    Blashko has some hidden ski speed nobody's paying attention to IMO. Merkushyna was rarely used during these champs IIRC? She could have profited from being fresher than some others. And there were no Semerenko sisters in this relay which is even more impressive. Biggest shock is how slow France was. 0+5 was joint best shooting score and they finished 20 secs behind Poland who had Maka & Zuk taking ages on the range!

    Preuss wasn't dead, Pihdrushna had to make up over 5 secs to her after the shooting and wore herself out doing so. Preuss held back knowing she'd have advantage at the finish. Isn't how this works in cycling too? Guy catches up to leader, you think it's gonna be even finish and then the leader pushes big and leaves the catcher all for dead anyway. The same happened here.

    They don't have individual stars but they know they strenght lies in the team. Same as these 4x100 Japanese relays that always hoover around Top 5-6 in athletics World Champs or Olympics and even get a medal when one of the big teams drops the baton

    Picking Hettich over "world class" Hammerschmidt as you've described her probably indicates how badly Hammerschmidt has tailed off. Can't use the injury excuse anymore. But who would have been the next in line? Weidel? Grandma Hildebrand?

    Pihdrushna was dead at the finish just like in the mixed relay. Not much praise for beating a turtle on skis

    Pihdrushna lost the mixed relay medal in slo-mo finish but this time gets bronze. 6th place for Poland with only 52 secs gap is way above expectations!

    I can't see Preuss making up 11 secs to Olsbu. Ukraine vs Belarus for bronze.

    Olsbu wants excitement? Needed penalty loop for that IMO.

    Lien avoids penalty loop so Olsbu should carry the Norwegians to another gold. Minor medals should be interesting. No chance for Poland with Anna Maka on the last leg.

    Given Zuk's terrible shooting in the single mixed relay you can safely count Poland out. And we have the weakest member on the last leg anyway.

    Not so fast. WTA has become very chimeric in recent years. Osaka has all the Big Tech support so she's gonna be sold like a new super star but I don't see such a level of dominance that the likes of Evert, Navratilova or Graf enjoyed before. She is very good on hard courts but clay and grass are not her best surfaces. She hasn't even reached Round 4 in Roland Garros and Wimbledon yet!

    Third DNF for Brignone at these Champs. Officially the biggest disappointement possible.

    Huber takes out the ad banners. Sums up the race so far. The gaps are huge and don't boil well for any excitement in the second run.
