  1. Nemour performed the 6.7 D routine instead of the 6.9 D, so she played it "safe" here. If she had gone all the way, she would have earned gold. Still, a phenomenal result and the first-ever medal for an African nation at the senior World Championships (an Egyptian gymnast got a medal this year at Junior Worlds). Okay, I have to admire the consistency of Liu, Petrounias and You on rings, but I'm bummed for the other gymnasts. Davtyan has been chasing this medal for more than a decade now... He always comes so, so close! On pommels, it was a nice result despite a weak final. Excellent performance from the Irish gentleman and the silver-medalist from the USA, but everybody else kind of disappointed me. Still, another impressive medal for Jordan. Who would have thought? Two in a row! Floor was exciting, but I'm worried about Yulo. He deserves an Olympic medal, still his performances have not been all that great. I'm super happy with a medal for Karimi, though. He's one of my favorite gymnasts! And I don't even have to mention how excited I am to see Rebeca Andrade becoming the world champion once again! Also, I'm super happy for Yeo. She also deserved this medal so much. Biles took a risk and it did not pay off, but she is the greatest of all time and nobody will take this away from her.
  2. I see challenging for a medal in men's trampoline, and and maybe in women's trampoline, so will have a hard time, for sure. Now, the men's artistic team is pretty strong and could realistically win the team event depending on who will compete for and . The women's team will have trouble finishing in the top 3, since on paper are stronger. I'd say that even with Black, the women's team would have a hard time earning bronze (but one can never be sure with Mexico, who had a great competition at the Pan Am Championships and a somewhat bad one at the World Championships).
  3. This was a much better team final than last year's. score good enough for silver last year wouldn't even be enough for a medal this year. was the only team that did not count a fall today, just like in 2022, so consistency is key in winning a medal. had to count a fall, but difficulty was a lot higher this time, so we had a nice cushion. Now, all I want is: 1) a medal for Nemour; 2) a medal for Yeo; 3) a medal for Andrade on beam. Everything else that happens will be just a bonus.
  4. France made me eat my words! The girls did NOT crumble under pressure! And Brazil with a silver medal... I'm ugly crying here!
  5. What surprised me is that Belgium did not even manage to qualify an individual gymnast! There were 15 spots and they still failed to qualify, while much smaller women's programs like managed to qualify at least one person. I'm sure Derwael will have no trouble at all qualifying either through the World Cup series or through the all-around competition at the European Championships, but it was a hard blow to the Belgium program this time.
  6. Nope. The rules strictly forbid nations to compete as a team with less than 5 individuals.
  7. Definitely not "early" thoughts, but here are my thoughts nevertheless. I'm very surprised with some of the teams that qualified on the men's side, especially and the , two countries that flew under my radar. Canada went from a 238-ish at the Pan American Championships to 249, which is HUGE. Not to mention and scoring about 245, which is insanely high for these programs. Overall, I think it was a very fair competition and everyone who qualified seems to have done it the right way. I expected more from but they had a rough day and kept blaming the organization for mistakes that the gymnasts made, so... No, they don't earn my sympathy. On the women's side, even the "shocks" such as and not qualifying a team, placing 12th and back into the team game were kind of expected because the writing was on the wall all year long. Only finally managing to qualify was a real surprise, in my opinion. has a great team with lots of individual talents that unfortunately crumble under pressure and things have not been different this time either. It will be great to see and battling for a team medal, while and could be the dark horses. Probably the most exciting team final this century because everyone has a chance to walk away with a medal.
  8. I don't think I could be any more heartbroken than I am now. 4th place tied with Italy, but tie-breaking rules gave us nothing and awarded Italy another medal. I'm really tired of following this sport. Guess it's time for me to "retire" from following gymnastics once and for all.
  9. I agree. Some Wikipedians are hard to deal with, and I have to confess that I've wanted to abandon the project entirely a number of times before. If one user is supported by other users, especially administrators, there's not much one can do.
  10. The senior Polish group won a gold medal at a World Cup stage this year, but I get your point. When it comes to World Championships, World Games or the Olympics, this is a first for Poland, and very, very impressive. Now, about her chances for Paris... I think they're slim. I didn't even try to understand the qualification system for Paris, but I think that her only chance to qualify will be at the 2024 European Championships. Not the best case scenario for a first-year senior. Also, she looks clean and strong, but she's scoring 30/31 (which is awesome for a junior gymnast) but the best senior gymnasts are scoring 34/35. Only time will tell what else she will be able to achieve, but don't get your hopes up until 2025.
  11. I still can't believe nothing was broadcast in rhythmic gymnastics.
  12. Watch out for a contributor named "buidhe". He wanted to delete my contributions to the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix article and I had to create new articles and delete old ones because it was not up to the standard he demanded. I'm definitely not going to contribute anymore to obscure articles.
  13. History for Brazil with a gold medal on 5 hoops today! And Japan is the 18th nation to get a medal this year. However, with two stages to go, I don't think last year's record (a whooping 21 nations) will be broken.
  14. Does anybody know where I can get the directives/rules for the Rhythmic Gymnastics Pan American Championships? On Twitter, a reliable account mentioned that the team event (the most important event for the World Championships, since top 3 teams qualify more than 1 gymnast to Worlds) will count the 8 best scores, but team events usually count the 10 best scores. This changes things quite a lot.
  15. A medal for Egypt!!! YAAAAYYY!!! After getting so close in 1950 and 2021 in the senior division, FINALLY a medal! First-ever medal for an African nation!
  16. A little late to comment here, but I'm super excited with the results. An all-around bronze medal for Brazil in such a strong field is nothing short of fantastic. Spain, China and Mexico are the only really strong nations missing here, so it was a very respectable field. This marks the first time a nation not from Europe or Asia earns an all-around medal at the FIG World Cup. It took 40 years for this to happen, but it finally did. Besides, 13 different nations got medals in the first stage, which is an all-time record for a single stage of the World Cup. I'm confident we'll see many more nations earning medals, such as Mexico, Azerbaijan, China, Spain, France and Ukraine. However, I'm not sure we're going to see new nations earning medals this year (Turkey is the only one I could think of, but they will need luck, while Lithuania, Armenia, Montenegro and Australia are very long shots).
  17. I'm not old enough to have seen Pele playing, so I was only able to follow the non-player Pele. Not my favorite person. He always denied and undermined racism in Brazil, he apparently denied the recognition of one of his kids, he never stood against the military dictatorship in Brazil, and more recently he was neutral in a very tumultuous election for president, not standing against Bolsonaro. He might have been a great player, but not the kind of person I would like to have around and chat for a while. Still, may he rest in peace.
  18. Messi deserved this so much! But since Argentina is Brazil's biggest rival in the continent, I'm a little bummed. LOL.
  19. Oh, what a heartbreak. I wanted Morocco to win so bad. To make things worse, all that's left is for Argentina to win tomorrow.
  20. I have nothing against Croatia, of course, but I've been against this Croatian team way before they tied and eventually defeated Brazil in a penalty shootout. I really dislike the way they are playing, their lack of ambition, the way they spend most of the matches defending and just waiting for a chance to score. Of course it must be thrilling for Croatians, but I really hate it. Also, I hate to admit it, but France is the only team that proved their worth for me, since losing with the reserve team is way more acceptable than what happened to Argentina: suffering a defeat with the main team. I am happy for Morocco, but I can't see they beating France. Besides, now they seem to be more confident, but they used the "let's defend and hope for the best" tactic way too often, which is not great.
  21. I have no doubts Argentina will win the tournament now. It will be very interesting to see which team will advance tomorrow, but I believe it will only be a formality to see which one will finish second or third, at this point, since neither look good enough to beat Argentina, but also not bad enough to lose to Croatia.
  22. I'm surprised he sounds nothing like someone from Portugal. I thought he would have at least a hint of Portuguese accent, but nope. Brazilian Portuguese through and through.
  23. He's not that bad. He's been criticized here by people from nations which have not even qualified, or left much earlier than Brazil. He has amazing qualities as a coach, and he is human, so he has the right to be pissed off with that team that has not been accurate when shooting to the goal. Questionable substitutions aside, he's been a very good coach and even gathering together a team with people who think so differently (i.e., douchebag Neymar and Richarlison) without internal fights is nothing short of a miracle.
