  1. Another decent day overall, slightly overshadowed by the fact that we suffered our biggest disappointment of the Olympics thus far. Illya Kharun, won Canada’s only medal of the day with a bronze in the men’s 200m butterfly, with a HUGE NR of 1:52.80, taking almost a second off his previous mark. Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Medvedev for the first time in eight meetings in the men’s singles round of 16 in tennis, then later later teamed up with Dabrowski in the mixed doubles quarterfinals to defeat Gauff/Fritz. Women’s soccer team beat Colombia 1-0, off another goal by Gilles to advance to the quarterfinals, despite facing a lot of adversity with the drone scandal. Canada defeated China in waterpolo to pretty much keep their quarterfinal hopes alive. Tyler Mislawchuk and Charles Paquet finishing 8th and 13th in the men’s triathlon. And finally, our women’s 3x3 team demolishing China 21-11 to improve to 2-0. As for the disappointments, we’ll nothing will beat Tammara Thibeault losing to Ngamba by split decision during the women’s 75kg round of 16. She hadn’t lost a match the entire Olympic cycle. Jill Moffatt/Jenny Casson failing to advance to the final in women’s lightweight double sculls (and well off an advancing time) was another, they were medal contenders. Caeli McKay/Kate Miller finished 4th in women’s 10m synchro, and while it is a good result for them it’s now Caeli’s 2nd in a row. Felix Dolci had a nightmare of a day in the men’s all-around, falling numerous times on the bar to finish in 20th. Leylah Fernandez/Dabrowski losing to Andreeva/Schnaider in straight sets in the women’s doubles round of 32, including getting bageled in the 2nd set. Lastly, Melissa Humana-Parades/Brandie Wilkerson losing to Esmee/Zoe in 3 in women’s beach volleyball group stage action
  2. Good night! Back up in an hour and a half I’ll do the rundown of the day of Canadian action as soon as I wake up.
  3. Sanford gets Abdullaev in the quarterfinals of men’s 63.5kg No medal for him unfortunately Edit: Jinx works AGAIN!
  4. Can anyone do the calculations and tell me what needs to do to avoid in their half? Or is there no chance?
  5. Serbia, Spain, Australia, South Sudan.
  6. Why would there need to be a backup? It’s not like the triathlon, the race walk will take place tomorrow
  7. I suggest you wear a toque! So that you can sneak wireless earbuds underneath obviously, and at the very least get to listen to the action.
  8. OK, I know we had a decent day today, but I still can’t believe Thibeault lost Ngamba is a tricky boxer to face but still… FYI she’s turning pro after this, but she hasn’t ruled out a return to amateur boxing for LA 2028, hopefully we’ll be seeing her make another run.
  9. Going to sleep after I’ve finished the athletics prediction contest, and waking up at 10:00pm. Fingers crossed for Dunfee!
  10. / means that the match has yet to be played and the winner will either take on one or the other Stupid scheduling to be honest, only having 3 of the 4 quarterfinals on the same day.
  11. Poppy cheering on Crozon (her mom) gets my vote for the gold medal for the most heartwarming moment of the day https://www.instagram.com/p/C-GCcyqNuVH/?igsh=NTc3MzVzOHl2cWdl
  12. I’m late (again), but congratulations on your first Olympic medal in Paris and a gold at that @konig @MatiReimundo @LDOG @NMQ
  13. Oops yep, my brain is clearly not working very well after being awake all of these hours
  14. I’m glad to be proven wrong That still doesn’t change the fact that his season has been poor up until this point for the most part (besides his run in Madrid, partly due to walkovers although he played really well against clay court specialist Ruud)
  15. @Vektor has he specifically stated in any Hungarian interviews that his goal was to medal or contend for a medal?
  16. Worth noting that only Auger-Aliassime, Siniakova, and Machac are the only three still alive in more than one event.
  17. Little update on the draw. Mixed Doubles Semifinals Dabrowski/Auger-Aliassime v. Machac/Siniakova Schuurs/Koolhof v. Xinyu/Zhang The one team I didn’t want to face Women’s Doubles Quarterfinals Muchova/Noskova v. Hsieh/Tsao Paolini/Errani v. Boulter/Watson Bucsa/Sorribes Tormo v. Kichenok/Kichenok Andreeva/Schnaider v. Krejcikova/Siniakova Women’s Singles Semifinals Iga Swiatek v. Qinwen Zheng Donna Vekic v. Anna Schmiedlova Men’s Singles Quarterfinals Felix Auger-Aliassime v. Casper Ruud Carlos Alcaraz v. Tommy Paul Novak Djokovic v. Stefanos Tsitsipas Alexander Zverev v. Lorenzo Musetti Men’s Doubles Semifinals Ebden/Peers v. Paul/Fritz / Evans/Murray Pavlasek/Machac v. Krajicek/Ram
  18. Completely agree, I either hope rules get put into place or it gets removed from the Olympic program entirely. So many athletes are getting robbed from victory because of corruption. Not complaining about Thibeault’s loss by the way, I just finished watching it on replay, the bout could’ve gone either way and I wouldn’t have been surprised with the outcome.
  19. Auger-Aliassime plays his mixed doubles semifinal right after his men’s singles quarterfinal Horrific scheduling.
  20. Rick Tocchet announced as one of assistant head coaches for the 4-Nations Face Off! @Topicmaster1010 https://www.instagram.com/p/C-GScq3Sru6/?igsh=ZXhibWJ0MmZ1YnMz
  21. I mean Reddit is, well Reddit… They’re not wrong though, what he did was disgusting, and deserves a bigger punishment for what he did than what he actually got. I mean, 1 year is ridiculously light. I think he’s remorseful for what he did and I don’t think he’ll ever do it again (at least hopefully not) but that doesn’t excuse that he did do it. Nothing against you guys personally of course, I’ve noticed that the only people going lighter on him with the replies are Dutch. Coincidence? Probably not.
