Such is figure skating.

Word was she'd be skating for another country after last years Grand Prix and the Mimar split

Speaking of the Grand Prix, rough showings for the Canadians at the final

Gilles/Poirier fell in the RD and was sitting in 6th (last), had the 2nd best FD and moved up one spot... Lajoie/Lagha finished in 4th.

Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps withdrew due to injury... word is they've expected to do some major retooling of programs heading into the winter

Brooke McIntosh and Marco Adrion split. I’m not sure whether she’s still representing Spain or not given she doesn’t have very many options partner wise, but my guess is yes.

As for some even newer news, Laurence Fournier Beaudry has teamed up with Guillaume Cizeron… and she’s gonna be representing France from now on :yikes::yikes::facepalm:

One athlete switching countries I can understand, but two? Skating Canada has gone to shit… (even though with Fournier Beaudry I can understand, with all that’s going on with Soerensen)

Skaters country hopping isn’t unusual when they need a partner, especially when they’re younger and/or low ranked.

LFB formerly skated for Denmark. Our top current teams are both half American (Gilles and Stellato)… our team of Lauriault/La Gac used to skate for France… Lilah Fear of Fear/Gibson is Canadian… Allison Reed is American but seems to skate for a new country every other year… and its impossible to even keep up with all the former Russians floating around

Edit: Only 2 of the top 9 ID teams last year were both from the same country … and at least half or more of the pairs teams are the same. It’s just the reality of the disciplines

Yea skaters switching countries isn't really an unusual thing. A lot of this happens when they're trying better to go for international competitions.

Either way I do feel Skate Canada needs some sort of change in leadership because whatever Mike Slipchuk or whoever is running this org is doing is not working. It's just been the same thing behind the scenes for the past few years.

Definitely. Development has been a  disaster on the singles side.

Skipchuk really rode a wave that wasn’t his making, getting the job just as Chan and Virtue/Moir were about to break out and as the Feds were pouring in money.
