  1. A french girl not named Worley winning a race ?
  2. tbh, he asked to switch his UCI nationality way before the war, and he's already a french citizen since he turned 18.
  3. L'Equipe had interviewed 381 racers from the World Tour asking what is their favorite race between the 5 monuments and which race should (if any) join the list of the most prestigious one day classics. Favorite race: 1) Paris-Roubaix : 29.7% 2) Tour of Flanders : 25% 3) Liège-Bastogne-Liège : 19.6% 4) Lombardia : 14.2% 5) Milan-San Remo: 11.5% A majority, 53.5%, believe the Strade Bianche should join the list. Other races get a few votes, and 28.1% think we should stay as it is.
  4. It's important to remember the justification IOC came up with to recommend the ban (which in IOC terms is not called a ban) https://olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-eb-recommends-no-participation-of-russian-and-belarusian-athletes-and-officials Now, we shall see if this 'dilemma' will stand in future conflicts...
  5. Precisely. Where does is starts ? Who decides and on what grounds ? The reasoning behind the banning of Russia could have been applied to ban other nations before (including Russia also), but was not. This is very much a slippery stone issue. Sport is now an official part of the war package and we will see nations constantly asking for other nations to be banned from sports organisations.
  6. Why Azerbaïdjan has not been banned by any sport federation ? Lack of twitter outrage ? ...
  7. That's fucking insane. You want to ban people from sport (and from their living) based on their political view.
  8. Good thread ! Alpine skiing (-) I'm all in favor of a team event in alpine skiing, but the format suck ass. Both courses should count, and if it takes to much TV air time to do so, just have one man and one woman competing then. Biathlon (-) I've vever had any problem with the sprint/pursuit double thingy. It's just the way the sport develops itself. The only thing, i would consider is having the single mixed relay instead of the regular one for the sake of format diversity, possibly with 2 teams per nation. Bobsleigh (-1) Monobob should never have been a thing, but at least it showed us that this sport is much better when a country(es) doesn't have a huge technological advantage vs the rest of the world. Same equipment for everyone should be something to aim for. In the meantime, I'd reverse to the Pyeongchang program, looking to add 4 women at some point. Cross-country skiing (+2) I've never been a big fan of disciplines alternating events each olympic cicles. I guess it's ok for distancers as they have 3 events, but not for sprinters. I would have both a classic and a freestyle sprint race, and have both style during the team sprint (and also on a shorter race, so that sprint specialists have a bigger edge). Curling (-) Nothing to say about the Olympic events, but I would like to see curling open to synthetic ice. It would certainly open new horizons for the sport. Figure skating (-) Whatever. Freestyle skiing (+2) Skicross team (mixed) team event must be a thing, and also some kind of a mixed moguls events. Generally speaking, I wish every athletes to have at least two shots during the olympics. Hockey (-) Expand the men tournament to 16 teams ! (obv, no self interest here) Luge (-) No issue with the program. But I think, there is an argument to remplace artificial track with natural one. At the very least, we would have two nations chasing gold medals, and not just one (success !). But more important, with natural tracks costing a fraction of artificial ones, the sport would have a chance to become popular in new areas (that will never be the cases with artificial tracks). Nordic Combined (+1) Female event in 2026 seems a given. And I guess, it's ok. Short track speed skating (-) I believe the sport is struggling between two attitudes: is it rollerball on ice or speed skating on a shorter track ? Post-race reviews should not in any sport have so much influence. IMO, either the sport accepts itself as a somewhat contact sport, or it should change everything (formats, distances...) Skeleton (+1) Add the mixed team event Ski Jumping (-) I would add the large hill women event and keep only the mixed team event. Snowboarding (+2) For the sake of variety in formats, I would only consider adding the Parallel Slalom if we go back to the old (non-parallel) giant slalom format. Rest is ok. Speed Skating (-) Fine, except for the women 5000m that should be replaced by the 10000m. I also believe that 14 events should be the upper limit for this sport, so no team sprint event.
  9. We could all see that coming. I won't be surprised if this ends up with a complete russian ban from the world of sport.
  10. Okish (5/10) The total of medals (14) was a bit inferior to the objective set (15 medals like in Sochi and Pyeongchang). The numbers of golds (5) was good though, and better that what I was expected. Still, I have a virtual balance in my head, and the deceptions (Moguls M&W, Ski Cross, Julia Simon, Emilien Jacquelin, Jouve & Chanavat, Tessa Worley, Pinturault, Tess Ledeux kinda...) weight much more than the good surprises (QFM overacheving, Braisaz, Clarey, Faivre...). It didn't help that that last events after Braisaz gold was a small serie of crual disapointments (QFM last shooting on the MS & the alpine ski team eliminated by 0.02 sec.) We didn't have huge disapointments (nor out-of-reality achievements). I'd say, the snowboard cross teams and their wax problems was the saddest point for me at these olympics, Clement Noel gold the most 'fuck yeah" point and Braisaz gold the most WTF one. Edit: non-medal-wise, I also have a soft spot for Delphine Claudel performance in the 30km. It was the first time ever, that a french women seemed able to reach an olympic podium. Edit2 : L'Equipe had 6 frontpages consecrated to the olympics (one for each gold, and the day of the opening)
  11. Interesting enough, had less Top 8 finishes (74) than (83) and (81) . Their n°1 ranking might not be as secured as it seems.
  12. I'm complety in favor of a team event in alpine skiing, but this format... Yeah. In theory, would it be possible to have a relay a la luge (with racers alternating blue and red courses) ?
  13. Some stats regarding the number of medals won at these Olympic Games by country VS the ones won on average at the various world championships during this olympic cycle (olympic events only). W. Chps OG Rate 20,3 18 89 % 24,8 26 105 % 6,5 15 231 % 4,5 8 178 % 15,7 14 89 % 32,5 27 83 % 11,5 17 148 % 9,3 18 193 % 6,3 9 142 % 20,2 17 84 % 42,5 37 87 % 38,7 32 83 % 4,0 7 175 % 16,3 14 86 % 14,8 18 121 % 23,2 25 108 % China had extraordinary home Games, scoring more than twice the number of medals they had during the world championships. You would have to look back at SLC 2002 to notice a comparable home field advantage. Japan and South Korea also had great olympics which might be explained by their geographic proximity (ans also because SK didn't participate at the last short track WChs) Our firend @phelpsfeared the worst for his country, and yet Italy ended up with some kind of hallelujah games. Though, it might be a challenge to match this tally in 4 years. Contrary to a canadian legend, the country is far from having a bad conversation rate (well, gold medals wise, that may be a different story) Other nations seem to have a somewhat expected ratio ranging from 121% to 83%
  14. It's a given really. IOC is trying its best to reach 'gender equity' by 2026.
  15. That much is true. But what killed it for me (well not really, when sport is on; it's on regardless of anything else), is that it comes right after the no-spectators Tokyo 2020 and Pyeongchang 2018 which allready lacked any 'real' winter olympics atmosphere. And, we could also think back to Rio which was not so great in that regard. I think, we all need the 2024/2026 Games to come out with a bang, to relive this inner olympic flame.
  16. Am I the only who never liked having a medal ceremony for one and only one event during the closing ceremony ? It always seems weird to me.
  17. Which is exactly how she shot during her early success in the world cup 😬 It will be interesting to notice what her next shootings will be.
