But to be more specific and trying to say: why is the russian case different?
 
In two words: other states did not annex territories, did not include annexed territories to theis sport`s structures, did not use objects and facilities at the annexed territories for their sports and athletes. These actions directly violate the Olympic Charter - according to the document the structire of the Olympic movement is based on the borders of the independent states.
 
This statement is proven.
 
Russians hired best lawyers they could, went to TAS/CAS and tried to prove that the sanctions imposed on their NOC are allegal becaues there were the same situations when the sanctions were not imposed. 
They lost the case - TAS/CAS analyzed all the cases presented by russians and did not find any other case matching the russian one.

I even can say when this "wrong turn" had happen exactly - during another Olympic truce - in 2008 when russia annexed part of Georgia.
The world did not react properly and it was a clear signal - the international institutions are to week to defend the values they proclaimed.
So the current system of international relations is being actively ruined by the leaders who are plaing themselves over the institutions and laws.
 
The IOC and IPC are the international institutions too and they faced with the same challenge.
It looks like their choice is "money" but not "values". 
That`s why those speeches about the Olympic values by Coventry make me sick.
 
I really do not know how the IOC and IPC can reinstate their reputation now.
Ok, they can just wait and join the winner. But they have no any guarantee that the outcome of the war which is getting global will not bring absolutely new world sport structure. Too many "black swans" may happen to predict.
Furthermore, Coventry looks to be absolutely incompetent for this position.

Yes. IPC officially confirmed that athletes from Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine boycotted the ceremony.
 
In total 26 of 55 countries missed the ceremony. Some of them did not plab to attend it from the very beginning die to logistics but joined the reaction to russian`s reinstatement later. That helped IPC to have a shorter list of official boycotts.

I suppose the right move was to ban  and  when they supported russian war with weapons or/and soldiers.
The problem - is that is was not done on time

I think they can show it in some prepared video.
 
But using it physically at the ceremony will be a scandal.
 
Sorry, it is not so easy to put it aside for us. Just imagine feeling of the British athletes at the competition where Nazi flag was used during WW2.
