  1. medal table in men's freestyle after the first day 1-2-1 1-1-3 1-1-0 1-0-2 1-0-1 0-1-1 0-0-2 today we had wrestlers from in the bronze medal match, unfortunately all of them lost and as for Iran, it was a terrible terrible day, very disappointing. our 57kg and 65kg wrestlers lost to world class wrestlers, that was expected. but Hosseini (70) and Savadkouhi (79) lost to wrestlers much weaker than themselves. we brought our best wrestlers in non-Olympic weights (unlike most of the Olympic weights) and they were terrible here. Shaabani dominated the competition to win the gold, good for him. I believe he and Mohammadian are almost in the same level. it will be hard to pick one of them for the Olympics but Mohammadian has the upper hand now.
  2. first world record in first event kind of funny if someone breaks the world record and still doesn't get selected for the Olympics team in her own country. thanks to WL qualification rules.
  3. Finalists in first day of freestyle: 57: Ravi vs Sarlak 65: Bajrang vs Otoguro 70: Khasanov vs Talgat 79: Gong vs Savadkouhi 97: Yergali vs Shabani 65kg final between old rivals will be match of the competition. for Iran, our 70kg guy was extremely disappointing Ghiasi at 65kg also got manhandled by Otoguro in the semifinal. he is a very poor wrestler and I wasn't expecting anything more from him. the other 3 made it to the final. I believe Savadkouhi and Shabani will win the gold. Sarlak will be underdog against the world bronze medalist.
  4. India lost the women's team title to Mongolia by just 5 points, it came down to the 65kg final between MGL and IND and the Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik got pinned early in the match to gift the title to Mongolia. women's FS medal table 4-1-2 2-4-1 2-1-3 2-1-1 0-2-1 0-1-0 0-0-2
  5. you are probably right, but that's the point, nobody knows that change for sure. what if they only make exceptions for Oceania athletes ? in short, whoever misses the continental championships will miss the Olympics most probably.
  6. Start list https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/04/2020_ASIAN_CH_TASHKENT_UZB_START_BOOK.pdf some Asian top weightlifters are absent here, if I understand the rules correctly. everybody has to participate in one event in the new window to be eligible. they may change the rule since the Oceania Champs is cancelled, but if the rule stands, whoever doesn't participate at the Asian Champs won't be eligible to qualify unless he participates in the last renaming event in Colombia which is unlikely. how he hell someone ignores the Asian Champs in Uzbekistan to participate in Colombia (and that event in Colombia is not even a sure thing) no need to say that PRK is not participating some missing names. most importantly Irawan (61kg) without him, there is nobody to challenge China for the gold in this weight. and an interesting name in the list is Ruslan Nurudinov. 2016 Olympic Champion who is back after serving 2 years ban for his doping case in 2012 !
  7. Medalists from the first day of women's competition, only 1 bronze medal since we had less than 8 wrestlers in all events. 50: 1) Islamova 2) Immaeva 3) Seema 55: 1) Dulguun 2) Usmonjonova 3) Ualishan 59: 1) Sarita 2) Shoovdor 3) Anarkulova 68: 1) Zhumanazarova 2) Delgermaa 3) Jeong 76: 1) Syzdykova 2) Medet Kyzy 3) Pooja and without both China and Japan, Asia will have a new team champion in women's wrestling, Kazakhstan or Mongolia, or maybe India.
  8. the new Sadulaev is a bit conservative, he scores 3 or 4 and wins 3-0 or 4-0. some people think he is getting weaker but I don't think so, he just doesn't care about the scoreboard anymore. he wants the win with less possible risks. some wrestlers scored 1 or 2 against him "made him angry" and he destroyed them later
  9. Entries for the European Championships https://uww.org/article/wrestlewarsaw-european-cship-entries lots of big names here, some already qualified wrestlers but I think most of those who want to wrestle in Sofia and give themselves a realistic chance to qualify ( and cut a good amount of weight) preferred to stay home and prepare for the last chance tournament. interesting team from Russia, except Naifonov, none of their possible Olympic team athletes are wrestling here in the freestyle competition this confirms that Uguev, Rashidov, Sidakov and Sadulaev don't need to prove themselves anymore and most probably will go to Tokyo
  10. Greco-Roman medal table 4-2-3 2-2-2 2-0-3 1-1-4 1-1-1 0-3-5 0-1-0 0-0-1 ------------------- women's competition starts tomorrow. interestingly we have 7 or less wrestlers in all 10 weights, which means no joint bronze medalists at all !
  11. the 2nd day in Greco was totally different, both in term of results and the officiating, there is an unwritten rule in wrestling about not letting a country win more than certain number of gold medals and that rule was in full force today actually I was surprised with the level of officiating in Kazakhstan so far, specially during the Olympic qualifiers, not a single controversy, that's impossible in wrestling. looks like that was just an accident and they came back to their "normal" today. also I have to add that our wrestlers only have themselves to blame. despite all those bad calls, all 3 of them still could win their matches "easily" finalists for the 2nd day: 60: Sultangali vs Mohsennejad 67: Shimoyamada vs Kebispayev 72: Ryu vs Tsarev 82: Berdimuratov vs Asykeev 97: Bali vs Kim Iran is guaranteed the team title, still 2nd day was quite disappointing.
  12. Iran finished the first day in Greco with 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Kazakhstan and Japan won the remaining gold medals. a bit disappointed for Dalkhani's defeat, but Alizadeh did good and beat 3 future Olympians on his way to the gold. all 3 wrestlers he beat today had won the Olympic quota before. this is the only weight in men's wrestling that Iran failed to qualify (thanks to Mr Nouri and his mistake) our coach made it clear that Nouri is out. we still have 3 other guys in this weight but I assume this kid Alizadeh now has the upper hand. I don't think he can qualify though but at least he is young and talented.
  13. no. that one was moved to France (I mean the rest of the competition) that was about the last chance worldwide qualifier , which got cancelled and they awarded the quotas based on the ranking. (1 for each continent in each weight)
  14. not necessarily, this European Qualifier will award ranking points as well. it's probably unlikely but maybe someone finishes just outside the qualification zone but still collects enough pts to qualify via ranking. someone should do the math to see if that's even possible mathematically.
  15. good start for Iran at the star of the Greco-Roman competition here are the finalists: 55: Shiotani vs Bakhromov 63: Assetuly vs Dalkhani 77: Rezazade vs Poshtam 87: Alizadeh vs Azisbekov 130: Syzdykov vs Yousefi China isn't here and some countries didn't send some of their best wrestlers, but the level is still OK, for Iran, this is not our Olympic team but they did good in the first day, Poshtam was almost dead against Gurpreet Singh of India but somehow survived the match for a 7-7 win. for Alizadeh this is his first ever international competition but since Nouri failed to qualify the weight 4 days ago he will have a chance (to go to Bulgaria) if he wins the gold here.
  16. I will make it simple I believe anybody from Iran in wrestling, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Karate (men and women) will have a good chance for medal. average 50%. some of them much more. some of them much less. we have 11 quotas in wrestling, 2 in Taekwondo, probably (and hopefully) 2 in weightlifting, already 3 in Karate and I expect to qualify at least 2 more. that's 20 quotas 20/2 = 10 so my prediction is 10 medals.
  17. I had that question too but I probably know the answer per rules only participating countries from the 2020 continental Champs were allowed to send wrestlers to the Olympic Qualifiers, (the same number they had in the Continental Ch) and Sri Lanka didn't send a wrestler to the 2020 Asian Champs in India. but then Lebanon also didn't participate in that competition, yet their American wrestler was allowed to compete in the AQT. so I don't know
  18. Entries for the Asian Championships starting from tomorrow https://uww.org/article/asian-championship-april-13-18-entries brackets are available for Greco-Roman and apparently all Chinese wrestlers withdrew ! they had some names in the entry list (all of them wrestled in the qualifiers in past 3 days) Japan also pulled out of women's competition because of some coronavirus infection, women's competition will be very weak without these 2 powerhouses.
  19. whenever they feel they like it there is no rule to update the ranking for example exactly at the 1st day of month. they usually update it when they upload the result of that specific competition in their result section , still no results from the European Championship. https://www.iwf.net/new_bw/results_by_events/
  20. I'm quite sure they used Continental Championships as the only qualifier in wrestling for 1996 Atlanta, I'm old enough to remember that actually
  21. I wanted to ask a question not related to 2020 Olympics but didn't know where to ask lol when exactly IOC started to have qualification tournaments in all individual sports ? I know team sports have qualifiers for a long time but in individual sports it started something like 30/40 years ago. I'm just not sure if it was 1988 ? or 1992 ? or maybe even the boycotted 1984?
  22. hard to tell , he is currently 20th and I believe he will climb few positions when they update the ranking after this Euro but we don't know his real ranking, there is a loophole in the rules, some weaker weightlifters may use it in their advantage to qualify in another weight just to participate in the Olympics some guys above Nagy are in fact 109kg weightlifters who just participated once or twice in the super heavy weight to complete their 6 mandatory events. Yang (CHN), Martirosyan (ARM), Kitts (USA), Michalski (POL), Ruiz (ESP) Aramnau (BLR) and Mastirosjan (AUT) remove these guys, also 2 other guys from Armenia and Belarus (most probably won't go to Tokyo) Nagy will be probably in top 8 ! but what's the loophole , consider that guy from Austria, if he doesn't qualify at 109kg, he simply can try his chance at +109kg and he may qualify because he registered twice in that weight too (which is mandatory to make you eligible) he will be weak in Tokyo at +109kg but at least he will go to Tokyo.
  23. Talakhadze just broke another WR . this time in total 485kg. this is the best total ever in the history of this sport. 222kg Snatch today was also the best snatch ever.
  24. another snatch world record for Talakhadze, well boring news I expect him to break the CJ and total records too. I wonder where is his limit! he rarely misses and lifts anything they put in front of him
  25. 84 men's freestyle quotas 6 5 4 3 2 1 Russia has a very good chance to make its team complete in Bulgaria. things won't be easy for USA, 65kg will be a hell of a competition. lots of big names still remaining.
