phelps replied to Mkbw50's topic in Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
In Sailing also some news have been released... Total Quota Places available: 350 (about 40% of them being awarded at the Aarhus Worlds in 2018) By Class: Men's RS:X: 25 Men's Laser: 35 Finn: 19 Men's 470: 19 Men's 49er: 19 Women's RS:X: 27 Women's Laser Radial: 44 Women's 470: 21 Women's 49er FX: 21 Mixed Nacra 17 Foil: 20 moreover, the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 will have multiple races on the final day of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 49er, 49erFX, Men's and Women's Skiffs will do Theatre Style Racing over a short windward leeward course with lane boundaries constricting the racing area. The Nacra 17, the mixed multihull, will conduct modern America's Cup style racing over a short course that will include a reaching start to a windward mark, then leeward - windward - leeward to a reach finish. -
1-I agree...playing a Memorial Tournament far away from the home of the people you're supposed to commemorate is just senseless... but you know...nowadays is everything all only about money...and when we talk of hockey and money, North America is the place to be... 2-aaagh!!!! that's very bad news for me (and not only for me, I guess)... I hope they just make up their minds and take some money off for the KHL, too... however, I haven't seen any more football on their schedule...it's still the same French and Itallian leagues and the German Cup + the European qualifiers to Russia 2018...so, the money should still be there...I keep my fingers crossed (and in the meantime I just set up my dish to perfection...just in case)... 3-at least that...

BBC is also broadcasting the Eventing europeans... Saturday and Sunday they will be live on Red Button Channel (viewable also FTA on satellite @ 28.2 East)... and Sunday there will be a full 2-hr summary on BBC 2 (from 17.45 to 19.50 CET)... of course all this will be also available online (with a VPN)... here you can find the BBC Sport Schedule (full week, all sports included of course)... http://www.bbc.com/sport/36722726

Last week I saw a few games of the Ivan Hlinka memorial... quite an entertaining event for the period, even if Canada were clearly better than any other team and Slovakia were quite awful, to be honest... p.s. @hckosice I don't see any KHL game scheduled in the next weeks on Sport 1 & 2 (I noticed only CHL matches)...have someone else bought the tv rights for the new season in CZE and SVK or what? I'm a bit worried... it wouldn't be nice to lose tv games of the second best hockey championship in the world... as you know, for IIHF Hockey I rely basically on the Czech and Slovak tv channels (I've seen that next week's games between CZE and SVK will be broadcasted on both Czech and Slovak public Tv...I love that), sice satellite feeds are inconsistent and sometimes unreachable with my not so big dish...I desperately need some good news...

Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)
phelps replied to heywoodu's topic in Totallympics Mixed Zone
but you have to consider that all MLB (and other main Pro Leagues, too) Baseball suspensions are also a big economical loss for those who are caught...for most of these players, getting a 100 games suspension means also losing 62.5% of their yearly salary (which generally is a many million dollar salary)... and normally they also lose their rich sponsorship contracts when they get suspended... so, in my opinion they are hit a lot harder than any other sportsman, since they are heavily hit in their wallet (the thing they care more about, without any doubt)... @vinipereira there's a lot of money surrounding Pro Baseball and it's very difficult to make it to the top level because of the very high competition, so it's obvious that there are also many cheaters who try everything (illegal stuff included) to earn a place under the sun... and technically, to succeed in baseball you need a lot of skills...strenght, speed, ability to stay focused, very good reflexes...so, there are a lot things you can improve with medicines, which favors the abuse of certain (banned) substances... -
sure...that study was funded by people who wanted to cancel the gender rules...it's obvious that they stated such big lies... the proof...when Semenya was forced by the rules to take medicines to correct her level of testosterone could only run 2.05 in the 800m, when she's free not to take any medicine to lower her masculine level of testosterone she's able to run 1.55 (and better)... the same with Pamela Jelimo...she looked unbeatable (and ran 1.54)...after she started to take those corrective medicines, she basically had to retire... well, I know a couple of people having gone trough sex change procedures...and I can tell you that even after having completed the transition (so, after having taken tons of medicines, estrogen and things like that), they still have uncommon strenght and physical ability than "natural born" women... nobody will never make me change my mind about the fact that women not biologically born as women can play sport against other "real" women in fair conditions...they will always have a big advantage (and trust me...it's not a question of being racist, sexist or anything else...it's just like things actually are)... by the way, the official clinical definition for Semenya, Wambui and Nyonsaba's cases is "androgyny"/"hyper-androgynism"...

I think because Herning is Denmark's Hockeytown (and they have great sport tradition in general), meanwhile in Copenhagen there's not a great tradition in this sport (but still it's the Nation's Capital and IIHF wanted in any case some matches -finals included- to be staged there)...

Summer Olympic Games 2016 Replay Videos
phelps replied to AmericanHero40's topic in Summer Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016
for what concerns Wrestling, on the UWW website you can find full videos of all the single bouts in each weight class (and the video player is the same of the Olympic Channel, not the usual UWW player)... the only problem is that all results are spoiled in the bouts lists... https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/olympic-games better than nothing, I guess (even if it makes it impossible to complete your wonderful posts with the daily development of the events)... -
to be honest, if there's an idiot, that's the Dutch (and I'm not glad he didn't get hurt himself)...he could have broken Gallinari's jaw with that dirty elbowing (which was also totally not necessary in a "friendly" game)...

Tokyo Summer Olympic Games 2020 News
phelps replied to uk12points's topic in Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
well, I don't think the question of increasing the number of Gold medals awarded is the key point in this case... we all know that the main issue is the total number of athletes of every sport... but Falcinelli's idea keeps the total number of boxers within the IOC indications... on the other hand, the next big question is the fact that IOC and AIBA will never give green light to this proposal because it would mean that their first idea was completeley wrong... and we all know that ego of this bunch of idiots always comes first...they can't be wrong and they're untouchable by definition... so, I also think that it would end up in nothing, but still I'm glad that at least someone "important" in the world of sport started raising doubts and objections to this fool politics pursued by Bach and his crew... p.s. by the way, I think that women's boxing shouldn't even exists (women don't have enough of the most important feature required from boxing: power)...so, you can imagine what's my opinion on this question... -
full finals session from Italian TV (you can find on Raiplay website also the previous days up to 7 days): http://www.raiplay.it/video/2017/07/Budapest--HUN---Nuoto-Campionati-Mondiali-2017-Nuoto-Semifinali-e-Finali-67faaafd-ce35-4d2e-92a3-4f4ffe6e954d.html once again, I don't know if a VPN is needed or not... meanwhile here you can find some videos of the single events (the VPN question is always on), included some interviews to Italian athletes... http://www.raisport.it/

Tokyo Summer Olympic Games 2020 News
phelps replied to uk12points's topic in Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
finally someone is starting to say that IOC's obsession for gender equality is not making a good service to the sport... EUBC (European Boxing Confederation) stated in an official document presented by the President in person, Mr. Franco Falcinelli, all of their doubts about the new program proposed for the next Summer Olympics and made a counter-proposal that I hope will be evaluated with attention and intellectual honesty and not just dropped without even discussing it... here's the EUBC considerations: http://www.eubcboxing.org/news/womens-boxing-in-tokio-2020/ -
Water Polo at the Aquatics FINA World Championships 2017

the US girls are really a machine...just unstoppable... I hope that the other teams can do something to shorten the gap between now and Tokyo 2020, but I also have serious doubts about it... -

here you can find the full match, with English commentary (I don't know if it's free or if you need a VPN...here in Italy it's free): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5v3ih6 -
to be precise, Phelps won Bronze (200 fly) already in Sydney 2000... however, we're just talking about 3/4 exceptions (and all of them males)... but I agree that I should have written "I don't think there many other swimmers (...)" Ervin doesn't count since he was out of swimming for 13 of his 16 year-career (moreover, he was a drug addicted and psychotic subject...so, he's not even an athlete to me...the worst example one could choose...in each and every aspect of life)... and please, don't even try to name Dara Torres...she also was out of the sport for years and then had an artificial comeback, which wasn't suspect...all the people around swimming knew she wasn't "natural" at all in her second swimming life (my consideration of her is more or less the same of Sun Yang, Yulia Efimova, most weightlifters & so on...cheaters and nothing else)...
-
to be honest, I didn't remember the Polish guy already swimming 7.45 2 years ago...that's a more than reasonable progression...so, my suspects were absolutely wrong... my fault...I beg your pardon (and of all the Polish fans, of course)... on the Italian guys I put my hand on fire they're not doing anything excessively wrong...our anti-doping system do not allow any of our sportsman to steal medals with certain methods (actually, we also get some innocents disqualified under more than suspicious circumstances - and I'm not necessarily talking about Alex Schwazer, who is not that innocent in general - maybe the last time yes, but not in previous occasions)...
-
the Olympic competitions in Fencing are always a lot different from the World Champs... getting a qualifying spot is already like winning a medal... moreover, they are good only in Epee, which is the most crowded and unpredictable weapon of the entire program... in Foil and Sabre general values are a lot clearer, there are not as many upsets like in Epee...they should try to establish themselves in the other 2 disciplines to get more chances...
-
well, congrats to him... he's a real champion...unfortunately he's been unlucky, since he had to face throughout his entire career 2 "monsters" like Phelps and Lochte, otherwise he would have won tons of Gold medals at the World Champs and Olympic Games... however, he also had a fantastic career in any case...and I hope he can win at least 1 Gold in this home soil World Championship...

what a wonderful day for Italy... first the unbelievable double Gold at the Swimming Worlds, then this fantastic comeback and triumph over the US (bad) boys in the men's team foil... and if Garozzo has been by far the best on the pistes all day long, what can I say about Avola's resurrection in the last 2 assaults of the final bout? really amazing...this is what we call "a mentally strong guy" or, as they say in Spanish, "huevos"... congrats to him...it wasn't easy to react like he did after all the troubles he had in the previous bouts and, above all, in the first assault of the final... and, final satisfaction for us, we also won the medal table with 4 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals... last Olympics maight have been a little disappointing, but the Italian Fencing is still alive and in good shape... see you next year...

Fratelli d'Italia, l'Italia s'è desta! wow! the Italian Anthem's first line fits perfectly to what happened today... for the first time ever, Italy win 2 Gold medal in the same day in the pool in a world and/or Olympic championship... unbelievable...absolutely unexpected... Federica just got the right prize for her amazing career (14 years at the top - she won the silver medal in her beloved 200m freestyle already at Athens 2004...I don't think there are other swimmers with such longevity at this level)... hoping that she makes up her mind and somehow finds the way to give it a shot also in Tokyo... and Detti was also phenomenal over the men's 800m free...it looked like a 2-man race between Paltrinieri and the surprising (suspect? sorry, my friends...but when someone improves that much all of a sudden I can't hide my doubts...) guy from Poland, when he started his final charge in the last 150 meters and doubled up his rivals in the last 50... after missing Kazan 2015 because of an annoying injury, he also gets his "sweet revenge"... and now I'm really curious to see what's gonna happen over the 1500m free...with Greg not his best shape, I think the race for gold could be more open than expected... p.s. on today's session in general...sad to be said, but Ledecky's defeat and, above all, Sun Yang's flop are almost as sweet as the Italian medals...
-
thanks to these results, Italy has won the medal table no matter how the medal bouts go... our men's foil team made up for last year's shameful Olympic and easily beat GBR and FRA with Garozzo and Foconi on fire (meanwhile Cassarà is struggling a lot and Avola luckily was taken off after he almost ruined the quarterfinals bout against GBR by himself alone)... no comment, instead, on the women's epee team...we just need to change all the team members if we want to have at least a shot at the Olympic qualification for 2020 (Fiamingo must go only for individual events and the other girls...well, there's a very high request for new faces in the Chinese, American and African mines)...
-
can't believe how SUI lost the final bout...what a wasted chance to win their first ever WC gold in team's epee... meanwhile, congrats to the Italian girls, who didn't waste their big chance to get another world title after 1999 and 2003... they're definitely not the best in the world, but today all the favourites made mistakes and didn't show their skills...so, the winners are always right, losers don't... and thanks to that, Italy are now back on top of the medal table with 3 gold , 1 silver and 4 bronze medals... tomorrow is the last competition day and hopefully we're going to see some other surprise and also some other Italian success (to be honest, I'm more curious to see what Japan can do in the men's team foil after their brilliant individual tournament more than anything)...
-
short time of bouts is surely explained by the fact that normally tournaments have so many starters that an athlete going through to the final round has to fight 6/7 times a day (and they want to keep each class within the single day - apart for the world finals which are normally separated from the rest of the competition for television purpose)... by the way, I agree with you on the fact that they should have a bit longer bouts...2 minutes isn't even fair to the athletes themselves (my idea is 4 minutes + 1 minute OT if necessary before the final decision - I'd like to see the wrestling principles...the biggest single score of the bout wins, then the first score...only in case of absolute tie, the hantei)... I also agree about the rules changing too often and sometimes being inconsistent...but I hope that now they are in the Olympic program, they get more and more consistent, at least not changing things if not once every 4 years (it would be a success for the sport and for the fans, imho)...
-
no, not exactly... they won a bronze medal in Track Cycling World Champs in 1982, if we only consider Olympic sports... but they also had some gold medals in Kick-Boxing and Karate (under the WKA federation, which is/was the big rival of the nowadays Olympic federation, WKF)... https://www.liechtenstein.li/fileadmin/Dateiliste/liechtenstein-li/Dokumente/05_Sport/Liechtensteiner_Medaillen_an_Weltmeisterschaften.pdf
