On one of the days that enters the history of Italian sport by right, horse riding wanted to make its contribution. In Warsaw, Italy won access to the next Nations Cup (on a path that is honestly very boring, but at least the streaming was free)

Yes, it turned out to be a pretty easy promotion for Italy. Austria was left two fences behind.

Now if things go wrong at the Eurpoeans next year, then Italy might have one last chance to grab Olympic quota at the 2023 Nations Cup Finals...

Welp, we have further withdrawals from the Finals. :EGY Egypt, :AUS Australia, :JPN Japan, :UZB Uzbekistan have all withdrawn. :RSA South Africa did not accept a reallocation, which has now been offered to :MAR Morocco (participation TBC).

So we are down to just 14-15 teams, 7-8 of which are eligible for the Olympic qualification (SUI, BEL, NOR, MEX, CAN, BRA, ARG and possibly MAR).

Entries are available here (provisional).  Kind of hilarious (but also really cool) that our own :CRO Sergio Neuppmann Junior is literally the only individual rider entered for the show. :p

Why are some nations listed as individuals but not all @dcro

For example :GER:GBR:IRL aren't but :NED:FRA:SUI do have individual after their name?

I'm not sure. Possibly it could mean they have declared for individual classes as well, but that's just a guess.

At any rate, the entries are still provisional with Morocco still missing (so far) and some riders not having their horse picks listed.

Updated entries

Still no Morocco. Surely they will not be taking part.

Looking at entries, the Olympic quota will likely be contested between :BEL :BRA :SUI. Canada is not here with their best team, whilst Mexico and Norway would need a miracle weekend. I can't see a possible pathway for Argentina here.

Shame we couldn't send our best team, even if our chances were relatively low to qualify. I guess we are going all-in with the Pan American Games and 2023 Nations Cup Final.

Well, things are looking pretty grim for Brazil with already 12 penalties on the account. Top 8 will advance to the final on Sunday.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
