After some plus/minus "million" years we will participate at the World Boxing Championships

The only 19 years old junior Andrej "Bandi" Csemez did managed to achieve the impossible and qualify himself to the world championships. Ofc no chance at all to expect anything huge, just the fact that Slovakia is back on the world boxing map is already a success.  Congrats dude.

Until now the only and sole Slovak World Boxing Championship medal happened in 1997 in Budapest thanks to legendary Rudolf Dydi and his bronze in -48kg, a guy who instead to going to the Olympics spent his "free time" in prison :p

:SVK TEAM SLOVAKIA :SVK

Mens

  • Andrej CSEMEZ  (-75kg)

make the impossible possible :hyper:

Andrej Csemez won his first round match against the Asian championships runner up Lee Dong-Youn of :KOR  5-0 :woohoo:THIS is just UNBELIEVABLE !!! :toast:

he advanced among the last 16 !

incredible. in this round he will face the continental champion Khyzhniak of :UKR  just read that his next opponent has his own team staff with a a Kazakh personal coach and he has 8000 EUR per month salary lol, what a difference between the world and our boxing, I don´t even know if our mini-team had enough money to buy tickets to Hamburg, or they will have to return back by hitchhiking

Anyway Congrats "Bandi" and enjoy the rest of the championships :cheer:

but the sad news he'll meet Russia in next round

Edit : Russian boxer lost to American 4-1 , a very surprising quarterfinal between Egypt and USA

    • will have 5 representatives in Luge at the 2026 Olympics.      Jozef Ninis (Top pic) in the M Singles will compete at his 6th consecutive WOG !!! He debuted in Torino 2006 to close the circle in another Italian resort in 2026, by this he set the new Slovak Winter Olympic record of participation and tie the all time one with Erik Vlček competing at 6 games in Sprint Canoeing as well.   The remaining quartet (Pic 2) will debut at the Olympics, all still Juniors Christián Bosman & Bruno Mick in the M Doubles and still schoolgirls Viktória Praxová & Desana Špitzová in the olympic premiere of the W Doubles     Must also be said, that we were quite unlucky in this qualifiers periode, Marián Skupek missed the second M Singles quota by 1 point and ended first non-qualified athlete and the experienced pair Vaverčák/Zmij whoch was in clear qualifying position ended the season after Vaverčák broke his knee in the training in Sigulda 2 weeks ago   Also for the first time no W Singles participation for us meaning also obviously no participation in the Mixed Relay competition for the first time as well   Team (Updated as of 12th January 2026) 40 Athletes (30 M + 10 W)
