  1. I actually think it makes a lot of sense to limit access to women's sports from female athletes with DSDs, but for the love of God can we stop pretending these athletes are men or that they are, as individuals, doing anything wrong?
  2. "Biology is an exact science" is such a funny line. Sex isn't a binary, which apparently makes some people extremely uncomfortable. Everyone has some amount of male and female sexual characteristics, and some variation there is completly normal. But I do find it pretty disturbing to call someone who, as far as we know, has every major female sexual organs and has been considered a woman "not female" just because she happens to have DSD. Because she's certainly not a male either.
  3. Is there any evidence Pan is suspect, other than him being Chinese? My understanding is that he hasn’t ever tested positive for anything and wasn’t involves in the TMZ scandal.
  4. Yup. gifted the gold to there. I am happy the referee didn’t let him get away with those two blatant penalties just because he was ahead with a few seconds left.
  5. Well lets not dwelve too deeply in how got it's basketball team :P
  6. They showed Micheal Phelps’ reaction to Léon Marchand’s 200m butterfly win and he looked *so* happy. It’s been fun seeing Phelps he such a big fan of Marchand.
  7. Heh, the NBC comentators don't seem to have any issues with how is being scored xD
  8. Dissapointing results for Tammara Thibeault, losing a close 3-2 split decision against Cindy Ngamba. I actually don't think the result was unfair (to me this was a fight that could have reasonably been given either way), just an unfortunate draw for Thibeault.
  9. I would not be surprised if Ngamba ends up winning this tournament. She’s been fancied as an up and comer.
  10. Tamara Thibault lost a very close fight to Ngamba. It was a really close bout that could have gone either way.
  11. Technically the factoid is a little wrong without the caveat that it is the same finals lineup, since the prelims swimmers were different in Tokyo and in Paris (and if we're going to be super pedantic Guy and Dean switched spot, so it isn't exactly the same finals lineup either). Still extremely impressive, and unprecedented in a summer sport, to have the same four guys win the relay twice in a row.
  12. The men’s and women’s triathlon are on for tomorrow, they won’t be duathlons and they *will* do the swimming leg in the 💩 river!
  13. I guess one medal tomorrow would be a relative success? My biggest interests tomorrow re: team Canada will be the men's 200m butterfly, both the women's and mixed doubles matches in tennis and Tammara Thibeault's first fight. And of course the women's soccer team.
  14. You can't change the scoring system to avoid corruption, you have to take fighting corruption seriously as an organization. The IBF was incredibly corrupt, there is literally no scoring system that would have changed that. The Task Force has no power, they can't fight corruption. The only solution is that we need an organization that organizes boxing that is serious about fighting corruption, we need a way to evaluate the accuracy and the bias of judges, we need clear scoring criteria (and no those criteria cannot be "who punched who more" if we want the sport to thrive) and judging at the Olympics has to be a reward for being among the best judges in the world. But at the end of the day boxing is a judged sport, there will always be some subjectivity. Which is why we need good and impartial judges and a lot more communication. Sports like surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and freestyle skiing have even vaguer judging criteria than boxing, yet they generate a lot less controversy because the judges take their jobs seriously and communicate freely with athletes and coaches about what the criteria are and why they made certain decisions.
  15. The old scoring system sucked *and* didn't solve any of the controversies, lets not get back to that nonsense please. Boxing is legitimately one of the hardest sport to judge accurately. The only way Olympic boxing can be fair is to have a very competent organization that takes officiating very seriously in charge. Changing the scoring system so it becomes "fencing with fists" won't help and it will create bad fights.
  16. These are really good Olympics so far. Obviously there are some issues, but it feels so good to have crowds again. Like, it’s good. is doing a good job as hosts, team is performing well so far. We are so back after what were, for me, the worst Olympics of my life so far (Beijing 2022).
  17. Quite a good day overall I would say. Dissapointing day in judo and in volleyball (though, tbh, our men's volleyball is sort of a hot mess and probably lucky just to qualify xD ), otherwise I think everything was at or above expectations.
  18. building up a real dynasty in the men's 4x200m free.
