  1. Yes, it was an average 6.0-6.5, they gave her 7’s. The most wronged was the New Zealand girl (not Mew Jensen, my bad) who should have taken 12, but again not everything goes as one may think.
  2. Congratulations? She was put in the final by the judges. Truly disgusting, how her final dive earned the same score as Pellacani who actually deserved that score. Both Mew Jensen and Mendoza were robbed with that last dive, as was Clare Cryan all through the phase.
  3. Indeed. Still, the “additional” quotas will depend on how many divers “double up” in other events. However, I’m in doubt regarding the quotas to be distributed next year in Doha. The document states: “the twelve (12) highest placing athletes”. I think it means, athletes advancing to the final already qualified by other event, will leave some extra space for the additional places to those advancing to semis.
  5. Oh, I’m not blaming him entirely, like I said he’s talented and should he continues improving, a likely contender for the medals. this time around however, the jury did give him a little bonus when he nailed the dive, just like they did with Tocci, but hopes he recovers in time so we can see him in the Olympic final.
  6. Wow, what a competition. I’m not sure what’s the hype with Jules Bouyer; he’s not bad, but too inconsistent and in my opinion, over rewarded by the jury. It was heartbreaking to watch Lithuanian divers with those failed dives, but I hope they don’t quit and try to improve their skills. Finally Ruvalcaba with a chance to go the Olympics for the Dominican Republic, failing to do so with Mexico, but at last, he polished his skills and is showing some good work.
  7. Indeed… probably main sites could be Grenoble/Nice/Lyon.
  8. I can’t wait to see the men’s 3m individual… this is going to be quite costly for some talented divers.
  11. Heartbreak for the Dutch diver, being cut by 0.25
  12. Nobody is talking about the progress of Spain: from almost being invisible to actually starting to have some interesting and promising divers Edit: and I think Arturo Miranda may have to do with it, if he’s now coaching/assisting the Spanish team.
  13. But if I’m not mistaken, last time, at least for America, some individual silver medalists at Lima got the continental quotas due to the event winners already having qualified at Worlds. Did the qualification document change the wording this time? I don’t recall so, which may again be the cause for some over representation.
  14. Because it’s the one giving Olympic quotas as of this week.
  15. In reality this tournament serves to squeeze Latin American immigrants in the US from their salaries, as the level in this confederation is quite low, as the results of their teams in Qatar show. Honestly, besides the obvious improvement of Canada, every other team has not grown in the last 8 years, with Mexico being the most obvious example, mainly because the football federation is under the control of the largest TV group in the Hispanic world.
  16. I agree with you, but I think USA is in the contender group with the European teams and Malaysia, plus Canada if they decide to show up in Doha and their divers are fit. Very surprised by the Polish pair, they are talented and composed, and with more competition they could indeed be next year in Paris.
  18. Wow judges really wanted the French pair to move into the final in women’s 3m synchro. Their third dive saw one of them forming a perfect L-shape into the pool, still received a 6.0 note:”; not to mention that same round China was given 8.0 notes with an awful performance with no synchro at all and one of the divers overrotating.
  20. I think event he judges still are trying to figure out how the scoring works. Before the score was only a disguise to the preference given to each team, disregarding any actual difference from one performance to other. Now I’m not buying that a team that barely qualified for the final suddenly improved so much as to actually medal, while the other competitors dropped significantly. It’s good that the system has changed, but way far from a fair shot to all.
  21. Not really, the US just pull themselves together after awful compulsory dives, while Orozco and Agundez throw their medal in the 4th round; if the Japanese and Canadian pairs hadn’t failed a five each, Mexico would have ended 6th.
  22. In Mexico’s case it’s not surprising that level has dropped, mostly due to the fact there is no federation, and thus no public funding (mostly due to corruption) and an actual training program, with most of the divers having to return to their local clubs/college/associations to continue their training. Still, the talent is there and with some new young blood, probably next cycle will see them getting better results.
  23. Sadly no, it’s still a matter of the rest depending on Chinese underperfoming + judges stop being so lenient with them. GB is right now the only one with a solid program that could challenge them in some point, while the rest of the world is competing for a chance in the podium.
  24. Awful judging during women’s 10m synchro prelims. To me, it seemed like only after round 3 they decides to actually observe the executions.
