Fencing EFC European Championships 2018

But great match for Volpi at the end.

Finally good result for Italy. But I expected more from them in this final. Italy had much much better fencers. Not good sign before WC.

wow! great win for our foil girls...

it was time for a bit of satisfaction...

I must admit that I didn't expect them to win and especially I didn't expect Volpi to deliver like she did...:hatoff:

and to be honest, I didn't expect also the epee boys to get a medal, especially after the really painful loss to the Russians in the semifinal bout...Russians who proved themselves on fire...and don't tell me that anybody saw the team epee Gold medal coming to the "Sbornaja"...

so, now we're safe and we won't end these champs with a shameful 0 in the Gold medal column...let's see if tomorrow we can improve in the last day...

in the women's team epee we're already at the quarterfinal stage...

here are the quarters:

RUS vs UKR and GER vs POL in the top half of the draw, FRA vs ITA and ROU vs EST in the bottom half of the draw...

meanwhile the men's team sabre is yet to start (@ noon CET)...but we have the top 4 seeded teams already qualified to the quarterfinals, ITA (no.1) and GER (no.4) in the top half of the draw, HUN (no.2) and Russia (no.3) in the bottom half of the draw...

women's epee confirms itself as the weakest weapon for Italy, with our girls just not good enough even to make the semifinals...:facepalm::wall::thumbdown::spank:

meanwhile, in the men's team sabre we're at the quarterfinals: ITA vs GEO and FRA vs GER in the top half of the draw, RUS vs ROU and UKR vs HUN in the bottom half of the draw...

wow! Estonia lose their semifinal to France...so, no team Gold for them after the amazing triple in the individual event...

meanwhile, on the men's side, Russia lose to Romania in the quarterfinals...and this is the only assault gone against the ranking...all the other favourites are through to the last 4...

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
