Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. Deividas Margevičius - Butterfly swimmer, has retired today. He's the 100m and 200m butterfly national record holder and he qualified twice to the Olympics with the Lithuanian 4x100m Medley relay. With this, Lithuania no longer has a dedicated butterfly specialist, so full focus will probably be on qualifying a freestyle relay, since no juniors or youth athletes are prioritising butterfly either.
  2. All our teams are still in it. First time in history that we've sent such a huge team. Men's single sculls Men's pair Men's double sculls Men's four Men's quadruple sculls Women's quadruple sculls Five of these boats are capable of fighting for Olympic qualification, so it's going to be nice seeing how they'll do in the next few years. The women's quadruple sculls is on their first ever official race together, so they'll need time to mold, men's pair and men's four are still very young boats, but in good position to garner more experience. Since all of our best women right now are all in on the new quadruple project, I'd imagine that we'll form a women's double and single sculls from our fairly talented youth rowers to send an even bigger team moving forward.
  3. So I thought I could do a top 10 like @OlympicIRL and immediately got worried about the lack of different sports that I passionately care for. 1. Athletics 2. Swimming 3. Rowing 4. Canoeing-Sprint 5. Modern Pentathlon and I can only imagine how highly these are influenced by the fact that we're good at these in Lithuania, but they're also fairly easy for me to follow. To fill out the top 10, I'd have to say: 6. Cycling-Track (with Krupeckaitė retiring, my interest somewhat fell off) 7. Beach Volleyball 8. Sailing 9-10. I have nothing here, so I can either say basketball and football, since I used to watch them and like them when I was young, or volleyball since I understand what is going on after watching Haikyuu
  4. I wonder if it will test me on how old and resistant to change I became over the years
  5. Going to go on a quick flight to Australia to make my registration eligible.
  6. Earlier today I saw that her relatives were flying to see her since she was in a bad condition, but I thought that she would pull through just like every time :/ End of an era On the other hand, The Crown will probably peak nr. 1 on Netflix again.
  7. Can they please stop with so many of these shit decisions? Can't somebody put a foot down?
  8. That's his first defeat in how long?
  9. That is awesome that our swimming reached such a level that we can be competitive in relays with countries like Italy, Hungary, Japan. Our boys won the 2nd heat of 4x200 Freestyle, will have to wake up again to see if they'll hang on to a medal
  10. Like for real, how can this group even exist? Group B: France [#4 World rankings] Slovenia [#5] Lithuania [#8] Germany [#11] Hungary [#43] Bosnia & Herzegovina [#46] A [#2, 16, 25, 36, 37, 52] C [#9, 10, 21, 32, 45, 48] D [#6, 12, 13, 35, 42, 47] That's some horrid balancing right there, at least exchanging Germany with the third best team from group A would give Bosnia and Hungary some feasible chances to survive.
  11. That's why I said two
  12. They were interviewed after the win and kept talking about how their strength is that they're a very good team. But it's basically Popovici dragging two +51s boys with close to WR times
  13. Wow, what a tight race, very glad I woke up for it, happy with the bronze! Even though a lot of countries are missing, this is still valuable since our boys managed to fend off the Italians and Hungarians. Three of them swam under 50s, that's a massive overperformance for two of them, especially since the two guys that had the best time on paper, were the slowest of the four.
  14. If our men's relay gets a medal, I'm not complaining, because then they'll get funding and we need to keep as many of these guys in the sport as possible so that we could qualify freestyle relays to the Olympics.
  15. From the looks of it, I see that these World Junior Championships are going to be even easier than the Europeans. Highly disappointed that we didn't send more swimmers. USA, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, China, Australia missing.
  16. Lithuanian 4x100m Freestyle relay into the final with the second time, only losing out to Romania with Popovici, that's pretty nice
  17. We don't have a single Olympian that has followed through with a music career in Lithuania. Not to mention the fact that the quality of music would be debatable
  18. Yeah, it's weird how one small idea for fun turned into something that nearly reached a decade And on a sports forum of all places
  19. Well, Fomin actually won the super sprint for Lithuania I don't know how much that actually means, junior category and not a single bigger name. I guess it's nice that his form is on the right track.
  20. It's nice that we can open with everybody's favourite - the super sprint Fomin was first in heat 2 and I can't even feel any joy with how passionately I despise this useless discipline
  21. What are the chances that these massive level drops in many events are the first indications of post-pandemic effects on athletes that had to adapt/train less or in worse conditions for a couple of seasons?
  22. Lithuania did surprisingly well with everything that was going on: Artistic Gymnastics 0-1-0 Athletics 1-0-0 Canoe Sprint 1-1-2 Rowing 0-0-1 Swimming 1-0-3 Athletics - easy to say that Alekna saved these championships for our team. Liveta Jasiūnaitė really underperformed when a simple 61 meter throw would've sufficed for a bronze. Other than that, Morauskaitė, Truskauskas, Baikštys, Baikštytė, Petrokaitė, Gudžius, Karinauskaitė, Galvydytė, Zarankaitė completely underperformed. No season bests, no personal bests, not even anything close to their season bests, really a huge shame, especially since 2018 championships were historically successful for our team. Beach Volleyball - for the very first time we had two women teams in a single championship and even though only one team made it into the top 24, both looked rather competitive and only a single match was lost 2:0, every other was 2:1. Cycling Road - Leleivytė was the highlight with her 12th place, finishing with the main group, other than that, not much to talk about. Cycling Track - Really huge underperformance here with Svajūnas Jonauskas and Men's team sprint with 9th place as one of the better results. Nice to see that we're actually trying something for the Olympics, it's the first season since we have a men's team sprint. With women it's no longer possible, since Krupeckaitė was too valuable and nobody can replace her on our team. Olivija Baleišytė finished 6th in elimination race, not much strength left for Omnium, she was injured during the event. Rowing - interesting that the medal came from the team that I least expected it from, it will be interesting to see what they'll do on the world stage. Our women's team finished in 4th, but it was only their second ever competition together, so I have expectations that they'll continue to be a bigger threat with every new challenge under their belt.
  23. It happened so fast feels like it didn't happen at all. Not sure if I like the whole all championships at the same time thing, because you're oversaturated with information and don't really have the time to cherish the victories along the way. If I'm overwhelmed as a Lithuanian fan, I can only imagine how difficult it was for larger countries to keep up with all of their athletes, results, victories and so on.
  24. I completely understood what you wrote, but you completely misunderstood my satire and irony I'm just poking fun with how we can save canoeing even more than its already being 'saved'.
