Peaty and Carlin relieved the team by winning the first two medals. Carlin was a bit of a surprise she could clock 2nd behind Ledecky while Peaty stunned us again with another world record in the final. Well done! Richard Kruse came close to a medal and finished 4th in individual foil.

Good prediction, but 6 4th place finishes over the first 3 days in Men's 400 IM, Women's 400 IM, rugby, gymnastics, fencing, 200 freestyle is a little worrying, but we are one medal up on London 2012!

I would have had medal-winning performances wrong though. I was more certain Guy would win a medal rather than Daley/Goodfellow, so yes, others have to step in and make up for other losses. GB usually starts slow but I doubt something like 6 golds in one day like that saturday in London will happen again. We need those solid performances in track cycling, rowing and sailing for 4th place again but most importantly, as many medals as possible or funding will be cut. So far the £347 million haven't been worth it but we will see in the end.  The main goal will be unachievable with recent chokes already, some boxers are out already too, Murray brothers in doubles, men's field hockey won't even qualify for the QF etc.

 

Litchfield's 4th place is a good thing actually, I never expected him to finish 4th. He did the best he could. The women's rugby sevens team created hopes thanks to the group stage win over Canada but in the end, they were the better team to begin with. A fencing medal would have done good for the future. So far, it's all about men's foil and an individual medal was probably "easier" to achieve than the team medal, in my opinion.

Instead of the women's rugby sevens team and James Guy it was the duo Daley/Goodfellow and Edward Ling winning the bronzes. The optimistic guess was definitely possible. At least the minimum of expectations has been satisfied but I'm really disappointed with James Guy.

Canoeing (Slalom) - Men's C-1

He and the others were pretty confident to skip the second qualification race, with the exception of Clarke in K-1 who needed that second run, so today is the day of truth. He will have to go through the semis first before the final. If he does what he did in the qualification, we can hope for a medal.

Since competing for GB I don't think she's won something big internationally. In her draw she will most likely face Bak , van Emden and Agbegnenou . I see the French as the favourite in her draw but she might very well struggle against van Emden. She should at least beat Bak.

I think you underestimated Daley & Goodfellow. Although they have only been together a year they have had regular top three finishes on the World Cup circuit and were one of the favourites for a medal. By contrast James Guy has been a bit below last year's  form throughout 2016, so was always going to find it difficult to repeat last year's individual performances.

 

So far GB stand at 1-3-2 compared with 0-2-2 after four days in London. We may not get 6 golds in a day like 2012 but then realistically we were never going to get 65 medals this time, but something closer to 50. This is still very much achievable so don't be too pessimistic so early on.

Maybe I did underestimate them but mainly because I expected more from Mexico, hence why I wouldn't have been disappointed with 4th place.

Guy on the other hand showed he can go sub 1:45 last night. Adding everything together (200m ind. + relay), only Haas (1:44,14) and Sun (winning time in 200m of 1:44,65) were faster. It could have been bronze so I stick with what I've said, he disappointed in the individual final.

 

You're right but I have hoped for medals from as many different sports as possible. In fencing, Kruse has that amazing opportunity. In the team, I don't know. They will face Russia in the QF and in my opinion, the women's rugby sevens team has a better shot than the men but let's see.

Of course we will have to wait for the flagship events (rowing, track cycling, sailing) but I don't think the many golds in track cycling and athletics will be repeated, which is why especially golds have to come from elsewhere too to compensate.

After two bronzes, now two silver up. Guy finally with a good performance, helping the team to get silver and O'Connor was really close too. Swimming looks fine, so far.

Unfortunately, the third contender I had in mind (Florence in canoe slalom) couldn't do anything in the final.

 

As Nickyc707 pointed out, it formally things look better than in London (1-3-2 [6] now as opposed to 0-2-2 [4] in 2012).
