  1. Interestingly, Porinio has been doing all his WC announcing from his basement in Sun Valley.
  2. Hope Porino is the main analyst, and Ligety has a more secondary role.
  3. There might be an issue with paying the $5/month fee. I think you would need a USD credit card. But can't say for certain.
  4. The one question I have yet to see answered, with the streaming world feed, will Peacock use OBS announcers or NBC's, or none? For the US-based international sports fan, Peacock's Olympic coverage is the best thing since well, the Triplecast.
  5. Also ABC, with the 1980 vs. ice hockey game.
  6. 1976 Innsbruck. Men's Downhill was a classic that's never been equalized, IMO.
  7. I don’t think there is any worry that USA will have any biathlon breakthrough. Until ski mountaineering debuts next time, it will stay the only Winter Games sport where US has never medaled. The thing though is in the last Olympic cycle, tv coverage of biathlon in the US has increased maybe 100 fold and Its unfortunate that we are back to just streaming coverage.
  8. Agree too. But if it goes, It would seem as though IBU would replace it with something else (super sprint, shortened individual?), not just willingly give up 2 sets of Olympic medals.
  9. Funny, The USA TV biathlon commentator frequently says the individual is kept around because it's the oldest event, going back to the origins of the sport. During yesterday's race, he and his commentating partner were describing the layout of the first Olympic biathlon course in 1960. It was one loop only, 4 shooting stops along the way with differing distances and greater penalty minutes for a bad miss. Agree, it's not like it needs an extra venue or anything, and they need events anyway to keep the Winter Games calendar full. Plus we don't always get to dictate the Olympic TV program.
  10. 3 medals in FS to be exact with the 1976 one. That third one though caused a lot of controversy at the time in the USA.
  11. Rome 1960 Olympic discus silver medallist dies at age of 85 (insidethegames.biz)
  12. And to answer the original question, I pick with a decent shot in women's curling.
  13. Would seem ice dance would knock Georgia down. Can they get above last in that phase? Although I guess is favored for silver, the US nationals left me underwhelmed. For Romania, if they made it in bobsled, what would be the liklihood of having your only Winter Games medals be in bobsled, 54 or 58 years apart.
  14. Did Luan Jujie ever win anything after she switched nationalities?
  15. If it's anyone else now, I'd bet on Holdener. She had 2 great first runs in the last 2 races. Plus, what a story it would be if she finally won her first slalom.
  16. What more could we ask for than the two best going at it. Which is what the Olympics should be.
  17. Good point, but he'll likely go to Worlds this year and 4Cs, if he wants to. Plus, he's now the favorite for the US title, if not next year, certainly before 2026.
  18. It seems Clare Egan is participating in an altitude camp in Antholtz, Italy. She is pre-qualified for the Games. And the US is entered for now in the Mixed Relay. Olympians to race at Oberhof World Cup this weekend (teamusa.org)
  19. Juri Tamm Bronze Hammer 1980 and 1988 then 5th Hammer 1992 26th Hammer 1996 First Sedykh, then Tamm 2 of the 3 Hammer medalists in 1980 and 1988 pass away 8 days apart. Orlando Martinez Gold Boxing Bantamweight 1972. also competed 1968 and 1976.
  20. Interesting speculaton yesterday before the votes were counted. Why the election could impact Canadian Olympians | CBC Sports
  21. Over the years, I have thought about Ivan Patzaichn for an interesting fact - He was one of just 6 men, I believe, who won a gold medal in both 1980 and 1984.
  22. I just finished watching the group final (not an event I would normally prioritize to watch live, as I had W Basketball, W Volleyball and W Sprint and Omnium to watch instead). I can't speak for the judging, but boy, the joy and hugging of the Bulgarian women on the victory stand was a sight to behold. Congratulations ! \
  23. I was there in 1984, luckily I had relatives who let me stay with them. If I remember right, the top priced tickets for track and other popular sports were around $95. ,
  24. Athletics W PV Katie Nageotte winning it the hard way. (Because of all the early misses, it offered a good example to explain to my wife the tie-breaker rules for vertical jumps.) Breathtaking women's 4x4 Cycling Track, A great last North American night from Kelsey Mitchell and Jennifer Valente to end things. Basketball 3x3 for the women, and great to see beat for gold. Handball, Volleyball, winning 2 golds 30 minutes apart. Great Overall 6 medals for in team sports. Equestrian, Jessica Springsteen and the team wimnning silver. Rhythmic Gymnastics, Group and Linoy Ashram winning gold. Wrestling: Gable Dan Steveson winning one for the ages. Modern Pentathlon a 2 for 2. Handball, as above a 2 for 2. Rowing: A and Gold. Artistic Gymnastics. Suni Lee and Jade Carey stepping up. Fencing Lee Kiefer. Canoe Nevin Harrison.
