  1. Good point! Boermans/De Groot is a serious chance that I missed, adding it now. I don't think Stam/Schoon will medal, they are consistently top 8, but I feel like they're just slightly lacking that final edge.
  2. Bonus fun fact: the first gold medal winner will be the 150 th Dutch gold medal at the Olympics. I'll go ahead and predict a total of 10 gold medals, in chronological order: Day 5: Rowing M4x (150!!) Day 6: Rowing M2x, Sailing M skiff Day 7: Luc van Opzeeland (M IQFoil) Day 8: Mathieu van der Poel (M road race), Karolien Florijn (Rowing W1x) Day 11: M team sprint Day 13: Femke Bol (W 400mH) Day 14: Hockey women's team, Harrie Lavreysen (M sprint) What can I say, I'm an optimist and I like Van der Poel, Bol and Lavreysen
  3. With just over 100 days to go I decided to do another medal prediction, but this time on a day to day basis. Day 1 Saturday 27 July (0-1 medals) Road cycling: Ellen van Dijk (W time trial) Day 2 Sunday 28 July (0-2 medals) Mountain bike: Puck Pieterse (W cross country) Swimming: Arno Kamminga or Caspar Corbeau (M 100m breast) Day 3 Monday 29 July (0-1 medals) Swimming: Tes Schouten (W 100m breast) Day 4 Tuesday 30 July (0-1 medals) Judo: Joanne van Lieshout (W -63kg) Day 5 Wednesday 31 July (3-5 medals) Judo: Sanne van Dijke (W -70kg) Rowing: M4x and W4x Swimming: Marrit Steenbergen (W 100m free) and Caspar Corbeau (M 200m breast) Day 6 Thursday 1 August (4-7 medals) Judo: Michael Korrel (M -100kg) and Guusje Steenhuis (W -78kg) Rowing: M2x and W4- Sailing: Duetz/Van Aanholt (W skiff) and Van de Werken/Lambriex (M skiff) Swimming: Tes Schouten (W 200m breast) Day 7 Friday 2 August (2-5 medals) Archery: Mixed team BMX racing: Niek Kimmann or Laura Smulders Judo: Marit Kamps (W +78kg) Rowing: W2- Sailing: Luc van Opzeeland (M IQFoil) Day 8 Saturday 3 August (3-5 medals) Athletics: Mixed 4x400m relay Road cycling: Mathieu van der Poel (M road race) Rowing: W1x, M1x and M8- Day 9 Sunday 4 August (0-2 medals) Equestrian: Dinja van Liere (dressage) Road cycling: Lorena Wiebes or Demi Vollering (W road race) Day 10 Monday 5 August (0-1 medals) Athletics: Sifan Hassan (W 5000m?) Day 11 Tuesday 6 August (1-2 medals) Sailing: Marit Bouwmeester (W dinghy) Track Cycling: M team sprint Day 12 Wednesday 7 August (0-1 medals) Sailing: Laila van der Meer / Bjarne Bouwer (mixed multihull) Day 13 Thursday 8 August (2-4 medals) Athletics: Femke Bol (W 400mH) Hockey: Men’s team Swimming: Sharon van Rouwendaal (W 10 km open water) Track cycling: Hetty van der Wouw (W Keirin) Day 14 Friday 9 August (2-4 medals) Athletics: Lieke Klaver (W 400m) Breaking: India Sardjoe (W breaking) Hockey: Women’s team Track Cycling: Harrie Lavreysen (M sprint) Day 15 Saturday 10 August (1-3 medals) Athletics: Women’s 4x400m relay and Abdi Nageeye (M marathon) Water polo: Women’s team Day 16 Sunday 11 August (1-2 medals) Athletics: Sifan Hassan (W marathon??) Track Cycling: Harrie Lavreysen (M keirin) Any day (0-2 medals) Surprise medals: preferrably Niels Laros (M 1500m) and W handball or volleyball team (what can I say, the more surprising the better) Total prediction (19-47 medals) +/- 10 golds +/- 11 silvers +/- 12 bronze I feel like the day-by-day version made the numbers too optimistic. Some names I'm thinking more like 'one out of these 4 judoka's will probably win a medal', but it shows as a medal chances on 4 days, instead of just 1 expected medal. Overall I'm a bit more optimistic than the 25 medals I predicted last time, I'll say 30 medals this time!
  4. Marrit Steenbergen improved her 200m medley PB and NR by 0,3s to 2.08,86 yesterday. Also swam a 52,72 100 meter freestyle same day at the Eindhoven Qualification Meet. Only new qualifiers from the Eindhoven Qualification Meet are Tessa Giele (100m butterfly) and Valerie van Roon (50m freestyle).
  5. Heavyweight gymnastics is a hilarious idea, thanks for the laugh And I agree with the reasoning as well.
  6. She medalled in the 50m butterfly on short course last year, so I was already kind of hoping she could take that development into the Olympic distance. Glad to see another Olympic swimmer!
  7. Very happy to see the handball team in the Olympics again! Always a great team to follow along and I hope they have a great tournament!
  8. Thanks for all the great work! I noticed a small mistake on the Netherlands Latest World Championships Medal Count: the bronze medal for Puck Pieterse is registered as Men's Cross Country instead of Women's Cross Country.
  9. Careful study of the past two Olympic Keirin finals shows me a Dutch woman has a 100٪ chance of winning. Easy gold for Van der Wouw
  10. I read in an interview that Annette Duetz from the Dutch 49erFX has actually written her physics master's thesis on the weather and wind in Marseille. They'll have a serious shot at gold this summer and hopefully a medal in both classes 49er and FX!
  11. The Olympic ranking is on the FIVB website instead of the Beach Pro Tour website. Boermans/De Groot are currently the lowest ranked of the three Dutch teams at 19 or 20 I believe, but I'm sure by the time Paris comes around they will pass Immers/Van de Velde and potentially Brouwer/Meeuwsen as well. As long as they stay fit this season...
  12. Seeing this thread again makes me want to speculate. Some interesting candidates for would be Roy van den Berg (track cycling team sprint) and Sharon van Rouwendaal (open water swimming). The TeamNL media has been focussing very much on 'the story behind the medal', so I expect we'll see athletes with an emotional or personal story be given the spotlight. For me the story of Van den Berg and Van Rouwendaal would be the almost nomadic focus on training and performance and that they always give absolutely everything.
  13. What an amazing finish to that 1500 meter! Crazy finish by Beamish!!
  14. I just heard for the first time there will be an indoor European AND World championship in 2025. I was hoping to go to Apeldoorn for the Europeans, but it's going to suck if half of the field will be uncompetitive because there is a World Championship later that month....
  15. Seeing and together on an international relay podium is quite special. Great tournament for as well!
  16. Still training for my first triathlon and I'm really struggling with swimming every week, this isn't going to be as easy as I had hoped. Meanwhile the running is still going well! Ran my second sub-40 10K today: 39:21 in a local event! My PB is still 38:45 from last year, but that was definitely out of reach despite the perfect weather conditions today.
  17. I haven't had much time at home the past few weekends, but this weekend was a great weekend for some sport viewing: Strade Bianche, World Championship Indoor Athletics and PSV-Feyenoord! Looking forward to (highlights from) the first Beach Pro Tour tournament next week, and mostly the week after: Borussia Dortmund - PSV, World Championship Shorttrack, Milan - San Remo and handball champions league (highlights).
  18. Unbelievable solo by Pogacar!! Big congratulations to Skujins as well for winning the mortal men classification.
  19. Nice little course recon from a future Strade Bianche winner
  20. CEV Champions League semi finals Women: Allianz Vero Volley Milano vs. Fenerbahce Oper Istanbul Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul vs. A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano Men: Jastrzebski Wegiel vs. Ziraat Bank Ankara Cucine Lube Civitanova vs Trentino Itas Slight and dominance if I may say so. I was really rooting for Allianz MTV Stuttgart after their 5-set victory in the first game versus Fenerbahce, but they couldn't keep it up in the away game.
  21. Yeah we're looking completely out of our depths versus Germany and Spain, the intensity of the game has increased and it feels like our team can't keep up anymore.
  22. Still 0-0 , but the Dutch have been struggling all game. I don't see us winning this (nor deserving it). Edit: they scored 0-1 basically as I posted this.
  23. Ideas like these just devaluate the titles and competition in other events because of competition inflation. It's happening in all of the sports, but nowhere does more competition actually lead to happier athletes or happier spectators I feel...
