Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. First results out of the Canadian selection. Ted-Jan Bloemen qualified for the men's 5000m (surprise, surprise) and on the women's side Ivanie Blondin, Isabelle Weidemann and Brianne Tutt qualified for the 3000m. Edit: as an FWI, some athletes qualified from previous results before the trials. Alex Boisvert-Lacroix qualified for the men's 500m, Ted-Jan Bloemen qualified in the men's 10000m, Olivier Jean is qualified for the men's mass start, Ivanie Blondin is qualified in the women's 5000m and both Ivanie Blondin and Keri Morrison are qualified for the women's mass start.
  2. Very disappointed, I actually quite liked Chen and felt bad he missed out on 2016 due to the Russian suspension. Just what I deserve for rooting for a Russian weightlifter I guess.
  3. What a ridiculous situation. Those jury members should not be on a jury again. If it snows so badly that track workers can’t keep up then it’s just snowing too much.
  4. I’m holding you to that.
  5. It was actually not a slam dunk, another athlete on the US team (Mia Manganello) is about as good as Carlijn Schoutens in the 3000m. Schoutens was more of a sure thing in the 5000m.
  6. I’ve always felt it was pretty stupid to have higher qualifying standards. They tend to be pretty arbitrary.
  7. Kind of odd, I feel like in the past Speed Skating Canada didn’t have dificult qualifying criteria.
  8. Cruel way for Letita de Jong to be bumped off the team. Still, she is definitively the least deserving of the 11 on the selection matrix. Edit: Also I get Bergsma is going to get to do the 5000m anyway xD
  9. We are pretty dang far from the total from LA. Looking at golds and even ignoring '84 we need eight to have an all time high. That's pretty tough.
  10. Does this result mean Achtereekte and Das are qualified? Edit: to answer my own question, Achtereekte is officially qualified, Das still isn't.
  11. I'm sure Wust and de Jong will have a ton of fun rooming together, too
  12. 31 year old Anice Das wins the 500m and will almost certainly qualify for her first Olympics. Marrit Leenstra is second, Letitia de Jong third.
  13. Today's live stream, women's 500m and men's 10000m: https://nos.nl/livestream/2208775-okt-schaatsen-500-m-v-10-km-m.html
  14. It is a very rich country favored requirement. Not that anyone has ever accused winter sports of being elitist.
  15. This is listed as a requirement to be admited as an ISU member: in existence in the country one or more actively operating natural or artificial ice rinks of a size adequate to practice the respective ISU sport discipline. Because a member needs to control the sport in their country for at least two years before before being admited as a provisional member it would be almost impossible for Ntab to compete for Senegal in 2022.
  16. By ISU rules I don’t believe he can unless an ice rink is built in Senegal.
  17. He looked so nervous. Too bad :/
  18. I mean it’s a bit kore than just that. Everything from the graphics to the camera angles is better than what they have on the world cup. When Canada and the US have their selections we’re going to have a couple cameras and crapy generic graphics.
  19. TV production for this is very good, certainly heads and solders better than the US or Canadian trials for most winter sports (with the exception of the Curling trials for Canada - which is arguably a better event than the Olympic tournament - and the figure skating trials for the US).
  20. Isn't she already qualified for the mass start? She is already number 8 on the list, and 10 go.
  21. Are they going to make Bergsma a reserve again?
  22. My guess is that the other continental quotas will he given out as part of the world surfing games or the tour.
  23. The Netherlands is not going to be anywhere it's once in a generation 2014 performance. Japan is currently the strongest nation on the women's side and will probably win 3 golds (500, 1000, 1500 and team pursuit) and the men's team, while still the best in the world, isn't as dominant as it was in 2014. I'll go on a limb here and say that I'm going to be very surprised if the Dutch get a sweep.
  24. Logo's whatever. It's not really any worse than any of the recent logos. At this point I feel like the "look of the games" maters a lot more. Beijing 2008 had a meh logo but a great look, hopefully 2022 will be the same.
