Team USA - Sailing

Recommended Posts

Sailing - I think it was maybe windsurfing or kitesurfing that kind of tuned me in to Sailing in Paris or before...but it wasn't until I started watching some replays that I ever saw my first comps of the other disciplines.  I wish the Olympic replay system had better navigation (specifically, using arrows to fast forward) for a better experience when watching the videos, especially sailing where I'm having to skip around to try and find when a race is.

Anyway...looking forward to learning more and following it this year, as best as I can.  (Still not 100% sure on how to best follow it, but I think I found the major tournaments.)

For qualification, we get a full team automatically (7 per gender).

    • Looks like i severely overestimated the intelligence of the average Bulgarian.. Tragic result, but will see what happens now. Initial stance last night was that there won't be any EU blockage, but we will be "standing our ground on Bulgaria's interests", whatever that means. The campaign and the whole election cycle was more towards our domestic problems, corruption and status quo. There wasn't much foreign rhetoric, even though everyone knows Radev's position.   It's basically wait and see at this point. Like i mentioned before, this guy isn't as bombastic as Orban, but more tactical and cunning, so i don't expect fireworks in front of whole Europe.
    • First careers Play-off hattrick for Juraj Slafkovský last night in the opening Stanley Cup Play-Offs 1st round. That was like million years since it happened last time from a Slovak player
    • Do they have to make every sport a mass sport? There are mass sports and elite sports, and let's keep it that way. Not every sport has to be global, so let them back off and to leave fencing with safe...
    • it will end up like Michael Johnson's Track & Field experiment (I hope) 😈

    • To give some insight into how ridiculous Angharad's time was, the mixed relay that includes her, the infamous female breaststroker, is one second quicker than the four that includes Adam ****ing Peaty.   It's VERY rare your quickest mixed 4 includes your female breaststroker - the slowest stroke also creates, generally the biggest 'sex' gap. But if your male stroker is relatively very weak (think USA Tokyo 2020) it can be explained.   When your male stroker is Adam Peaty, backed up by Filip Nowacki, its insane.
    • Doesn't seem to be major changes.   Section 3.B has been updated in relation to the host nation quota to introduce 'eligible' into the criteria. In the new version, 'if the host country has not already qualified an athlete, the highest-placed host country eligible athlete based on the final results of the Olympic Games 2028 Qualification Event will directly obtain a quota place. If the host country has already had one or two athletes qualify via alternate pathways, the host country quota position will not be granted and will be reallocated.'   There is also a change to section F1 and F2 to introduce gender criteria - 'If an allocated quota place is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota places deadline, or is declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated to the next highest placed eligible athlete not yet qualified of the same gender from the same qualification event where the quota place was allocated , adhering to the maximum number of quota places per NOC, as outlined above (B.2).'
    • Massidda is another disappointment and Imperio- it's great that she has gold, but she's not making any progress in her results and with this result, she won't even qualify for the Olympics in 2028 (in 2024 also her failed to qualify). Considering the return of our old friends from Eastern Europe, Italy can basically give up on the sport- our chances of an Olympic medal are practically zero, at now.
