About This Club

A place to chat all things American NOCs
  1. What's new in this club
  2. Aren't they planning a car free Olympics? I don't think there will be parking at any of the venues, so driving won't really be an option. Hopefully the bus system is good
  3. Happy to provide some ideas, suggestions, feedback, etc. as a local, if wanted at some point.
  4. The LA metro area has a lot of urban sprawl, but I personally wouldn't consider the Honda Center "far" from the other venues. You can select it as a destination in any a navigation app (Google, Apple, Waze, wtc.) to get an idea of general time it takes to get between venues.
  5. By car. There are buses and trains too, but most Angelenos would just drive on their own (or rideshare).
  6. Working on our schedule right now, too. Assuming wifey and I both get drawn, the four of us I think can go to 6 events. Arrive Day 5 (7/19) - Stay in Long Beach (potentially catching kitesurfing finals, if visible from shore with no tickets involved) Day 6 (7/20) - Athletics morning session. Windsurf finals that afternoon, if visible and no ticket required Day 7 (7/21) - Diving (M 10m Prelims), wander around Rose Bowl area Day 8 (7/22) - Beach Volleyball Day 9 (7/23) - Tourism around the Santa Monica Pier/catch the start of the M Road Race at Venice Beach Day 10 (7/24) - Day off Day 11 (7/25) - W Boulder Prelims - what 3 of us really want to see Day 12 (7/26) - Nothing, or something Day 13 (7/27) - Just for funsies catch the Race Walk, or artistic swimming... Day 14 (7/28) - Who knows? Day 15 (7/29) - Swimming (incl W 800m heats to see Ledecky) (I'd rather go to the session with her swimming the 1500m...but alas, of all the things, it overlaps with the W Boulder Prelims) Day 16 (7/30) - Back home Already found a good Long Beach AirBnB, would be perfect for beach volleyball/sport climbing proximity. Also has a pool for relaxing/funsies with the kids. Would love to see various areas of the city, as I've never been. My wife's dream is to see Team USA W Basketball. But too bad no way to know now which session to get.
  7. My ideal schedule (there is a 99% chance it won't end up like this lol): Day -2 Arrive (hopefully find a place in Carson area) Day -1 Rugby morning session Rugby again or hockey in the evening Day 0 Sightsee/day off Day 1 Beach Volleyball morning session Handball evening session Day 2 Diving morning session Find something in downtown LA for evening (Gymnastics, Badminton, Boxing, Fencing or Judo) Day 3 Table tennis morning session Athletics evening session Day 4 Leave This would be my ideal plan, but I highly doubt it will end up like this. Just wanted to play around with the Olympic schedule and see what I could realistically pull off.
  8. Yeah transportation from venue to venue is my biggest concern. Hoping to stay in the Carson area. Seems to be between all the venues. Organizers have said there will be no parking, so renting a car will make no sense. I know they a planning a car free Olympics, so I expect an increase in public transportation.
  9. Having never been to LA, and having never organized a trip to the Olympics (though I did go to a baseball game in 96 when I was just a wee lad), I don't know at all what the best course of action will be regarding lodging and transportation. -I doubt we'll be going to events every day. -We will probably be out there for 7-10 days. Probably flying, as cross-country road trip there and back is almost not worth the time/cost. (Three days each way from SC to the other SC.) -Still need to nail down which events we'd want to go to. -Will be myself, wifey, and our (then) 9 and 13-year-old girls. -Probably AirBnB - more space, kitchen to cook each day to save money, can book starting July or August of this year. If we rent a car, then gotta pay for it each day. If we have a car, no guarantee about parking nearby. Uber? Public transportation? Hypothetical increased Olympic transportation? How does a normal person from LA get from, say, Hollywood to Long Beach? Or the Sepulveda Basin (where the urban sports will be)?

  11. Hi, Y'all. Nice to meet everyone. I'm in MI (obviously). I enjoy mostly every sport, but my favorites include Baseball, Ice Hockey, Sport Climbing, Curling & T20 Cricket. Looking to discuss the road to LA28, and the subsquent olympics beyond that.
  12. Yeah event by event prices will be in April when the ticket purchasing slots occur. Only prices we know is that is starts at $28. Just praying they aren't as insane as the FIFA world cup prices.
  13. Yeah I get the vibe that it will be a split ceremony between Sofi and the Coliseum. Maybe something small in OKC for the athletes there as well. I doubt you'll get everything in one place. Maybe they'll have the full parade of athletes at either Sofi or the Coliseum. Not 100% sure how it's going to work, but it will be split in some capacity.
  14. Oh, are the ceremonies also gonna be in OKC, too? Yeah, Paris and to a lesser extent MiCo seemed to be games where it was better on TV. I'd want to go to a ceremony where everything was right there in one spot.
  15. Where are you seeing ticket prices already? Edit: I see on the official page they've got that listed. I was hoping for more event by event...but that seems to be coming in April. I also haven't begun to look at maps yet. I imagine that when we go, we'll also incorporate some other SoCal sightseeing (maybe even venturing to other parts of the state, national parks, etc.). I've never been to Cali at all. But yeah, geography will figure into all of this.
  16. I'll skip the ceremonies. Don't think it's worth the price, but that's my opinion. Plus, with it being in two locations + OKC, the tv coverage will probably be better than the in-person experience. Milan seemed awkward for the crowd that was there because there was stuff going on in four different locations.
  17. Yeah hard to plan two years in advance. But, just trying to narrow down what sports and venues I want to see. Tickets seem to be reasonable (they start at $28). But, who knows what percentage of tickets will actually be $28. I imagine gymnastics and basketball will be among the more expensive tickets, so I may stick to the more obscure sports like table tennis. The problem with volleyball is that it is in Anaheim, which is far from the other venues. Would to go to volleyball, but would have to figure out transportation.
  18. Oh, and of course, top of my bucket list would be Opening Ceremonies...but I think that will need to be something for after the kids are out of the house and we'd only have to buy two tickets.
  19. I'm mostly curious about how much tickets are going to be running for events...we're over here on two teacher salaries, and we'd be taking our two kids with us.
  20. Yes! Thanks for this thread. I just saw where the first ticket drop will be some time in April (crazy...two years ahead of time!). My wife would love to see a women's basketball game (specifically Team USA...but I don't think we'll be able to know which game will be theirs), or women's volleyball. I personally would love to see sport climbing (boulder, preferably) or table tennis. Perhaps even Modern Pentathlon (would get to see a variety of things). Gymnastics would be fun, depending on the event.
  21. A few sports and venues that are at the top of my list: - Athletics (would love to go see the LA Coliseum) - Beach Volleyball (always looks like the most fun sport at any Olympics) - Table Tennis (personal favorite of mine) - Diving or Soccer in Pasadena (love the picturesque mountains in that area of LA)
  22. I'm thinking about going to LA28. I want to make a place where we can discuss some of our plans so we can share ideas for ticketing, accommodations, travel, etc. I want to start with this question: Which venues/events/sports do you think are must see for LA28? If anyone has been to a summer Olympics before and wants to chime in based on past experiences, that would be greatly appreciated!
  23. Another member from Michigan (I assume?)
  24. Welcome @MichiganGold! Glad to have you here. Feel free to drop an introduction. Perhaps some of our other regulars @Quaker2001 @bmo @Bear Hollow @Triplecast and @Book can introduce themselves as well.
