busy week in the European Hockey...

after the first CHL stint, now it's time for the beginning of almost all the main European domestic leagues...

Finnish Liiga is underway since Tuesday, yesterday the Swiss NLA started.

Tonight it was time for the Czech Extraliga and the German DEL to open their campaign, meanwhile tomorrow it's time for the Slovak Extraliga and the Austrian ICE League (with 3 Italian teams).

Saturday the Swedish SHL will begin, too.

All this, waiting for the NHL to start their show.

I'm ready for the full immersion...

p.s. @hckošice I saw that the AMC channels replaced the KHL (gone for obvious reasons) with the Swiss NLA :yikes: :cheer:

I'm almost in tears (of joy, of course)... ;)

Yep tomorrow finally start the new :SVK season :cheer:

HC Košice for the Title :cheer:

... but it would be a miracle though... :p

I will be entirely satisfied with the semifinals at least, again

I saw that Sunday afternoon the big match between Kosice and Slovan is live on RTVS :Sport :d

will you attend in person or just watch it on tv?

Looks the hell must have frozen over :yikes:

NHL apparently refuse to field gimmick teams to the World Cup :p No more Team Europe or Team North-America (which as you know was a team of U23 North American players).

It looks the 2024 World Cup will consist of 10 National teams and with a pre-qualifying round before the main world cup round, with 8 nations making the WC. Slovakia will be apparently invited for the pre-quali round :cheer:  NHL will have a break during the whole tournament, the matches should be played in February 2024 in both N. America and Europe with medal games in Montreal

The match will be played in Bratislava so no :d

HC Košice (The Steel Arena owner, asked 2 000 000 EUR for the rent of the arena to the club, justifying it by the high electricity prices, the club obviously temporarily canceled the contract and moved to the small Handball arena for training) asked for special exemption and all rivals agreed, so Košice will play cca the first month all matches away and will hope by this time the situation with the rent will be corrected

it looks they want to make it a new World Baseball Classic, then (I mean, with teams based mainly on marketing interest of the NHL)...

this might lead to make Italy a powerhouse, having a team filled with all the NHL players with Italian heritage (who normally can't play with us because they've never been in our Country)...:yikes:

The :CZE Extraliga match between Karlovy Vary and Olomouc had to be postponed to another date after the Zamboni made a hole in the ice

    • My conclusion for this tournament:   Best team   Exceptional performance     Worst performance     Weak teams who did better than expected     unlucky teams
    • Cross-Country Skiing NOC Quota Standings as of February 2nd   These are the quotas that get allocated to NOCs after the basic quota (1 male + 1 female) is allocated to NOC's who have athletes that have the required amount of points. These standings are NOT the same as the World Cup Nations Cup. The Nations cup only gives points to the top 30 athletes in a race while the Olympic rankings give points to every athlete which partakes in a race and also includes World Championships and World Junior Championships results. I attempted to calculate the standings using this document as I don't believe the list has been made public yet.   4 quotas 3 quotas 2 quotas 1 quota   Men   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 13185 2 Sweden 9254 3 France 8930 4 Finland 7746 5 United States 7291 6 Italy 6442 7 Germany 6336 8 Switzerland 6145 9 Czechia 4144 10 Canada 4037 11 Austria 4035 12 Great Britain 3434 13 Slovenia 3164 14 Estonia 3007 15 Australia 2129 16 Japan 1587 17 Latvia 1568 18 Poland 1441 19 Kazakhstan 1246 20 Andorra 1170 21 Spain 1170 22 Ireland 1161 23 Hungary 812 24 Ukraine 712 25 China 621 26 Thailand 336 27  Armenia 276 28 Romania 266 29 Slovakia 217 30  Bulgaria 193 31 Mongolia 137 32 Serbia 131 33 Argentina 118 34 Korea 115 35 Croatia 97 36 Chile 80 37 Colombia 76 38 North Macedonia 47 39 Lithuania 47 40 Belgium 45 41  Liechtenstein 39   Women   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 12310 2 Sweden 10634 3 Finland 9539 4 Germany 9529 5 United States 8562 6 Switzerland 6329 7 France 5039 8 Italy 4680 9 Canada 4533 10 Czechia 4298 11 Austria 3636 12 Estonia 2190 13 Slovenia 1885 14 Kazakhstan 1677 15 Ukraine 1304 16 Australia 1203 17 Poland 588 18  Japan 510 19 Latvia 442 20 Chinese Taipei 194 21 Andorra 183 22 Armenia 131 23 Korea 122
    • That's good, and looking down on that page it seems like it will be available to watch on-demand as well. Which I think is arguably even more important for a streaming platform and which is why YouTube usually beats out every other way of live streaming
    • They did, and so did their Pairs figure skating team and speed skater.
    • A close match nonetheless!  gets their men's ice hockey campaign off to a successful start in Group B.
    • Uzbekistan may be able to get a medal in short track. I believe both of their athletes used to compete for Russia.
    • And competition has officially started.

    • I am overwhelmingly convinced that if Shinhama had been in a different pair, he would not have seen. The Japanese ran on the man in the final straight and was fantastic by winning the sprint,
