Caused by free medals, falling out of sky. :finger:

Yeah I ain't happier than you with those things, but I do see how it has value to the Olympics :p

Although I don't have a problem with all of these events, it's just the splatterfests like especially women's slopestyle or women's big air where the biggest tricks that didn't end up in a fall last time were basically things like one turn or something :p

If that would be improved and we'd see some spectacular stuff, sure.

What? Maybe in America. Europeans don't pay attention to any of this.

Yeah! Europe has no clue about Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing that’s why they have 21 gold medals in Snowboard and 17 gold medals in Freestyle Skiing!

France shunned these sports so hard they hosted 3 Winter X Games Europe events in Tignes from 2010-2012. :p

I find it incredibly hard nowadays to judge whether or not posts like these are sarcastic or have some nonsense in them on purpose, or if it's actually reality

Someone could say "They're trying to add the 280 meters crawling-under-the-hurdles" and it wouldn't even sound off in between all the stuff that's actually real.

According the reporting I’ve read (from ITG) that is a very real proposal.

Europe sweeps modern pentathlon. Doesn't mean the Olympics need them more than they need the Olympics. ;)

In terms of audience, Europe is just negligable for all these sports. Classic events like alpine skiing and cross-country skiing pull incomparably more interest, from fans and sponsors alike.

Skateboarding is very popular in US, Brazil, Australia, and Japan. We’ve also seen NOCs like Indonesia, Philippines, and Puerto Rico earn medals in the sport at major multi-sports games. Sky Brown is one of the most prominent female skaters at the moment and she’s British. Candy Jacobs out of the Netherlands has been a mainstay on the scene for a while now.

Surfing is also enjoys a wide global audience. French surfers have competed in top tier events in the sports. France has also played host to some of those top tier events. Portugal is known for it’s epic surf spots.

Surfing and Skateboarding could easily exist outside the Olympics, and have for a long time. In terms of global popularity and audience, there aren’t many sports who could be justified inclusion over them.

And I can pretty much guarantee not even 2% of Dutch sports fans (so not Dutch people, but actual sports fans) have even heard of her at all, just to give a sense of the interest in sports like these even when there's a decent competitor.

Korfball is exteremely popular in the Netherlands, Belgium, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Germany and even China! Portugal and GB have impressive teams as well. Not to forget Luxembourg and the ever present - Suriname.

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
