Central American and Caribbean Games 2018

Recommended Posts

Mexico still looking strong with 86 golds, 40 more than second place Colombia with 46 (Cuba has 38). 1st place seems very likely even if Mexico doesn't have a great second week.

Also gets me thinking how well Mexico will do at the next Pan American Games compared to nations from the region, considering Cuba's decline.

Only 22 golds away from our NOC's target, which is quite reachable at this point

As for next year PanAmerican Games, I think Mexico's chances will be the same: between 20-24 golds and over 80 medls in total... sadly some events in which we swept the podium (like swimming, squash, cycling and taekwondo) are not going to be able to produce the same results as here.

In Jumping, Pablo Barrios of Venezuela winning 2 gold medals: one in the total score (including the results of the qualification rounds) and the second one in the final, after a jump-off with a clean sheet and only a .15 time difference over second place :yes

Three Games records today in athletics:

:ANTGreene with 10.00 in 100m men's. Jamaica's Nesta Carter ran 9.92, but wind was 2.1.

:CUBSilva retained her title in women's pole vault, with a 4.70 mark.

:MEXSanchez won women's 10000 meters race, with an amazing sprint in the last 200 meters to overtake Puerto Rico's Beverly Ramos (who led all the race and had a 50 meters or so advantage until the last hundred) to finish in 33:41.48

Good day for English speaking countries:

:ANTCejhae Colin Green gained bronze in the men's 100m; also their men's doubles in tennis placed fourth, winning their first two matches against better ranked teams.

:BAR won a couple of bronze medals: one in women's boxing (-64kg) and the other one in women's 800m; so far only Barbadian women have been able to be on the podium, so their men should try to keep up the pace.

:BERadded a silver in men's trio in bowling, but at middle point they were close to winning. Too bad they couldn't close an excellent performance.

:IVB earned its first two medals: a silver in women's long jump thanks to Chantel Malone and a bronze by Eldred Henry in men's shot put, being the first of the medalist to break the Games record.

:JAM got three golds and a silver in athletics; first, both of their competitors break the Games record in men's shot put, to finish 1-2; next it was their turn in women's 100m with Jonielle Smith and in the men's 100m with Nesta Carter.

:SKN finished with silver in men's 100m, thanks to Jason Rogers' performance.

:TTO earned two silvers, both by women, one in 100m and the other in the 800m

Gold medal for Andrea Vargas Mena of Costa Rica  in 100m Hurdles :d First gold medal for the Ticos.

In the same event, a great silver medal for Vanessa Clerveaux from Haiti, its first of the Games

New Games record in men's hammer throw for Mexico's Diego Del Real with 74.95; he was close to a new Mexican and Area record but his last attempt was a fault.

    • Well, I see that the national competition between mixed doubles and also men increased. Also actually amongst women, too. Before it was mostly Kubeskova team that participated in some international events. This year, Synackova team did really well in the pre-qualification just the final qualification was not that good. But curling is about details. Generally, I am glad to see that there is really much higher competition than it was 10 years ago. And seeing Chabickovsky a Zelingerova making it to the Olympics in such a young age can be really promising for their career as curling is becoming more professional, as we see Grand Slams and other big tournaments.    As for now, I think that in Milano Team Klima and mixed doubles can make really interesting results. After all, they will finish in top 10 so just qualifying to the Games is already a huge achievement

    • Please do not bring this idea to Sindo
    • Tahli/Dean    Probably just as disappointed as the Australians on here are
    • Gotta feel for  defending world bronze medalists, but couldn't make it to the Olympics
    • with a steal of 3 in the 8th end,  can't make the last shot to stay alive.
    • Oh yea.  Seemed like they were starting to get some less than elite pitchers, but the commits they've had in the last 12 hours have been stellar.  Now the staff feels like an embarrassment of riches.  They have 3 elite starters and a bunch of guys that can eat innings.  Thrilled what Mark DeRosa has been able to put together.
    • It looks like you guys will be juuuuust fine.   Tarik Skubal, Logan Webb, Joe Ryan and Nolan McLean all committed within the last couple of days.
    • Yay for no disqualifications! Thanks @OlympicIRL for all the work! Getting close.
