  1. not just rankings man - even match play - it is like deciding a tennis set with just 3 points....
  2. Mexico already eliminated - they reached the gold medal match of the world cup event yesterday..
  3. heavily windy...low scores across the board. Turkey actually has one of the best scores across all matches - home advantage i guess...
  4. Great performance by Atanu nonetheless to reach the Bronze match. Cant do much when the Korean top seed rattles off 9 tens in a row at the other end...
  5. World Archery did reply to me a couple of days back on twitter than 1 match per round will be shown for the oly qual tournaments....but realistically only time will tell..
  6. Unfortunately, Atanu Das is the only Indian archer to survive into the quarters. Deepika too went down to Italian Sartori. Won't really mind if we can clinch qualification and complete our Archery oly team today !!!
  7. The only surprise for me was that I didn't really see any such stupid news yesterday. Expected to it to be all over the online media yesterday. Guess I overestimated them. May be the Great Indian media is just realizing today that an archery tournament with Oly qualification is even on
  8. 6 of the 8 compound archers survive into the round of 32. Rajat Chauhan missed out in the shoot-off...
  9. looks like it will be Mangal afterall competing in the team events - and there will be no impact on seeding. http://info.ianseo.net/Search/InfoTeam.php?Id=16514 The above link is already updated with the fact that Mangal will be competing in the world cup team event which starts today - and India will retain their 4th seeding despite that. The oly qual tournment, which takes place tomorrow, still has Rahul listed but I guess its just a case of Mangal's name not being updated yet BTW, 4 out of the 7 recurve archers competing today reached the round of 32 (Atanu was already seeded into the round of 32).
  10. India's mixed recurve team of Deepika and Atanu reach the final of Antalya World Cup !!!! They beat Turkey, Russia and Italy on their way to the final...(and for anyone wondering, no this has no impact on Oly qualification)...
  11. Confirmed - India to face Turkey in 1st round of Oly qualifier. The link below shows the first round opponents of all Indians. http://info.ianseo.net/Search/InfoTeam.php?Id=16514
  12. Yeah, 4th overall for Das which is excellent, 17th for Talukdar, 58th for Rahul and a very poor 80th for our individual quota winner Mangal Champia. Reasonable draw i'd say in the oly qualifier. Turkey or Thailand in Rd1, Malaysia or Ukraine in QF and mostly Russia in semi. Mexico, Germany, Japan, France, Britain all in the other half. Also, I believe Rahul will have to play the oly qualifier despite Mangal being selected for Rio ahead of Rahul. Not sure about the rules here but I beleive that since seeding is based on score achieved by Rahul, it will have to be Rahul who participates. And haven't seen any case in a world cup where a country has selected 4th place finisher ahead of the 3rd place finisher for the team event. Of course, this could be a bit tricky. If the federation ruling is that no matter who wins quota, Mangal will be going to Rio then it means Rahul's motivation to perform in the qualifier goes down a notch. This is the disadvantage of jumping the gun and holding trials and declaring a team before even the quota is won. The oly qualifier is on Thursday, start to finish, hopefully AAI declares something by then such as, say, a re-trial between just Mangal and Rahul.
  13. What a match !!! And Saina finally has her 10th SS title. Took a while but just in the nick of time for Rio !!
  14. Well the seedings greatly determine the draw. There will be only 13 seeds and 13 groups at Rio. That means that the top 2 seeds, and one player out of the 3rd and 4th seed depending on the draw, will actually get a bye in the round of 16. So, Bae Yeon Ju, Yamaguchi, Sindhu and possibly even Porntip will be banana peel opponents for the top girls who don't get a bye in the round of 16. And the QF will all be huge matches which can go either way, but the 3 girls with byes in the round of 16 would have had some extra rest (but less match practice). One good thing about Saina not making the top 4 is that she is ensured of not bumping into Tai atleast until the semis. The draw rules ensure that seeds 5-8, which will consist of both Tai and Saina - will all be placed in different quarters. And i agree with your groups 1A and 1, but Tai is definitely now part of 1A, especially after her victory in Indonesia which included wins over all the 3 Chinese. And Koreans will claim that Sung Ji Hyun is also part of 1A, though we Indians always underestimate her a bit due to Saina's dominating record against her.
  15. Tomm is actually just a practice session. The qualification will take place on Monday which will determine the draw. And the Olympic qualification tournament will be on Thursday - from start to finish. Thus, Thursday is the big day. Not sure it will be telecast though (I remember waking up around 3 am before London to follow the final Oly qual tournament in USA and had to be content with just live scoring) Also, the world cup will essentially be separate from the Oly qualifiers and will continue on throughout the week. Also, http://info.ianseo.net/ is the world archery press site. It is generally much easier to follow as compared to the World Archery main website which looks good but is pretty poor in function.
  16. There is no chance of top 4. I have done the calculations. There are only 2 grand prix gold tournaments between now and Rio, and no super series. Only if Saina wins Australian open and wins BOTH of them, and Okuhara and Intanon either dont play or do badly, can Saina enter top 4. However, the draw of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold tournament is already out and Saina is not in it. Not 100% sure but don't think she can enter now. Only way Saina can get to top 4 seeds in Rio is if China pick Shixian over Yihan and Saina reaches world no. 5.
  17. That was just way too good. 21-8 21-12 against Yihan Just astonishing play by Saina. She's peaking at the right time
  18. I think Paes needs to play the Davis Cup, if for nothing else, then so that Bopanna/Paes can get atleast one match together under their belt before Rio...
  19. Guys, chill !!! Paes/Bopanna will go and Sania/Bopanna will go. The current storm created by Bopanna is just to ensure he gets Sania in mixed. He wants an assurance that Paes cant later re-open the XD debate after Wimbledon. The MD entry has to be submitted within the next few days whereas the XD entry can be changed uptil about Aug 9. So, Bopanna doesnt want a situation where he agrees to play with Paes now and once MD entry is confirmed and he cant do anyhting, Paes turns around and starts shouting that he should be going in XD as well. In effect, Bopanna is doing pretty much exactly what Leander did in 2012. In London, Paes used his top-10 ranking to essentially say - OK, I'll play with Vishnu and let Bopanna/Bhupathi play together provided Sania is mine. Rohan is now doing the same thing - using his top-10 ranking to say that I'll play with Paes provided Sania is mine. Is is sad?? Of course...but the floodgates were opened in 2012 and they aren't closing now. All 3 players - Paes, Bhupathi, Bopanna - have all, in both London and Rio, just taken a stance which benefits THEM the most, given the power they held based on rankings. Nobody here is a saint !!! And have to say, am sad to see the vitriol directed towards Bopanna on this forum by some commenters. Yes, he is not Paes. Yes, he is not an 18-time grand slam champion. But he is a good player, top-10 in the world at the moment, grand slam and year-end championships finalist. He deserves our respect. Just because a Sachin Tendulkar exists, doesn't mean a Ravindra Jadeja doesn't deserve respect.
  20. Badminton Seedings will be as per ranking of Jul 21. However, getting to 8th ain't gonna help Jwala/Ashwini, Only 4 seeds in doubles. http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file.aspx?id=634112&dl=1 Singles events are also currently scheduled to have only 13 seeds each (41 players in each singles event as per http://bwfbadminton.com/2016/05/25/trio-get-rio-2016-tripartite-places/ which equates to 13 seeds)
  21. Federer has declared at some point in the recent past that he will be playing with Hingis. In fact, he was even trying to get Hingis out of retirement for London XD. Nothing is of course for certain, especially with Federer's recent injury, but pretty good chance he'll play. If he feels 3 events are too much, he may even choose XD over MD. And seedings will not be decided on current rankings, but qualification will. Seedings will be based on latest available rankings at time of draw. So a lot can change between now and then, especially at Wimbledon.
  22. Seeding will actually not be determined by current rankings but the latest available rankings at the time of the draw. With wimbledon left, the rankings could change a lot. However, qualification will depend on current rankings only...
  23. u sure he has placed men's doubles on higher priority over mixed ??
  24. Not sure about anything. I have just listed the best possible pairs based on rankings. Zverev/Petkovic unlikely to qualify...essentially implies there is unlikely to be a German XD pair in Rio
  25. Seppi-Erani unlikely to qualify based on rankings...realistically there may not be any italian pairs
