Zuk
Davidova was the only one with a somewhat similar skiing time.
Well, both Zuk & Davidova came straight from the Olympics so it's no wonder they were a class above the rest skiing-wise.
Zuk will become a regular on the World Cup next season and well, she's viewed as the biggest talent in Polish biathlon EVER She became the first Polish WJC since 1973.

No way Stadlober makes up the lost ground...

How did the German lose that?

Somehow she didn't look tired when she won the GS?
The lack of flow as you say suggests the snow is the main culprit IMO. Hirscher was 0,63 back when he went out too so there's more to the fact two biggest slalom favs struggled in their best event.

Mikaela’s 3 slalom runs at these Olympics were so disappointing what the hell what she doing
Could be the snow conditions? I mean Hirscher also hardly impressed in the slalom here.

Fun fact, there was a whole bunch of Gasienica-Daniels competing in 50s and 60s.
Gasienica ("caterpillar" in English) is a very popular name in the Podhale region where almost all of our nordic/alpine skiers come from.

I agree, although Germany being so bad in speed skating and cross-country (as well as swimming and distance running) is a very good sign for the clean sport in Germany. Impossible to be world class in any of those sports without doping, so i am rather happy about Germany being so bad in those sports.
Paul Biedermann surely crumbled when they banned these fancy swimming suits In cross country you need to put some skiers with asthma so they can compete with Norwegians! Everyone knows having asthma is a huge advantage in endurance sports!

Lee never stood a chance vs Kodaira based on season form.
Erbanova profited from being in the same heat as Kodaira and also finishing on the inside lane.

Would be great for the sport, if an idol like her continues to compete. Speed skating is losing more and more popularity, so an international star like here can only help the sport. Would be absolutely sensational if she would win a medal in mass start.
It rather speaks how badly the German speed skating has fallen off in this decade when there is no one who can dislodge a woman old enoigh to be a grandmother from the Olympic line-up. It's very un-German like to lose the plot in an event which used to bring you so much success.

Then 400m in athletics has the same thing.
But there are heats in the 400m so you can work yourself to a favorable lane.
The decision to hold only one heat in the 500m is downright stupid and pathetic. I believe there will be enough controversy either here or in Beijing that they will change it back to the old format.
Admittedly some of the bigger guys like Poland's Artur Was said they prefer to finish on the outside bc the inner lane becomes too tight and throws him to the outside. However I don't see such problems for the women.
Kodaira will finish on the outside lane while Lee Sang-Hwa on the inside, tell me that's a coincidence?

Nothing and nobody is a lock, even without DNF's. People can make mistakes, others can have the run of their life.
Vonn's won the first training run so I must be getting something right

I believe Ledecka said she won't take part in the DH.
Anyone who saw the test event last year should realize the DH course is basically a Lake Louise Vol. 2. Vonn and Goggia are effectively locked for a 1-2 finish barring a DNF.

Although you have to remember Christie has been a lot more successful at winning medals outside the Olympics then Ennis was
It sure does help Christie's event offers more medal chances and she didn't have a pregnancy pause

Most long-time biathlon fans would love to see Makarainen on the podium instead of Domracheva who's had her moment in the sun 4 years ago already.

I hope Wierer hangs on for a medal!
-
The BBC hype was downright crazy for Christie. You'd think they want to model her as the Winter Games version of Jessica Ennis.

The Evil Empire wins again - even with only three athletes performing.
Weng and Oestberg are trying very hard who's the biggest Norwegian flop during these Games.

It's a second gold for Kamila Zuk
Btw, Dorothea Wierer is the only athlete who won three individual golds at a single WJC (2011). So Zuk can make history tomorrow by joining her
