Qualification Tracker

  1. Even better stat: only one athlete that doesn't speak German as their first language has ever won luge gold at the Olympics (Vera Zozulya).
  2. It appears there was a mistake on the FIS site. Canada has accepted three women's moguls quotas, not one. ...or alternatively Freestyle Canada didn't realize that they could nominate 32 athletes (the qualification document is a bit confusing) and fixed their mistake xD
  3. Croatia had some rotten luck this year
  4. What's kind of shocking is that Canada only accepted 30 quotas even though they can accept 32 (thought they are maxed out on the men's side).
  5. is sort of on another level of wanting desperately to avoid tourists. I get wanting to turn down continental quotas or base quotas for uncompetitive athletes, but it really annoys me when there are X spots available in an event, an athlete is in the top X eligible athletes and their NOC just says "nah, not good enough". It just makes the event worse.
  6. Still tickles me that the Netherlands' 100th Olympic gold medal was won in... snowboarding. Of all sports.
  7. Brace yourself, the US also accepted a men’s ski cross quota.
  8. Some quota news out of : max quotas accepted in ski cross, one quota rejected in men’s and women’s half-pipe, one quota rejected in women’s slopestyle/big air. So currently Canada has accepted 10 women’s quota and 11 men’s quota, with moguls and aerials still pending. Canada needs to decline four quotas across these four events.
  9. I actually think freestyle skiing and snowboarding don’t make much sense as disciplines. I would personally separate them four ways: freestyle skiing (moguls and aerials), alpine snowboarding, cross (snowboardcross and ski cross, name needs workshoping) and park & pipe (half-pipe, big air, slopestyle).
  10. has declined one quota in women’s slopestyle/big air. All other quotas have been accepted except in PGS, where no action has been taken yet. will get the quota. @dcro is first alternate. confirmed all their quotas, including the men’s PGS one.
  11. And this is exhibit 1000 why the quota limit per country for freestyle skiing should be 40 rather than 32. The US doesn’t actually want to decline those quotas but they have to.
  12. Those are awful high expectations given the state of the world. If Beijing is remembered for hosting games that weren’t a complete disaster then they will have done a great job (see also: Tokyo last year).
  13. Dai Dai N’tab, Beau Snellink, Melissa Wijfje and Merel Conijn will be on-site alternates for the team in Beijing. They can be substituted until the day of the first race for their respective gender.
  14. How about Duplantis in 2021 and Van Der Poel in 2022? :P
  15. Two big omissions on the men's side: Alex Boisvert-Lacroix and Vincent De Haître (though I really don't think there was anywhere to put De Haître on the team based on how the rest of Canada's middle distance skaters performed this season).
  16. No, it looks like they added two quotas beyond the limit of 105. There is precedent for this (Canada got 3 men's host quotas outside the normal qualification rules in 2010).
  17. Looks like they gave 3 host quotas.
  18. Team USA Men Pilots: Hunter Church, Frank Del Duca Push athletes: Hakeem Abdul Saboor, Kris Horn, Jimmy Reed, Carlo Valdes, Charlie Volker, Josh Williamson Women Pilots: Kaillie Humphries, Elena Mayers Taylor Push athletes: Lauren Gibbs, Aja Evans
  19. Steve Omischl had the exact same thing happen to him in the qualifying round of the aerials in Turin 2006, but otherwise I can't think of another time this happened. Edit: found it:
  20. I got a deep cut for you: Igor Tikhomirov, bronze medallist at the 1988 Olympics in the épée team event, won a world championship bronze medal for Canada in individual épée back in 2006.
  21. Would be an upset if they beat and but it's definitively possible. Romania's progress in bobsleigh has been really impressive over the past couple years. Def feels like they could become medal contenders soon.
  22. No, Sherraine Schalm has six individual world cup wins and a season title. Canada also has a couple individual world championship medals.
  23. Every one of these countries except for have at least one legitimate medal shot. are basically 100% guaranteed to win at least one medal (I think all are more likely than not to win at least one gold, too). The other countries on the list depend on one of a handful of medal chances to pan out.
  24. I'm sure nobody in Australia would mind if Serbia banned unvaccinated players xD
  25. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-60014059 The three judge federal judge panel upheld the minister's decision to cancel Djokovic's visa. The only possible appeal is to the high court, but there would be no time to appeal to the high court before the Australian Open.
