HAMILTON, ONT. (July 1, 2022) - The Canadian Senior Men’s National Team defeated the Dominican Republic 95-75 in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers in Hamilton, Ontario on Friday to move to a perfect 5-0 in the first round of qualifying.

The Canadians put together a dominant effort in front of a packed crowd at the First Ontario Centre as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 32 points in his Senior Men’s National Team debut. From the opening tip, where he scored the first points of the game on a dunk, to his final seconds on the floor, Gilgeous-Alexander was thrilled to represent Canada.

U17 Men’s National Team announced ahead of FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022

TORONTO, ONT. (July 1, 2022) – Canada Basketball announced Friday the U17 Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022.
 

The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 will be held July 2-10, 2022 at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena in Malaga, Spain and fans can catch all the action streaming live on FIBA YouTube.
 

Canada is in Group A and will face New Zealand (July 2, 7:15 AM ET), France (July 3, 9:45 AM ET) and Serbia (July 5, 9:45 AM ET) in the Group Phase.

Head coach Patrick Tatham is back to lead Canada once again and his U16 coaching staff from last summer remains intact as assistant coaches Jason Dawkins, Charles Hantoumakos and Tarry Upshaw also return.

All teams qualify for the Round of 16, where they will cross between Groups A and B and C and D (A1 v B4, A2 v B3, etc.). The winners of the Round of 16 games advance to the quarter-finals, while the losers move on to the classification games for places 9-16.

Prior to departing for Spain, Canada held a selection camp with 20 athletes at Humber College from June 19th-25th.
 

The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 will be the first U17 age-group event since 2018 when Canada finished fourth.  The FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020 was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

Canada is currently ranked 4th overall in the FIBA men’s age-group rankings, presented by Nike.

MALAGA, SPAIN (July 2, 2022) - The Canadian U17 Men’s National Team opened play at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 with a 94-46 victory over New Zealand in Spain on Saturday.

MALAGA, Spain (July 3, 2022) -- The Canadian U17 Men’s National Team dropped an 87-55 contest to France in Spain on Sunday. The loss drops Canada to 1-1 in group play at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022.

Canada improves to 6-0, remains only undefeated team in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers

SAINT THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (July 4, 2022) -- The Canadian Senior Men’s National Team defeated the U.S. Virgin Islands 113-67 on Monday to remain undefeated with a perfect 6-0 record in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kassius Robertson scored 24 points apiece to lead a balanced Canadian scoring effort that saw six players reach double figures.

Dwight Powell scored 15 points to go with six rebounds, while Kelly Olynyk added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, four steals and a blocked shot, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 11 points, five rebounds and seven assists.

 

With the win, Canada now holds a +198 point differential in group play. Both the point differential and the 6-0 record will carry over into round two where the Canadians will start atop the Group E table.

Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team is set to return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on August 25th as the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers begin.

Canada falls to Spain 87-63 in Round of 16 at FIBA U17 World Cup

 

MALAGA, SPAIN (July 6, 2022) -The Canadian U17 Men's National Team dropped an 87-63 decision to host team Spain at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022.

 

Playing in front of a packed gym full of Spanish fans cheering on their U17 team, it was a game of wild runs. While Canada scored the first 10 points of the game, Spain took control with a crushing 26-0 run spanning the first and second quarters.

Canada defeats Egypt to finish 9th at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022

ALHAURÍN DE LA TORRE, Spain -- The Canadian U17 Men’s National Team defeated Egypt 92-70 iin a seeding classification game at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 in Spain on Sunday.
