUN and SUN

While I like the formats you propose, De_Gambassi is unfortunately right. The rugby championship starts in early August and it's the main source of income for AUS/ARG/NZ/SA.

Also, players need some vacations. All our players are in Europe now, so if they can't rest in July they don't ever have a holiday.

And more important, World Rugby is just like FIFA, they want their World Cup to be the main event. Commercially it's the 2nd most succesful world championship event after the football one.
