In Malta the water polo league is played in summer. So it is given more exposure by local media since other leagues from other sport disciplines will be on their summer break. There are about 10 teams split up equally in the 1st and 2nd division. Each team is allowed to have one foreigner in their team and the 1st division teams often engage a world class player from Hungary, Croatia or Serbia who have also won Olympic medals and world championships. This has helped to raise the level of water polo in Malta. All national team water polo players play in the local league apart from one player who play in the Italian top league. Being an island surrounded by water is also a factor that attracts youngsters towards this sport.

The Maltese national team also qualified for the Euro finals by beating Belarus 16-9 after losing the first leg 7-8, An important qualification for Maltese sports confirming our position amongst the top 16 nations in European waterpolo

I also was in doubt whether I had submitted that song. Unfortunately I could not confirm whether I had submitted it for another contest or whether it was just one of my shortlisted songs. If I am still in time I would like to submit another song for this contest -

MALTA Malta has once again left it to the last day to submit their participation song in this year's Totallympics Open International Song Contest. The Characters, a band of five Maltese guys, were popular in the mid-90s and have always been regarded as one of the best live tickets on the island. However, rather than building up, the band’s momentum seemed to burn out at some point, with each member going his separate way. Unfortunately, the times of the band was before that of YouTube. So no proper music video is available on the net. Down By The Water (The Characters) Take me down by the water where as children we played toffee, apples, candy floss, ice-cream Beatles, just seventeen By the water By the water let's go down by the water where our children can play watermelons and seedless tangerines American cola Remember the days we used to play every day children still play by the water by the water let's go down by the water where as children we played toffee, apples, candy floss, ice-cream Beatles, just seventeen Mother sang while the children played everyday children still play Yes, mother sang while the children played everyday children still play by the water Remember the days we used to play every day children still play Remember the days we used to play every day children still play by the water you see them play by the water you see them play Remember the days we used to play every day children still play Remember the days we used to play every day children still play I Remember the days we used to play -

MALTA For the first time in the history of the Totallympics song contests, the Maltese local jury has voted for a song in our own language. The Travellers - Xemx u xita Lyrics Dawl, fil-kamra ġej mill-musbieħ, id-dinja taħrab għal għonq it-triq, U x-xemx torqod fejn ma jidhirx, fuq xtajta oħra, biex tikxef l-art mis-silġ. X'ħin terġa' lura fejn is-smewwiet, nara pittura li kienet inħbiet, U int kont fejni naraw flimkien, minn wara t-tieqa rajna dinja mill-bidu bdiet. Fix-xemx, fix-xita, fil-bard u n-nida Fix-xemx, fix-xita fil-bard u n-nida Fjura tikber minn bejn l-irmied, il-qamar waqa' u sar biċċiet. Fejn tħoss il-qalb dejjem hemm l-uġieh, li tara l-għajn huwa biss it-tmiem. Fix-xemx, fix-xita, fil-bard u n-nida Fix-xemx, fix-xita fil-bard u n-nida Lyrics (in English) Light, in the room comes from a lamp, the world escaping along the road, And the sun sleep where it cannot be seen, on another beach, to uncover land from the ice. When you return where the skies are, I see a painting that was hidden, And you where near me, seeing together, Behind the window we saw a world, from the beginning started. In the sun, in the rain, in the cold and in the dew In the sun, in the rain in the cold and in the dew Flower growing between the ashes, the moon fell and became pieces. Where the heart hurts, it is always painful, What the eye see is just the end. In the sun, in the rain, in the cold and in the dew In the sun, in the rain in the cold and in the dew
