  1. Celine van Gerner has announced her immediate retirement. After some injuries she was on the way back, but she started doubting about there being more in life and decided she wants to focus on her studies and the 'normal' part of life from now on.
  2. Ah, you're a Frenchman, considering you say you're from where triathlon originated? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triathlon#History The Netherlands doesn't really have a national sport. Some candidates and why they may or may not be a national sport: - Football; like almost anywhere in the world it's by far the most popular sport in terms of viewing numbers, fans, and so on - however, one can hardly call the world's most global sport any country's 'national sport' - Korfball; obviously the Netherlands has always dominated this to kabaddi-like levels for India, but in reality not many people actually care; the national competition's final is usually live on TV (paid channel nowadays), but that's about it, you won't really see the world championships on TV for example, perhaps a very short bit of highlights of the final. - Speed skating; by far our most succesful Olympic sport and generally pretty popular (though nowhere near as close as football); usually divided between two sides, one with people who like it and one with people who say it's just for old men; it's on TV pretty often in the winter, but nowhere near as close as the amount of time it had 15 years ago, World Cups are generally not shown live (they are on the public broadcaster's website, not on TV); quite a lot of people own a pair of skates and you'll see a lot of people on the lakes in the rare case they're all frozen, so it might have a chance for being the national sport - Kaatsen/'Frisian handball'; weird sport practiced in a weird province of the country of which I have no idea how it works and how popular it is over there in reality, rest of the country doesn't give two craps; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisian_handball
  3. And this week they reached the quarterfinals at the world championships in Durban (South Africa) and got close to kind of a sensational win against Taiwan Round of 16 Belgium - Hungary 27-6 Taiwan - Japan 42-22 Germany - Poland 22-9 Netherlands - Ireland 34-7 Suriname - England 22-18 China - Slovakia 31-9 Portugal - Catalonia 15-11 Czech Republic - Australië 27-15 Quarterfinals China - Portugal 25-21 Taiwan - Suriname 20-18 Belgium - Czech Republic 27-10 Netherlands - Germany 25-9 Semifinals (Thursday) Taiwan - Belgium Netherlands - China Which means today we had a repeat of last year's ECh final, where Germany surprisingly managed to reach the final.
  4. If you want to make your little protest, at least do it in grammatically decent English
  5. Doesn't count when it's a public bathroom and garbage dump
  6. Right, the Hispanics in his eyes invaded Texas...for which there is a point to say, if you're a native American
  7. In the worst years Ferrari (sure, Schumacher specifically) was just nearly unbeatable...back in those days I used to watch the start and then go to my room and ask my dad to call me if anything happened (I was not often called back)
  8. Spain against Spain, cool.
  9. Nope, I disliked Red Bull as much when they dominated that much Just like I disliked Ferrari in the Schumacher-era.
  10. And then? People walk the streets for a bit, with their slogans and chants and signs, and then that dies down and a year later the whole thing repeats.
  11. RIP random women's dignity
  12. So in Thailand there was a 200m rollerskiing race and one of the women's participants just (really) barely managed to get under four minutes.. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&raceid=34387 I can in all honesty say I can rollerski 200m within four minutes, even if I fall, and having had not more than an hour of practice..
  13. Ok wait, in terms of results and start lists it's excellent and everything is super easy to find. In terms of live results nowadays it sucks since the free Java applet isn't available anymore
  14. Thanks, it was not a joke. I find this website rather inconvenient and apparently hard to find, unlike Omega's easy website.
  15. Everything he says is almost literally always the same, PR machine 2.0, and I usually prefer athletes who seem like they're more concerned about their sport than their appearances and getting as much attention as they can. Plus even after his easiest, most dominant wins, he comes across as if he's just had the fight of his life, just to make it look like he didn't have a car that's 10 times faster.
  16. There's always a bit of getting used that has to be done when going from FINA world championships with the excellent Omega results website to LEN competitions where everything sucks Any idea where I can find the (PDF) results? I only found something on the official Kiev 2019 website but that looked a bit amateuristic, no PDF or schedule or start lists.
  17. Apparently, he his this thing, if it is correct that the person on the second photo witnessed it and is pointing out where it happened.
  18. Absolutely! He's still a great driver, don't get me wrong. It's his whole personality (at least the one we see on TV) that makes me go all....'yuck'.
  19. That was also @mrv86's last ever online post, nobody knows where he went
  20. There's no video, luckily. It happened right before the live broadcast started, but apparently he crashed into a ditch and hit a concrete 'pipe'/tube that was in there, straight on the head.
  21. Yeah our commentator was saying, right after Kvyat vs Albon, that Haas boss Günther Steiner should make a recording of it and play it to Magnussen and Grosjean over and over and over again
  22. By the way, Albon vs Kvyat was one of the nicer battles I've seen this year, spending half a lap just right next to each other
