  1. The world championship will decide everything though..
  2. The thread is quite old and is being used from 2016 Rio Olympics. It should be closed and a new tokyo 2020 thread should be started.
  3. Wrestling was disappointing.. Anyhow Greco-Roman competition is very weak in Asia as compared to Denmark, Serbia, Armenia, Russia and Hungary.. Vinesh took a wrong choice to jump up to 53kgs... Weightlifting was quite good for Chanu even though we know only 1 hope.. Just hoping Chinese don't participate in 49kg category at Olympics.. Maybe 55 64 and - 87 are sure events for Chinese women.. Should be a straight fight between 49kg lifter and 87kg+ who won by 8kgs and 17kgs gap here respectively. Yet the choice will be clear only after world championship with world record holder Tatiana Kashirina in +87, still a favorite..
  4. have Leander Paes, Olympic bronze medallist from Atlanta in men's singles tennis. 1992 - 2016 A bit unlikely this time that he'll qualify for Tokyo 2020.
  5. Any chance for India in team eventing after Asiad silver to qualify?
  6. Chika Amalaha of Nigeria won gold in 55kg women's category. If I am not wrong she's the same athlete who won gold at cwg 2014 and was suspended for doping violation days later. Is it?
  7. Gagan Narang competed in 10m air rifle 50m prone and 50m 3P in 3 Olympics. In 2020 Anjum Moudgil should be in 10m rifle and 50m3P with mixed 10m rifle.
  8. So triple starters are possible in 2 individual events and 1 mixed team? Provides MQS reached.
  9. That was a good news from shooting.. Looks firm favorite to be in the mixed team with Anjum for 2020 along with the individual event..
  10. India win mixed team gold 10m air rifle beating China in gold medal match
  11. Mirabai Chanu did finish 4th yet 199kg is a good total going before the other tournaments..Now it's about which 4 lifters China chooses for Olympics. Deng Wei looks likely and so will be the 55 kg lifter and +89 kg.
  12. Any link for results
  13. LOL even the Pacific nations gets larger crowd for athletics championship in domestic level.
  14. India beat Nepal 3 - 1 in Olympic qualifying... Face Myanmar on 9th in virtual knockout to qualify for third round..

  17. Quick analysis of Rugby Sevens : Looks like Sri Lanka could finally qualify for a team sport in Olympics through Rugby Sevens as Japan is automatically qualified..... Indian men's Rugby is not in top 8 in Asia while women are 8th.. Positives: Girl's youth team which nearly qualified for youth Olympic Games 2018 last year.. Though we would always send hockey at the youth Games (1 sport per gender rule) finishing 4th was creditable in Asia.. Boys team looked no better...
  18. A year of Olympics Qualifying ahead..... Going to be very interesting....
  19. Male sportsman of the year : Lasha Talakhadze(Weightlifting) Female sportsman of the year: Tai Tzu Ying(Badminton) (Don't follow the winter games much, yet Tai was undoubtedly the best and most consistent and 2 Olympic golds in 2 sports can't replace it ) Team of the year: Netherlands Women's Hockey Team Unbeaten throughout the year along with the World Cup Win Special mention : Irish women's hockey team Junior sportsman of the year (under 20 years old at 1/1/2018): Alben Esow (Winning a silver and that too in cycling is not why I chose him, but because he is from the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar, where having someone in national team is only a big thing, facing political mistreatment (no state govt for the islands) ,lack of equipment and infrastructure etc ... Junior sportswoman of the year (under 20 years old at 1/1/2018): Manu Bhaker - Easily the best youth and junior athlete with CWG golds, senior record equalling performance at asiad, multiple junior and senior ISSF world cups . Greatest moment of the year: Indian table tennis team 1.CWG women's team before finals being told by commentators difficult to win a game but later going on to win gold 2.Asiad men's team winning bronze 3.Asiad mixed doubles bronze 4.Women's singles gold at CWG won by Manika Batra. Biggest idiot of the year:1.Steve Smith (cricket) for his famous ball tampering incident against South Africa.. 2.North Korean Weightlifting team coach
  20. For the hockey team... Nothing much to tell.. I was supposed to watch semis but they didn't give me a opportunity... So no Indian hockey matches watched this world cup All the best to The Netherlands for the finals...
  21. Sindhu manages to break her final jinx.... After 6 consecutive finals she finally manages to win the biggest world tour finals title this year.... Olympics, CWG, Asiad, BWF World Tour finals last year, the world championships in 2017 and 2018...Sweet victory but it's worth the wait...
  22. Finally Sindhu wins against Tai Tzu Ying after 6 consecutive loses against her... This was only the 4th lose if I am not wrong for Tai Tzu Ying this entire year to anyone...
  23. It was good to see her win.... All other prizes were swept by Chinese ..Maybe the ITTF understands the need of tapping the Indian markets, and how better than having someone doing so well this year and being an Indian... Batra deserves it
  24. Good start to world tour finals.. Sindhu beats Yamaguchi Sameer Verma loses to Momota (expected) Chinese shuttlers continue struggling against Intanon...Chen Yufei loses in other group and it's likely Sindhu faces Okuhara or Intanon in semis ...
  25. Back here after a long time as vacations have started...... International news :FIH Hockey World Cup - India vs Netherlands in quarters.... Watched the Dutch playing today and must admit they have good field play with long passes and arial balls but pretty poor Penalty Corner conversion.... France for me has been a suprise. I think they could be a potential gold medal favourites at Olympics in 6 years time as host considering the investment on hockey and other sports there currently ..Even Belgium were in same position at Beijing.. In 8 years they became Olympic silver medalist.... National news :Just saw some news about few athletics junior records good to see.. Khelo India Games 2019 are in Pune with 18 sports... No idea which are those 18...last time no tennis and tt was there... Also this time u 17 and u 21 2 categories are there.... So it should be a good multi sport event exposure..
