  1. I mean, it's rugby. Hard to imagine a gayer sport (meant as a compliment xD )
  2. Comfortable victories for Democrats on friendly turf tonight. Abigail Spanberger will be governor of Virginia (Democrats also won the offices of lieutenant governor and attorney general), Mikie Sherrill will be governor of New Jersey and Zohran Mamdani will be the next mayor of New York City. Californians also overwhelmingly approved the new congressional district map that was gerrymandered to favor Democrats.
  3. …none of these offices have anything to do with immigration.
  4. Election day in today. This is an off year election, which means mainly local elections (my ballot here in Washington state was extremely local). The big mayoral election everyone is talking about is New York City, where Zohran Mamdani is expected to win. The big suspense is whether or not he gets over 50% (not important electorally but very important psychologically). Seattle also has a very interesting mayoral race between two Democrats, incumbent mayor Bruce Harrel is being challenged from the left by Katie Wilson. The big events are the gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. It would be a political earthquake if Democrats Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger (both former US House memebers) fail to win. New Jersey, which was unexpectedly close in the 2021 gubernatorial election and the 2024 presidential election, is probably the state to watch tonight.
  5. I do wish that when they made new weight categories they would go back and reset the world record based on the best result for anyone who would qualify for that weight category. We all know why they don't do that though (changing weight categories is a soft way to remove dopers from the record books)
  6. A really fascinating anachronism that arose from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Autonomous_Oblast
  7. Actually won't be able to watch Friday (friends take priority over sports unless it's the Olympics :P ), but if it goes to seven I will try to watch game seven with a friend who's a Dodgers fan. We have a bet on the outcome so it would either be an amazing or terrible experience depending on the outcome xD
  8. I found out he is Afghan on... the BBC. So much for that I guess.
  9. What a dumb thing to do, people tend to notice when weird charges appear on their credit cards >.>
  10. Statement from the IOC: https://www.olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-eb-takes-measures-to-protect-access-for-all-athletes-to-countries-hosting-international-competitions
  11. Yup, despite living in Seattle now :P
  12. The 2031 women's FIFA World Cup, previously awarded to , will now be co-hosted by
  13. I wonder if there was an element of trying out new strategies and also of becoming less predicatble (since traditionally the Canadian men frontrun the relays).
  14. And gold in the men's relay!
  15. One day you’ll be right about one of these
  16. The IOC is "expressing concerns". https://www.olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-statement-on-the-rejection-of-visas-for-the-israeli-delegation-for-the-upcoming-artistic-gymnastics-world-championships-by-the-government-of-indonesia
  17. Listen I'll bet you the price of a roundtrip from Seattle to Birmingham (England, not Alabama) that I can gallivant about there for an entire month without any issue. Everyone is becoming way too soft.
  18. "The Holocaust didn't happen, but it would have been super cool if it did"
  19. World's richest hooligans
  20. That does worry me quite a bit. Trump is completly mercurial so no way to really know what kind of mood he'll be in then (or if he's even still cognizant enough to make decisions by then).
  21. In an incredible show of efficiency, the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches scheduled for Boston have already been moved more than 30km away from the city! Trump is the most effective president ever! (For anyone who doesn't get the joke, Gillette Stadium, where the "Boston" World Cup matches are scheduled to be played, is famously not anywhere near Boston)
  22. This is basically in line with my thinking on this. On the one hand, this sets a really bad precedent, and it isn't acceptable for an entire country's delegation to be denied visas for a world championship. On the other hand, Israel is real lucky they haven't been banned or made "neutral" by any IF in the past two years.
  23. Matches against the last ranked team don't count due to withdrawing.
  24. Jamie Korab, a 2006 Olympic gold medalist in curling, has been elected as an MHA (member of the provincial lower house) in Newfoundland & Labrador for the Liberal party.
  25. Are we sure Trump knows the difference between India and Indonesia? That could be quite funny indeed.
