  1. It's quite ironic to see Bulgaria having a foreign athlete bringing success.
  2. Seriously, who wrote the script? Yes, he was right behind the leading two after XC, but his horse Nereo was quite clearly considered to be the worst jumper of the three. Besides, Nicholson hasn't been the luckiest man in history. At the 1992 Olympics New Zealand was leading team competition by such a long way that Nicholson could get 7 fences down and still bring them gold. He dropped 9 fences on that occasion. This will definitely take some beating in my "sports moment of the year" category.
  3. Victory for Nicholson! Nobody saw that one coming! Amazing, just amazing. Finally his first Badminton victory after 36 completions. In 2015 he almost finished in a wheelchair. Nobody deserved this victory more. So happy for him. Klimke had a complete heartbreak though. Dropped to 9th place, ouch.
  4. Fence down for Jung. It's Klimke vs Nicholson now.
  5. First session of jumping ends, with Jonty Evans as the leader. Top 20 to go at 14:45 British time.
  6. Jonty finishes with a nice clear round. Would have been a historic result without that mishap yesterday.
  7. Ingrid Klimke's leading round from yesterday. Can she become the first woman to win Badminton since 2007?

  9. That's just awful and unreal. RIP
  10. Oh, and I forgot to point out that Jung had a toy pony tied to his back during his round. Not the most aerodynamic thing, but for a good cause.
  11. That's absolutely true, all superlatives for him. Though one feels like he needs 4 more Olympic golds and 10 more Badmintons to get they spotlight he deserves.
  12. Kiwis saved the second part of the day. Once again they prove they are simply the best on cross-country (not to take anything away from Jung and Klimke). Standings Ingrid Klimke 39.6 Michael Jung 40.0 Andrew Nicholson 40.4 Tim Price 48.2 Mark Todd 50.1 Nicholson was the last to go and just needed to be 2 seconds faster to be in the lead! That's unlucky. Price performed the only other clear inside the time round today. Klimke's 11 penalties were removed after an appeal, and quite rightly so. It didn't look like she broke any frangible pin!
  13. Yeah, Clare Abbott was really riding positively today. On some of the most technical fences it looked like she was going twice as fast as some of the others.
  14. Such a pitty for him. He had the equal split time as Michael Jung in the second part of the course. But he stayed positive in the interview, and looking forward for the Europeans. Cathal was super fast today. Only 6.0 penalties!
  15. Finally someone broke the spell! Klimke goes 0.4 penalties ahead of Jung. Third placed rider is like 15 penalties behind. Still gutted for Griffiths and Evans... EDIT: Klimke was apparently given 11 penalties for breaking the frangible pin. Spell is still there.
  16. Competition is becoming rather dull. Griffiths got 50 penalties for missing the flag. And now Evans getting a refusal after going very fast. I feel like there hasn't been a great round for hours... Well, not since Jung went.
  17. 4 eliminations in a row. Ouch. Let's see if Oiwa can end the combo.
  18. Elisa Wallace with a fall on the very last fence. Brazilian Marcio Carvalho Jorge is going really good!
  19. Michael Jung & Sam just obliterated everyone by going 2 seconds inside the time. The best ever horse & rider combination in history.
  20. What a round for Clare Abbott! Fastest so far, 21 seconds over. 20 jumping penalties for team Olympic champion Vallette.
  21. Clare Abbott going 100 km/h on first water.
  22. Austin O'Connor gets around clean. Anything without jumping penalties seems like an excellent performance today.
  23. Not so good performance for Rio silver medalist Astier Nicolas. He goes third for now with a lot of time penalties. Nicholson & Qwanza the fastest so far, 22 seconds over the time. Live streaming is available here, btw... https://www.badminton-horse.co.uk/badminton-live/
  24. Problems all over the place so far. Bragg and Todd the only clear jumpers. Disappointing elimination for Andrew Hoy.
