Men's Ice Hockey IIHF Under 18 World Championship 2018

Only a couple of hours remaining now before the first face-off of the 2018 Under 18 Top Division World Championship in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, Russia.

 

Here the schedule of Day 1

Thursday April 19th, 2018 -

Preliminary Round

Day 1 Schedule (GMT +5)

 

 

Group A

(in Chelyabinsk)

*Tournament Format: The 10 teams are divided into two, five-team groups A and B in the Preliminary Round.

After a single round-robin series in each group, the top four teams from each group advance to the Playoff Round (Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Bronze Medal Match, Final)

 

while the fifth-placed team in each group moves to the Relegation Round. (Best of 3 Matches relegation series, the Losing team will be relegated to the next years Men´s Under 20 Division I Group A where they will replace Latvia, promoted Nation from this years U18 Div I A tournament held last week in Riga, Latvia)

 

The top four placed teams from the Preliminary will play a cross-over Quarterfinal game: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B and 2B vs. 3A. The winner of each Quarterfinal moves onto the Semi-Finals.

The winner of each Semi-Final game will move onto the Gold Medal Game, while the losers will play in the Bronze Medal Game.

The quarter-final losers will be ranked 5th to 8th according to 1. their position in the group, 2. their preliminary-round record (1. points, 2. goal difference, 3. goals scored).

 

Nations ranked from 1st to 9th will stay in top division also for the next edition 2019.

*Ukraine, Austria, Hungary and Japan are still fighting for the promotion, with Ukraine in the best position.

**Ukraine will qualify - if they win in Regulation Time against the already relegated Romania, or if they win after OT/GWS over Romania and the match Austria-Japan will not end in Regulation Time.

***Austria will qualify - if they win in regulation time against Hungary and Ukraine will not beat Romania in Regulation Time, or if they win after OT/GWS and Ukraine will lose to Romania (No matter if in RT or after OT/GWS).

****Japan will qualify - if they win against Italy and Ukraine and Austria will lose their respective matches, or if they win over Italy after OT/GWS but Hungary must defeat Austria and Ukraine can not ear more than one point in the match with Romania.

*****Hungary will qualify - if they win against Austria on Regulation Time and Ukraine and Japan both will lose their games (Ukraine in Regulation Time)

******Romania is already assured to finish last and will be relegated, Italy is already assured to finish in 5th place.
